Delhi will introduce its inaugural hot air balloon rides on November 29 at the Delhi Development Authority’s Baansera Park on the Yamuna riverfront, following successful trial runs of the recreational service.

Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena announced the development on X, stating the service operated by qualified professionals meets “the highest standards of safety parameters.” He characterized the initiative as advancing Delhi’s transformation into a more vibrant city with enhanced recreational amenities and world-class infrastructure.

Expansion Plans

Beginning Saturday, residents can experience tethered balloon rides at Baansera Park. Within days, the service will expand to three additional DDA locations: Asita riverfront, Yamuna Sports Complex, and Commonwealth Games Village Sports Complex. The initiative forms part of a broader strategy to activate the Yamuna riverbank and public spaces with adventure and leisure activities.

Operational Details

Each balloon ride is priced at Rs 3,000 per person for 15-20 minutes of aerial experience. Operators will conduct two daily slots—morning and evening—subject to weather conditions. Capacity limits each basket to approximately four people per trip.

The balloons operate on a tethered system, remaining anchored to the ground while ascending, providing controlled, safe panoramic views of the riverfront and cityscape. This configuration differs from free-flying hot air balloons, prioritizing safety through ground anchoring.

Safety Standards

The DDA has appointed a certified operator with prior ballooning and aviation recreation experience. The professional team will handle launch operations, pilot balloons, and conduct pre-ascent safety checks. Officials confirmed the activity adheres to all required aviation and operational safety norms.

Recreational Development

The Lieutenant Governor expressed expectations that the service will strengthen Delhi’s recreational landscape while offering residents novel perspectives on the city’s evolving riverfront development. The initiative represents part of ongoing efforts to repurpose and activate the Yamuna riverbank area, which has historically been underutilized for public recreation.

The tethered balloon rides mark Delhi’s entry into aerial tourism activities, joining other Indian cities that have introduced similar recreational offerings. The service aims to attract both residents and tourists seeking unique urban experiences while contributing to the riverfront area’s activation as a leisure destination.

Success of the initial phase may influence potential expansion to additional Delhi locations.

Director Anil Sharma has confirmed the cancellation of the highly anticipated sequel to the 2007 film Apne following the death of veteran actor Dharmendra, stating the project cannot proceed without the legendary star who was central to the original film’s success.

Speaking to Hindustan Times, Sharma explained his decision to halt the sequel despite completed preparations. “Apne to apno ke bina nahi ho sakti. Without Dharamji, it’s impossible to make the sequel. Everything was on track, and the script was ready, but he left us. Some dreams remain unfulfilled. Without him, it’s not possible,” the director stated.

Apne’ Production Status

The sequel was in advanced planning stages with a completed script ready for production. Sharma emphasized that all aspects of the project were prepared before Dharmendra’s passing led to the decision to abandon development entirely. The cancellation reflects both the emotional impact of the loss and Dharmendra’s irreplaceable role in the franchise.

Longstanding Collaboration

Sharma and Dharmendra maintained a decades-long professional relationship spanning multiple films. The director frequently described the actor as essential to his creative vision, making this loss particularly significant both professionally and personally. Their collaboration on the original Apne represented one of several successful projects together.

Original Film’s Legacy

he 2007 Apne featured Dharmendra alongside his sons Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol in lead roles, with Kirron Kher, Shilpa Shetty, and Katrina Kaif in supporting roles. The film centered on a father determined to see his sons become boxing champions, fulfilling the dream he couldn’t achieve himself. After the younger son’s injury in the ring, the elder son decides to realize his father’s aspirations.

The film resonated with audiences through its portrayal of family bonds and generational relationships, establishing it as a significant entry in Dharmendra’s filmography.

Industry Impact

The cancellation marks the end of plans to continue the story that connected with viewers through its exploration of familial dedication and sacrifice. Sharma’s decision underscores Dharmendra’s unique contribution to Indian cinema and the deep respect held for his legacy within the film industry.

The announcement reflects how certain creative visions remain tied to specific performers whose presence becomes inseparable from the project’s identity.

Donald Trump Jr conducted a week-long, three-city tour of India combining heritage site visits, high-profile hospitality, and conservation project inspections that generated significant social media attention.

The American businessman and son of US President Donald Trump began his trip Thursday with a tour of the Taj Mahal in Agra, arriving with a delegation of 126 special guests from 40 countries. He spent nearly an hour inside the monument complex under elaborate security arrangements.

