Cow Vigilantes End Up Mistaking Faridabad Student

0

On August 23, Aryan Mishra, a Class 12 student, was returning home with four others in a Duster SUV in Faridabad, Haryana, after having snacks. On an isolated stretch near Gadpuri on the Delhi-Agra National Highway, a group of vigilantes flagged down their vehicle. The vigilantes were patrolling the area based on a “tip-off” about suspected cow smugglers in SUVs. When the driver of the Duster refused to stop, the vigilantes pursued them, resulting in a high-speed chase that lasted around 50 kilometers. The chase ended with the vigilantes fatally shooting Mishra.

Police have arrested four individuals—Anil Kaushik, Varun Kumar, Krishan Singh, and Adesh Singh—who are allegedly linked to a “cow protection group,” in connection with the murder. “They [the vigilantes] saw the Duster SUV on the isolated stretch and began chasing it after signaling to the driver [Harshit Singh] to stop,” said Assistant Police Commissioner (Crime) Aman Yadav.

According to Yadav, Harshit Singh, who was driving, was involved in an ongoing feud and was accompanied by another person named Sanki. They misunderstood the situation. Sanki had been charged with attempted murder on August 14. “Harshit feared they were being pursued due to the feud, while Sanki believed they were plainclothes police officers trying to arrest him. This caused Harshit Singh to speed up, initiating the chase,” Yadav explained.

Yadav also confirmed that the weapon and the vehicle used in the murder have been recovered. “The incident occurred when the suspects allegedly mistook Mishra and his companions for cattle smugglers, leading to a high-speed chase on the highway during which they opened fire on the vehicle.”

The suspects were identified from CCTV footage taken at the Gadpuri toll plaza, which captured them chasing Mishra’s car. Police said a preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects had received information from an informant about cattle smugglers driving Duster and Fortuner vehicles in the area, allegedly transporting animals using containers. The suspects then started searching for the vehicles, spotted the Duster at Patel Chowk, and tried to stop it.

Mishra’s murder occurred just days before another violent incident in Haryana, where seven individuals, including two juveniles, beat a migrant worker from West Bengal to death in Charkhi Dadri’s Badhra over suspicions that he had eaten beef.

Jennifer Meyer Reveals Engagement to Billionaire

0

Tobey Maguire’s ex-wife, Jennifer Meyer, is engaged to billionaire Geoffrey Ogunlesi. Meyer announced her engagement on Instagram on Saturday, sharing a photo of herself wearing a large diamond ring on her left hand. The caption read, “YES!!!” The photo suggested the proposal took place at a private dinner party, with the couple surrounded by vases of white roses and wine bottles lining the walls. Geoffrey is seen with his arms wrapped around Meyer after proposing.

Who is Geoffrey Ogunlesi?

Geoffrey Ogunlesi is the son of Nigerian billionaire Adebayo Ogunlesi, a lawyer and investment banker who founded Global Infrastructure Partners, a private equity firm that owns London Gatwick Airport. Adebayo’s net worth was estimated at $1.7 billion by Forbes as of September 2024. Geoffrey is the CEO and founder of the Ogunlesii Group, an entertainment and music company he established in 2022. His company represents several successful artists, including Young Thug and Myles Frost of the MJ Musical. Before starting his company, Geoffrey worked as an A&R consultant at Warner Music Group and later at 300 Entertainment, according to Page Six. He graduated from Amherst College, a private liberal arts school in Massachusetts, where he studied from 2008 to 2012.

Jennifer Meyer’s Divorce from Tobey Maguire

Meyer and Geoffrey were first romantically linked in the summer of 2023, making their red carpet debut in November of that year. Previously, Meyer, a jewelry designer, was married to “Spider-Man” actor Tobey Maguire in 2007. They separated in 2016 but remained on good terms. The former couple has two children together: a daughter, Ruby, 17, and a son, Otis, 15. In 2022, Meyer spoke about her divorce from Maguire on “The World’s First Podcast” hosted by Erin Foster. She shared, “I was able to make a conscious decision about how this breakup was going to go and trust that the universe had our back as a couple for our children. It’s been the most beautiful experience of my life, having this beautiful breakup.” She added, “I would literally do anything in the world for Tobey. He is my brother. I love him to death, and we have the most beautiful family.”

