Pawan Express Suffers AC Coach Fire Near Madhubani Station

An air-conditioned coach of the Pawan Express train caught fire near Bihar’s Madhubani district on Friday. The incident occurred while the train was stationed at Jaynagar station in Madhubani.

According to sources, smoke and flames were seen erupting from an AC passenger compartment this morning. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported so far.

Railway authorities and fire teams rushed to the station upon receiving emergency alerts. Several units worked swiftly to douse the blaze in the affected coach and prevent it from spreading.

Preliminary assessments point to a suspected electrical short-circuit. Investigations are underway to ascertain the exact trigger for the fire. Train operations at Jaynagar station were also temporarily hampered.

The Pawan Express mishap comes just weeks after similar incidents aboard the Secunderabad-Sirpur-Kagaznagar train in Telangana and the Vaishali Superfast Express in Uttar Pradesh.

It highlights persisting safety risks with electrical fittings and components in aging railway coaches across parts of the country. The damage from AC coach fires also tends to be more severe given the insulation and interiors.

As services resume on the Pawan Express, the latest episode stresses the need for proactive fire audits and potential rolling stock upgrades to prevent repeat rail disasters. Authorities are hopeful there will be no further disruption following the swift dousing of flames and emergency response at Jaynagar.

MS Dhoni Set To Join Sachin As India Great With Retired Jersey No.7

Indian cricket is poised to bestow another historic honor upon legend Mahendra Singh Dhoni by retiring his iconic national team jersey no. 7. As per reports, the BCCI has decided that no player going forward can don the no.7 made famous by Dhoni during his trophy-laden captaincy stint.

The move, once formalized, will make Dhoni only the second Indian cricketer after Sachin Tendulkar to earn a retired jersey number. It reflects his unmatched contribution as one of India’s greatest matchwinners and captains through the 2000s and early 2010s.

Four years since his last international match during the infamous 2019 World Cup exit, the BCCI feels the time is right to immortalize Dhoni’s jersey no.7. It carries much emotional value for his countless fans worldwide thanks to indelible moments like the 2011 World Cup triumph.

“The BCCI has decided to retire Dhoni’s T-shirt for his contribution to the game,” a senior Board official revealed to Indian Express. “A new player can’t get No. 7.”

Beyond just trophies, Dhoni transformed Indian cricket with his selfless leadership. He backed young talents, took bold decisions, and often sacrificed his batting position for the team’s benefit – traits that earned deep admiration.

Once the jersey retirement gets approved, players and fans going forward will forever associate India’s no.7 shirt with MS Dhoni – the small-town boy who became ‘Captain Cool’ and one of cricket’s shrewdest minds.

It will serve as a constant reminder of his indelible impact on the sport in the 21st century. More importantly, it immortalizes Dhoni as an all-time great deserving of the prestigious honor.

Parliament Attack Mastermind’s Associate Nabbed Amid Evidence Destruction

Delhi Police arrested two more suspects on Friday linked to the shocking security breach at Parliament earlier this week. The accused allegedly assisted key conspirator Lalit Mohan Jha by destroying evidence and evading arrest.

Mahesh, a Rajasthan resident associated with a Bhagat Singh Fan Club, was nabbed for sheltering Jha post the incident. A second individual named Kailash was also detained. Both are being interrogated for their role in plotting the orchestrated attack.

It was revealed that Mahesh planned to create a stir in Parliament on Jha’s directions but was stopped by family members. Jha had allegedly filmed scenes outside Parliament during the breach and sent clips to Nilakahya Aich, an NGO head in West Bengal.

But later, anticipating the arrest of his four accomplices who infiltrated Parliament, Jha got them to hand over phones and IDs before fleeing Delhi. He entrusted the devices to Mahesh, who destroyed them all. As raids intensified, a panicking Jha surrendered himself on Friday.

The shocking security lapses occurred on the same date as the 2001 attack, raising alarm on the 20th anniversary. Four individuals managed to sneak in colored smoke cans and use them to disrupt Parliament sessions. All were arrested and charged under the UAPA anti-terror law.

While their motives highlighted issues like farmers’ protests and unemployment, the blatant attack exposed dangerous flaws in the security apparatus of the highest seat of Indian democracy. The links between infiltrators and shadowy associates now under the scanner will point to deeper conspiracy angles.

Sensex Breaches 71,000 Milestone Amid Global Rally

The BSE Sensex zoomed to an all-time high on Friday, crossing the historic 71,000 mark for the first time. The record rally comes on the back of a risk-on sentiment globally following assurance of an eventual pause in US Fed rate hikes.

By mid-morning, the Sensex had added 460 points to sit at an unprecedented 70,975 level. The NSE Nifty mirrored the surge, trading above the 21,300 level in intraday deals.

Frontline indices charged ahead as investors pivoted back into rate-sensitive stocks. IT, metal, and media shares saw buoyant activity with gains between 1-1.5%.

Infosys, TCS, HCL Tech, and Wipro drove nearly 200 points of the Sensex rally. JSW Steel, Tata Steel, Tech Mahindra, and Sun Pharma also aided upside momentum.

Meanwhile, Kotak Bank, Bajaj Finance, ITC, and select FMCG majors proved to be relative laggards. But overall market breadth remained firmly positive.

The risk-on move follows the US Fed signaling potential policy easing by 2024 earlier this week. The dovish outlook has fired up emerging market peers with the Sensex now gaining over 5% in December 2022 alone.