Donald Trump Jr’s Taj Mahal Visit

Officials reported Donald Trump Jr conducted an extended photo session, including at the famous Diana bench, while exploring the iconic structure. A senior Archaeological Survey of India official noted he asked “numerous, pointed questions” about the Taj Mahal’s construction and symbolism, describing it to aides as “one of the world’s great wonders” before departing for Gujarat.

Conservation Project Tour

Following his arrival in Jamnagar, the Ambani family hosted Donald Trump Jr for private engagements, beginning with Vantara, Reliance’s animal rescue and rehabilitation project led by Anant Ambani. He toured enclosures and habitat zones housing elephants and big cats.

Trump Jr praised the conservation initiative’s scope in a video recorded with Ambani, calling the project “an incredible experience.”

High-Profile Itinerary

The tour represents a blend of cultural tourism, business networking, and environmental conservation activities across multiple Indian cities. The delegation’s size—126 guests from 40 countries—indicates the visit’s significance beyond personal tourism.

The visit occurred amid ongoing business and diplomatic relationships between the Trump family’s commercial interests and Indian counterparts, though officials characterized the trip as focused on cultural and conservation aspects rather than formal political or business negotiations.

Security arrangements for the visits reflected protocols typically reserved for high-profile international guests, particularly at heritage sites like the Taj Mahal where crowd management and protection measures require coordination with archaeological and law enforcement authorities.

The social media attention surrounding the visit highlights continued public interest in Trump family activities internationally, particularly in markets where the Trump Organization maintains business relationships or explores potential opportunities.

Trump Jr’s engagement with conservation projects like Vantara demonstrates alignment between high-profile visitors and India’s environmental initiatives, showcasing private sector conservation efforts to international audiences.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared Tuesday that India seeks peace but will never compromise on border security or national interests, while praising recent military strikes conducted in response to the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people.

“We want peace, but we do not compromise on the security of our borders,” PM Modi stated during the state-level commemoration of the 350th Shaheedi Diwas (martyrdom day) of Guru Tegh Bahadur, the ninth Sikh Guru.

Operation Sindoor Reference

The Prime Minister commended the recently launched Operation Sindoor, describing the retaliatory strikes following the Pahalgam attack as demonstrating India’s resolve. He asserted that “the whole world has witnessed that the new India neither fears, nor stops, nor bows before terrorism,” emphasizing the country’s approach of moving forward “with full strength, courage, and clarity.”

Spiritual Heritage Connections

PM Modi highlighted his government’s efforts to strengthen connections to Sikh heritage, noting the recent arrival of three original forms of the Guru Granth Sahib from Afghanistan as “a moment of pride for every Indian.” He described consistent governmental work to reinforce spiritual and cultural links to Sikh traditions.

Guru’s Social Impact

The Prime Minister recalled Guru Tegh Bahadur’s journey from Anandpur Sahib, noting how he connected numerous villages through Sangat (congregation), expanding devotion while transforming social conduct. Modi observed that communities along the Guru’s path abandoned intoxicant cultivation and dedicated themselves to spiritual pursuits.

Contemporary Social Message

Drawing parallels to current challenges, Modi emphasized that following Guru Maharaj’s teachings, society, families, and youth could wage decisive battles against addiction, potentially eradicating the problem at its roots.

“The teachings of Shri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib should become the foundation of peace in our conduct, balance in our policies, and trust in our society,” he stated, describing this as the occasion’s essence.

PM Modi highlighted that nationwide observations of Guru Tegh Bahadur’s martyrdom day reflect how the Guru

Medical Expert Debunks 4 Common Myths About Ghee and Cholesterol

0
Ghee
Ghee

Ghee has faced decades of nutritional scrutiny based on misconceptions about saturated fats and cholesterol, but a Harvard-trained specialist argues much of the concern stems from misunderstanding how this traditional Indian staple functions in the body.

Dr. Akanksha Pandey, an integrative health specialist, told the media that ghee’s negative reputation largely originated from the 1950s diet-heart hypothesis developed by scientists like Ancel Keys. This hypothesis, based on observational studies rather than rigorous controlled trials, suggested direct links between dietary saturated fat, elevated blood cholesterol, and heart disease risk.

Ghee Saturated Fat Misconceptions

While ghee contains 60-65% saturated fat by weight, Pandey emphasizes composition matters. It is rich in short-chain fatty acids, particularly butyric acid, which metabolize differently from long-chain saturated fats in processed foods. “A teaspoon of ghee does not clog arteries. The real issue is oxidised LDL, stress, sugar and poor digestion. Small amounts of ghee help bile flow, which improves fat breakdown,” she stated.