NASA Talks About ‘Strange Noise’ coming from Boeing Starliner

0

NASA has addressed the “strange noise” coming from the malfunctioning Boeing Starliner. Butch Wilmore, who, along with Sunita Williams, has been stranded in space, reported hearing a mysterious sound from a speaker inside the spacecraft. On Saturday, Wilmore contacted Mission Control at Johnson Space Center in Houston to report the issue. The audio of this exchange, which has since gone viral, was first recorded and shared by meteorologist Rob Dale.

NASA Speaks Out on Unexplained Noise from Starliner

As concerns grew over the noise coming from the capsule, NASA clarified that the feedback is a “common” occurrence that poses no risk to the crew or the Starliner itself.

“A pulsing sound from a speaker in Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft, heard by NASA astronaut Butch Wilmore aboard the International Space Station, has ceased,” NASA stated in a release on Monday, as reported by USA Today. The agency further explained that the capsule is still on track for an unmanned return to Earth.

“The feedback from the speaker was due to an audio configuration between the space station and Starliner. The space station’s audio system is complex, allowing multiple spacecraft and modules to connect, and it is not uncommon to experience noise and feedback,” the statement elaborated.

“The crew is instructed to inform mission control if they hear any sounds originating from the communication system. The speaker feedback reported by Wilmore has no technical impact on the crew, Starliner, or station operations, including Starliner’s uncrewed undocking from the station, which is scheduled no earlier than Friday, September 6,” the statement added.

While the Boeing Starliner is scheduled to return to Earth this week, the two veteran astronauts, Wilmore and Williams, will have to wait longer for their return. Due to the risks associated with the faulty capsule, NASA recently announced that both astronauts are expected to return via SpaceX’s Crew-9 mission in February 2025.

ICIC Denies Paying Salary to SEBI Chief After Retirement

0

Following allegations from the Congress party, ICICI Bank clarified on Monday that neither it nor its group companies have paid any salary or granted Employee Stock Ownership Plans (ESOPs) to SEBI chief Madhabi Puri Buch after her retirement, apart from her retirement benefits.

“During her tenure with the ICICI Group, she received compensation in the form of salary, retirement benefits, bonuses, and ESOPs, in accordance with applicable policies,” the bank stated.

The bank also noted that under the rules in effect at the time of her ESOP grant, employees, including retirees, had the option to exercise their ESOPs at any time up to 10 years from the vesting date.

“According to Income Tax rules, the difference between the market price of the stock on the exercise date and the allotment price is considered perquisite income and is reported in Part B of the Form 16 of employees, including retired employees. The Bank is required to deduct perquisite tax on this income. Additionally, Form 16 includes the payments made towards the retirement benefits of former employees,” the statement further added.

On Monday, the Congress party accused Buch of holding an office of profit at ICICI Bank and receiving ₹16.8 crore in substantial benefits from the bank and its subsidiaries.

At a press conference in Delhi, Congress leader Pawan Khera claimed that between 2017 and 2024, Buch received ₹12.63 crore from ICICI Bank, ₹22.41 lakh from ICICI Prudential, ₹2.84 crore from ESOPs, and ₹1.10 crore in Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) payments from ICICI, in addition to her SEBI salary, which totaled ₹3.3 crore.

Khera questioned the ethics of a regulatory authority’s head receiving income from an entity it regulates, stating, “Anyone with a little shame would not wait to resign after this exposure.”

Madhabi Puri Buch opted for superannuation from the ICICI Group, effective October 31, 2013. Recently, U.S.-based short-seller Hindenburg Research alleged a conflict of interest involving Buch and Blackstone, as her husband Dhaval Buch was appointed as an advisor to the global asset management company—a significant investor in Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs).

However, SEBI dismissed Hindenburg’s claims, stating that it has consistently emphasized the role of REITs, SME REITs, InvITs, Municipal Bonds, and other instruments to advance the Indian securities market.

