30.51 Lakh Families Enrolled in Sehat Yojna in Under 3 Months, Punjab Sets Healthcare Benchmark: Dr. Balbir Singh

Punjab, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has emerged as a national example in large-scale public healthcare delivery through the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna. Within just three months of its launch on January 8, 2026, the scheme has enrolled more than 30.51 lakh families and approved free treatment worth ₹292 crore. Highlighting its rapid rollout, Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Balbir Singh said the initiative has already provided significant financial relief and improved access to healthcare for lakhs of families across the state.

Speaking at a press conference at Punjab Bhawan, Dr Balbir Singh said that 30,51,325 beneficiaries have been registered under the scheme, with 1,77,097 treatment authorisations issued so far. The total value of approved treatment stands at ₹292 crore, with ₹267 crore already sanctioned. He added that 71,000 claims have been settled and ₹60 crore has been released to empanelled hospitals.

Describing the progress as historic, the minister said Punjab has outperformed other states across key indicators such as registrations, coverage and number of patients treated, placing it at the top nationally.

He also assured hospitals that payments will be made on time, stating that all pending dues up to March 31 will be cleared by April 15 and that no outstanding payments will remain.

Explaining the revised payment system to be implemented from April 1, he said claims up to ₹1 lakh will be processed within 15 days, while higher value claims will be cleared within a week of submission. In cases requiring verification or dispute resolution, the process will be completed within one month.

Highlighting the impact on beneficiaries, Dr Balbir Singh said the scheme has supported patients across all age groups, from infants to elderly individuals. He noted that it has covered advanced medical procedures, including more than 100 types of heart related treatments. In one instance, a patient with a ruptured sinus was successfully treated at Patiala Medical College under the scheme.

He added that the ₹292 crore spent on treatment effectively reduces the financial burden on citizens by allowing them to retain their savings. The State Health Agency, working alongside United India Insurance, is ensuring the smooth implementation of universal healthcare coverage across Punjab.