Research in The Journal of Nutritional Biochemistry (2010) suggests ghee’s saturated fat profile, consumed moderately within traditional diets, shows neutral or beneficial effects on lipid profiles, unlike trans fats and processed oils.

Ghee – Processing and Quality Differences

Pandey distinguishes between homemade and commercial varieties: “Slow-cooked homemade ghee retains more of the beneficial short-chain fats and antioxidants. Many commercial ghee products are overheated during production, which changes their properties.”

Ghee made by simmering butter removes lactose and casein, making it suitable for many with dairy sensitivities. It contains conjugated linoleic acid and fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K, unlike margarine and processed butters.

Ghee – Dietary Cholesterol Reality

Regarding dietary cholesterol concerns, Pandey notes most people don’t need elimination: “A tiny amount with warm food can actually help the body process fats better. Only those with very high triglycerides or extremely sluggish digestion should restrict it.”

Ghee – Seasonal and Health Considerations

Addressing seasonal restrictions, Pandey clarifies: “Ghee is seasonal in quantity, not in use. In summer, in controlled doses, ghee supports digestion when eaten with freshly cooked meals.”

For acne concerns, she adds: “Acne is usually driven by sugar, hormones and stress. A teaspoon of ghee supports vitamin absorption and skin repair. Issues only arise when people overuse it.”

Experts recommend 1-2 teaspoons daily for healthy individuals, emphasizing quality grass-fed sources and medical consultation for those with existing cholesterol or heart conditions.

‘Indisputable Reality’: India Rejects China’s Arunachal Stand in Wake of Woman’s Detention in Shanghai

0

The Ministry of External Affairs released a statement through spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal addressing the comments made by China’s foreign ministry about the treatment of an Indian traveller from Arunachal Pradesh. The MEA highlighted that the passenger, who held a valid Indian passport, was merely transiting through Shanghai International Airport on her way to Japan when she was subjected to an unjustified ordeal.

The traveller, Pema Wangjom Thongdok, is an Indian citizen based in the United Kingdom. She had taken a flight from London to Japan on November 21 and was scheduled to spend three hours in transit at Shanghai. According to her account, the situation quickly became distressing when immigration officials questioned her passport, claiming it was “invalid” because her birthplace was listed as Arunachal Pradesh.

Responding to her allegations, Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning insisted that the passenger was not forced into any coercive situation and denied that she faced detention or harassment. Mao said that the border authorities acted strictly in line with Chinese regulations and that her rights were “fully protected.”

The MEA strongly rejected this version, reiterating that Arunachal Pradesh is an unquestionable and permanent part of India. It emphasized that no statements from Beijing can change this fundamental fact. The ministry also stated that the matter of Thongdok’s treatment has already been raised with China, noting that Chinese officials have yet to offer a satisfactory explanation for their conduct.

According to the MEA, the actions taken by Chinese authorities run counter to international air travel conventions, as well as China’s own rules that allow travellers from any country to transit visa free for up to twenty four hours. Indian officials issued a formal protest to Chinese authorities in both Beijing and New Delhi on the day the incident occurred. The Indian consulate in Shanghai also intervened to support the stranded passenger, who was reportedly held for reasons described by officials as completely baseless, since residents of Arunachal Pradesh are full Indian citizens with the same passport rights as any other citizen.

Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Pema Khandu voiced his own criticism on Tuesday, expressing shock and outrage over the manner in which Thongdok was treated. He said the humiliating and racially charged behaviour she faced from Chinese immigration officials was unacceptable. Khandu reaffirmed that Arunachal Pradesh has always been, and will always remain, an integral part of India, and described any claims suggesting otherwise as unfounded and insulting.

Volcanic Ash Plumes Under Watch as Centre States There Is ‘No Cause for Concern’

Air travel across India faced major disruption after a volcanic eruption in Ethiopia sent massive ash clouds drifting across several countries and eventually into Indian airspace. The impact was felt nationwide as many flights were cancelled or forced to operate with delays.

The civil aviation ministry said it was coordinating closely with air traffic control, the India Meteorological Department, airlines, and global aviation bodies to manage the situation and minimize inconvenience to passengers. Officials emphasized that uninterrupted communication and monitoring were underway at all levels.

After the volcano erupted, the ash plume moved over Yemen, Oman and the Arabian Sea before reaching Gujarat and Rajasthan on Monday evening. Around midnight it edged toward Delhi, and throughout Tuesday it continued spreading across eastern and northeastern regions of the country.

The ministry, in a post on X, stated that it was keeping a close watch on the developments and would keep travelers informed with regular updates. It added that flight operations across India were still functioning smoothly, with the Airports Authority of India issuing the necessary advisories and alerting pilots and airlines as required. Officials reassured the public that there was no immediate reason to worry.