Cabinet Clears Big Budget Plans For Digital Agri Push

0

The Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved seven agricultural initiatives on Monday with a budget of ₹13,966 crore. These initiatives focus on building climate resilience and promoting sustainable farming practices, including the use of public-funded digital infrastructure and research on emerging challenges in the agricultural sector.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw provided details on these Cabinet decisions during a press briefing in Delhi on Monday.

As part of the Digital Agriculture Mission, which has a budget of ₹2,187 crore, the government plans to develop a mobile-based platform for farmers, similar to the Unified Payments Interface (UPI), according to Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting.

This digital platform will be created using the agri stack, a comprehensive farmers’ database developed with data from the PM-KISAN cash-transfer program, which includes bank-verified records of landholdings for nearly 100 million farmers. Through the PM-KISAN program, every farming household receives ₹6,000 annually, distributed in three instalments of ₹2,000 every four months.

The agri stack, established during Modi’s previous administration, is continually updated to build a digital infrastructure for efficient service delivery. The newly approved unified farmer service platform aims to “digitize agricultural service delivery by public and private sectors,” an official stated.

The platform will provide a variety of information, including farmer registries, land maps, weather forecasts, and crop yield data for farm insurance, aiding agricultural companies and lenders in providing quicker services, Vaishnaw noted.

“For instance, in pilot programs where this platform was tested, the entire process from loan application to disbursal took only about 40 minutes,” Vaishnaw added. Due to readily available digital land records and Aadhaar-based identification in the agri stack, the process for obtaining farm credit is as swift as applying for digital consumer loans.

The platform will enable farmers to connect with buyers and sellers, access loans from scheduled banks, view their soil profiles, and estimate yields, enhancing efficiency and utility, according to a Cabinet statement. The development of the agri stack was first reported by HT on March 9, 2021, when it was in an experimental phase.

In line with its sustainable agriculture objectives, the Cabinet also approved a ₹3,979 crore program to prepare farmers and rural communities for climate change. Part of this funding will go towards increasing the productivity of pulses and oilseeds and managing plant genetics. India aims to eliminate its reliance on costly pulse imports by 2027, a key goal for the agricultural sector.

During the last financial year ending in March, pulse imports rose by 84% year-on-year to 4.65 million tonnes, the highest in six years. In value terms, spending on these imports increased by 93% to $3.75 billion, with major suppliers including Canada, Australia, Myanmar, Mozambique, Tanzania, Sudan, and Malawi.

Extreme weather conditions linked to climate change have adversely affected agricultural output in Asia’s third-largest economy, impacting crops like wheat and driving up prices. According to a recent RBI analysis, a series of “climate-related extreme weather” events and supply shocks have made high food inflation “endemic” since the latter half of 2019.

To address the impacts of climate change, the government aims to bolster agricultural research and education through a ₹2,291 crore program approved by the Cabinet. This initiative, led by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), will update the agricultural curriculum in universities to better prepare students and researchers for challenges such as climate shocks, in accordance with the National Education Policy 2020.

Additionally, the Cabinet sanctioned a ₹1,702 crore program to enhance livestock genetics. The livestock sector contributes 30% of agriculture’s gross value added (GVA), a growth measure excluding net taxes. Data shows that, on average, farmers earn more from livestock than from crops alone.

The livestock initiative will focus on managing animal diseases, improving nutrition, and enhancing veterinary education.

The Cabinet also allocated ₹800 crore for a sustainable horticulture scheme to boost productivity in fruits, vegetables, mushrooms, and spices, which are significant export commodities. Further funding of ₹1,202 crore and ₹115 crore was approved for modernizing Krishi Vigyan Kendras, which are farm resource centers, and for the efficient use of natural resources.

“Climate adaptation has become one of the biggest challenges for Indian agriculture. Adaptation technologies need to be developed swiftly. It can’t take years. Any mitigation efforts should involve collaboration with global agencies to expedite the process,” said TK Mani, a former faculty member at Tamil Nadu Agricultural University.

Did Telegram’s CEO Get Plastic Surgery? Rumors Surface

0

Old photos of Pavel Durov have recently resurfaced online, leading to speculation that the Telegram CEO may have undergone plastic surgery to change his appearance. Durov was recently arrested in France on suspicion of being complicit in operating an online platform that facilitates illicit activities, including child sex abuse imagery, drug trafficking, and fraud.

Pavel Durov, a 39-year-old entrepreneur born in Russia, is the billionaire founder and CEO of the messaging app Telegram, which he launched in 2013 to prioritize user privacy with end-to-end encryption.

Forbes estimates Durov’s net worth to be $15.5 billion. The Dubai-based billionaire was detained in Paris just over a week ago.

Durov has been active on Instagram since 2011, where recent photos show him with a full head of hair and a toned physique. In many of these images taken around the world, the 39-year-old billionaire appears shirtless.

These recent photos contrast sharply with older ones, where Durov appears to have a receding hairline. After an old photo was posted online alongside a newer one, rumors have been circulating about whether Durov has had plastic surgery and a hair transplant.

“Pavel Durov (Telegram CEO) before his hair transplant and plastic surgery,” reads a post shared by a popular account on X. The side-by-side comparison was also shared on Reddit, sparking discussions about whether his appearance changes are natural or the result of cosmetic procedures.

“This isn’t a hair transplant. His hair is too thick and full for such a drastic transformation from a transplant. It’s more likely he’s wearing a hair system (wig),” one Reddit comment reads.

“There’s speculation it’s a hair system, not a transplant, because his hair loss was quite advanced in the earlier photo, and the resulting hair from a transplant never looks as full as his,” another user wrote.

“This is well-executed surgery,” another commenter speculated.

“I honestly think many of the facial ‘changes’ are simply due to better angles and lighting in the second photo,” one Reddit user opined, skeptical of the surgery claims.

Autopsies of Hamas Hostages Reveals Shocking Details

0

Autopsies of the six Hamas hostages found in a tunnel in Rafah on the afternoon of August 31 have revealed gruesome details. The Health Ministry confirmed that the hostages were killed 48 to 72 hours before the autopsies, indicating their deaths occurred between Thursday and Friday morning.

According to The Times of Israel, the Abu Kabir Forensic Institute found that all six hostages were shot multiple times at close range. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated that Hamas terrorists executed the hostages shortly before their bodies were discovered by Israeli troops.

The six hostages killed were Hersh Goldberg-Polin, Eden Yerushalmi, Ori Danino, Alex Lobanov, Carmel Gat, and Almog Sarusi. IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi visited the site where the bodies were found to conduct an assessment, accompanied by the head of the IDF Southern Command, Maj. Gen. Yaron Finkelman, and hostage negotiator Maj. Gen. (res.) Nitzan Alon.

Channel 12 reported that security officials suspect Hamas may have killed the hostages out of fear that a recently rescued hostage might reveal information about the location of other hostages. Last week, IDF special forces rescued 52-year-old Farhan al-Qadi.

IDF Spokesman Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari described the hostages as having been “brutally murdered” by Hamas. He said, “Based on initial assessments… they were brutally murdered by Hamas terrorists shortly before we reached them. They were taken alive on the morning of October 7 by the Hamas terror group.” He added that their bodies were found in a tunnel during the fighting in Rafah, approximately a kilometer from where Farhan al-Qadi was rescued a few days earlier.

The IDF noted that they had a general idea of where the six hostages were being held but did not know the exact location. “Since finding Farhan, troops were instructed to operate with extra caution, knowing there could be more hostages in the area. However, we did not have precise information on the hostages’ exact location,” Hagari explained.

After the hostages were found dead, their bodies were reportedly transported from Gaza to Israel overnight for identification. Following the news of their deaths, mass protests erupted across Israel, with demonstrators urging the government to negotiate the release of the remaining hostages.

RSS Stands in Favour of Caste Census

0

The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) on Monday expressed support for the caste census, emphasizing that it should be approached with seriousness and not merely for electoral or political purposes.

Commenting on the matter, RSS chief spokesperson Sunil Ambekar stated, “In our Hindu society, caste and caste relations are sensitive issues. It is certainly an important matter for our national unity and integrity. It should be addressed with seriousness, not based on electoral practices or political motives.”

Ambekar further explained, “The RSS believes that for all welfare activities, especially when focusing on a specific community or caste that needs special attention, the government requires accurate data.” He added that this is a well-established practice that can be implemented again.