According to the IMD, the volcanic ash cloud is passing through the upper troposphere and is gradually moving toward China. The agency clarified that the cloud has no effect on India’s local weather or ground-level air quality and that the main influence is on aviation routes operating at higher altitudes. The IMD expects the plume to exit Indian airspace completely by Tuesday evening.

Flightradar24 has been mapping the movement of the ash cloud as well, noting that it is currently positioned over northern India and advancing quickly toward Chinese territory.

Narottam Sahoo, an advisor to the Gujarat Council on Science and Technology, said that the Ethiopian volcano had been dormant for nearly twelve thousand years and became active again due to tectonic shifts in the region.

Based on current assessments from the IMD, the ash cloud is expected to clear out of India by 14:00 GMT, which corresponds to approximately 7:30 in the evening according to local time.

Bollywood actor Celina Jaitly has filed a case under the Domestic Violence Act against her husband Peter Haag, alleging domestic violence, cruelty, and manipulation. A Mumbai court has issued a notice to Haag, an Austrian entrepreneur and hotelier, following the complaint.

Marriage and Family Background

Celina Jaitly and Haag married in Austria in 2011. The couple has three sons. They became parents to twin boys in March 2012, followed by a second set of twin boys in 2017. One of the twins born in 2017 died due to a hypoplastic heart condition.

Celina Jaitly appeared in several Hindi films including No Entry, Apna Sapna Money Money, Money Hai Toh Honey Hai, Golmaal Returns, and Thank You.

Separate Legal Matter Involving Brother

In a separate legal matter last month, Jaitly approached a Delhi court seeking assistance for her brother, Major (retired) Vikrant Jaitly. She stated that he has been “illegally abducted and detained” in the United Arab Emirates.

According to her petition, her brother has resided in the UAE since 2016, where he was employed with the MATITI Group, a company engaged in trading, consultancy, and risk management services.

Allegations Against Ministry

Jaitly alleged that the Ministry of External Affairs has not secured basic information about her brother, including his welfare conditions and legal status, since his detention in September 2024.

Following the petition, the Delhi court directed authorities to facilitate contact between Jaitly and her brother, and to ensure contact between him and his wife.

Case Status

The domestic violence case filed in Mumbai court is currently in its initial stages, with notices issued to the respondent. No further details about the specific allegations or proceedings have been made public at this time.

The legal proceedings related to her brother’s detention in the UAE remain ongoing, with the court’s directive to authorities now in effect.

Both cases represent separate legal matters being pursued through different courts in India. The domestic violence case falls under the jurisdiction of the Mumbai court system, while the petition regarding her brother’s detention was filed in Delhi.

No statements from Peter Haag or the Ministry of External Affairs were immediately available regarding these matters.

To honor Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, the Punjab government has established three large tent cities where thousands of devotees can stay without paying anything. These temporary accommodations have been created with remarkable attention to detail, and their overall quality has impressed everyone who has visited.

People staying in these tent cities have spoken highly of the arrangements. Even though everything is free, the administration has ensured that no comfort is compromised. Every tent offers a clean and peaceful environment, creating a homely atmosphere for visitors.

Since the weather is cold, the administration has taken special measures to keep devotees warm. Each tent has been equipped with thick blankets and soft mattresses, and the tents have been designed in a way that prevents cold air from entering. This has allowed devotees to sleep comfortably even during chilly nights.

Many who arrived expecting basic facilities were surprised to see how well the tent cities have been built. Electricity and lighting are available in all tents. The washrooms and bathrooms have been kept clean, and safe drinking water has been arranged separately.

Free transportation has also been made available. Shuttle buses and e rickshaws run frequently, making it easy for devotees to travel between the tent cities and the Gurdwara. No one needs to walk long distances, as all transport services are being offered at no cost.

Medical services are functioning round the clock within the tent cities. Doctors and support staff remain on duty throughout the day and night. Medicines are also being provided free of charge. Additional care has been arranged for senior citizens and children, and hot nutritious meals are being served in the langar.

Security has been given equal importance. Police personnel and volunteers are stationed throughout the area, and CCTV cameras monitor all movements. Separate safety arrangements have been put in place for women and children, and the entire complex is well lit throughout the night.

With these arrangements, the Punjab government has shown that free facilities can still meet high standards. Devotees have expressed that they felt completely at ease and experienced comfort similar to what they would have at home. For those attending the commemoration of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, these tent cities have truly been a blessing. The effort put in by the administration is receiving praise from all corners.