Why is Congress advocating for a caste census?

The Congress party has been vocal about the need for a caste census, promising it in its Lok Sabha election manifesto. The party has pledged to conduct a nationwide socio-economic and caste census to enumerate the castes, sub-castes, and their socio-economic conditions. Congress has also promised to push for a constitutional amendment to raise the 50 percent cap on reservations for Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Other Backward Classes (OBC).

Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, has been advocating for a caste census, arguing that 90 percent of India’s population is excluded from the current system. Recently, a ‘Mood of the Nation’ (MOTN) survey conducted by CVoter for India Today magazine showed that 74 percent of respondents now support a caste census, a significant increase from February 2024, when only 59 percent were in favor.

Referring to the survey, Gandhi said, “The message from India is clear – soon, 90 percent of Indians will support and demand a caste census. Implement this demand now, or the next prime minister will.” Rahul Gandhi began calling for a nationwide caste census in the lead-up to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, and with improved numbers in Lok Sabha, he has continued to push for it.

Bhuvan Bham Talks About Influencers Taking Over Jobs

0

Bhuvan Bam recently surpassed 5 billion views on his YouTube channel, and despite not having released new content for the past nine months, the content creator turned actor is pleased that his videos are still being watched. “It’s an incredible feeling. Who could have imagined reaching such a huge milestone? It took seven to eight years to get here, and now it feels like, ‘Yes, I’ve done something special,'” he says.

While he is currently focused on his acting and writing career, the 30-year-old admits he misses creating content. “Of course, I miss it every day. Every day I think about writing something and posting it, but my responsibilities have grown. I have so many topics that I’ve partially written episodes about, but to finish them, I would need to pause all other work and concentrate solely on this. Unfortunately, I don’t have that luxury right now.”

Recently, actors Aahana S Kumra and Abhishek Banerjee voiced concerns about influencers taking over acting roles and impacting professional actors. Given Bhuvan’s background in online content, how does he view the issue? “I completely understand their perspective because the ‘influencer culture’ has become dominant. Producers and OTT platforms often favor influencers, casting people based on their follower counts. So, those who are speaking out have a point to some extent because our format, platform, and approach to content are different,” he explains.

Bhuvan further adds, “I often say that in our country, donkeys and horses are running together, and the donkeys are slightly ahead. This mindset exists in every industry. Even now, people introduce me as ‘he’s from YouTube,’ and you can sense the bias. Gaining acceptance in this industry is very challenging. Some people are finding work, while others, who aren’t, are sticking to digital content. Ultimately, the goal for everyone is to land an OTT project or a movie. The struggle is to find work because perceptions are hard to change.”

Jammu Army Base Gets Attacked; 1 Army Jawan Injured

0

An army jawan was injured when terrorists fired from a distance near the Sunjawan military camp, the largest army base in Jammu, on Monday morning. Defence spokesperson Lt Col Suneel Bartwal stated that the gunfire occurred between 10 and 10:30 am.

The military camp has since been sealed off, and a search operation is underway.

Previously, in February 2018, the Sunjawan military camp was attacked by Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorists, resulting in the deaths of six soldiers, a civilian, and three terrorists. Approximately 20 others, including both soldiers and civilians, were injured in that attack.

This recent incident near the army base follows the killing of three terrorists by security forces in two separate encounters in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district. Two terrorists were killed in the Machhal area, and another was killed in the Tangdhar sector.

In another development, an encounter occurred in Rajouri district, Jammu, after security forces launched a search operation to find terrorists hiding in the Lathi area. This operation began at 9:30 pm in the vicinity of Kheri Mohra Lathi and Danthal.

These infiltration attempts are taking place as Jammu and Kashmir prepare for upcoming assembly elections, with nominations for the first phase already submitted. The elections will be conducted in three phases on September 18, September 25, and October 1, with the results announced on October 4, according to the Election Commission of India.

This year, Jammu and Kashmir have seen numerous encounters, prompting government and military leaders to reassess the security situation in the region. At least five security personnel and seven civilians have been killed in terror attacks in Kashmir, while 14 security personnel and 11 civilians have died in separate extremist attacks in Jammu.