While some analysts advise caution at stretched valuations, the history-making run continues for domestic indices as the Santa rally adds further froth this holiday season.

The focus now turns to RBI’s rate decision next week where any shift in stance could provide the next trigger for bulls to propel domestic indices even higher up.

Allahabad High Court Has Allowed Survey of Mathura Mosque: Petition Claims There’s Lord Krishina’s Birthplace Underneath

On Thursday, the Allahabad High Court allowed a court-monitored survey of the Shahi Idgah adjoining the Krishna Janmabhoomi temple, which is an important milestone in the temple-mosque dispute in Mathura.

The court has agreed to the appointment of an advocate commissioner to oversee the entire survey of the mosque premises, which the petition claims hold a sign that it was a Hindu temple at some point in the past.

Justice Mayank Kumar Jain commented on the modalities of the survey, which will be discussed at the hearing on December 18, 2023. The order on the Krishina Janmabhoomi-Shahi Idgah issue is the second temple-mosque dispute in which the state’s high court has given its nod to a survey over the past few months. The ASI (Archeological Survey of India) recently completed a survey of the Gyanvapi mosque, which was next to Varanasi’s Kashi Vishwanath Temple, but has asked for more time from a local court to complete its report.

While arguing for their case for a survey, the petitioners gave an example of the Varanasi case as well. Justice Jain said that no harm should be caused to the Mathura structure during the survey, which he said could be overseen by a commission of advocates.

The high court said, “The commission is duty bound to submit its fair and impartial report on the basis of the actual status of the property. The commission may also submit its discovery as to the existence of particular signs at the property as referred by the plaintiffs,”

The high court also said that representatives of both sides to the dispute can accompany the commission members and assist them “so that the correct position of the spot may be noted and be brought before the Court.””

The court has also asked to maintain the sanctity of the premises during the execution of the surgery.

Helmed by acclaimed director Abhishek Chaubey (Udta Punjab, Sonchiriya), the darkly humorous thriller follows a hapless home chef Swathi Shetty (Konkona) plotting to murder her husband Prabhakar (Bajpayee). Her clever scheme goes hilariously awry when meddling cops and amateur goons get involved.

Chaubey, also the showrunner and co-writer, described Killer Soup as “a pot-boiler sent completely over the top with an exceptional cast.” Alongside leads, Bajpayee and Sen Sharma are comedic talents like Nasser, Sayaji Shinde, and Lal meant to amplify the madness.

The series aims to shock viewers with eccentric characters and crimes while also eliciting big laughs. It’s loosely inspired by a strange real-life news story that Chaubey has fictionalized in his trademark gritty style seen in titles like Gangs of Wasseypur.

For Netflix, Killer Soup makes for a promising start to its 2023 India slate banking on the pairing of Bajpayee and Sen Sharma. Netflix India VP Monika Shergill called the show “a genre audiences love…like no other. Crazy, quirky, and bizarre.”

With filming wrapped, post-production duties now lie with producers Honey Trehan and Chetana Kowshik. Together the team hopes to cook up a dark comedy feast blending intrigue and humor to perfection for viewers worldwide come January 2023.

Shivering Temperatures Grip North And East India

Shivering Temperatures Grip North And East India

As icy winter winds swept the northern plains, Amritsar froze to a minimum of 4.7°C on Wednesday – the lowest recorded across India’s north. Meanwhile, eastern metro Kolkata awoke to its coldest day yet this season at 14.6°C.

The plunging mercury signals the peak of winter amid forecasts of even harsher cold ahead. Dense fog across Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh has disrupted daily life over the past week. Up north, higher altitudes of West Bengal may even see snowfall.

“Cold winds from the north will bring down temperatures across the state,” stated a Met official in Kolkata. Minimums of 6°C-10°C are predicted for most parts of north and central India, with Shimla already hitting sub-zero levels.

Coastal Karnataka provided the only warm respite with Honavar touching 35.4°C. But most cities are reaching for extra blankets by early evening itself.

For West Bengal, persistent chills below 15°C since late November 2022 confirm winter’s firm grip. The joy of the festive season ahead remains dampened by dipping mercury and gloomy grey skies dominating mornings.

Further up in the Darjeeling hills, the prospects of snowfall loom amid forecasts of rainfall over the next 48 hours. The picturesque sight of snow-capped summits may momentarily offset the harsh cold for residents.

But as entire north and east India tighten defenses against cruel winter, fears grow over the preparedness of homeless citizens and infrastructure to handle the impending cold waves. Amritsar’s 4.7°C gives just a glimpse of the bitter conditions awaiting at the peak of the winter season during January.

Elon Musk’s Rebellious AI Chatbot Grok Now Accessible In India

Elon Musk's Rebellious AI Chatbot Grok Now Accessible In India

Elon Musk’s unconventional AI chatbot Grok has extended its reach to India and 46 other countries after initially rolling out in the U.S. Built by Musk’s AI firm Anthropic, Grok offers a dose of humor and attitude lacking in mainstream chatbots.

Indian users can access the software via Twitter’s $8 Premium Blue subscription. Grok arrives just as Musk pushes new monetization features on the platform in a bid to boost revenue.

Touted to respond with “wit and wisdom”, Grok differentiates itself from rivals through real-time inputs from Twitter data. Its underlying 33 billion parameter AI model Grok-0 also claims superiority over OpenAI’s GPT-3.5 which powers ChatGPT.

In early interactions, the chatbot has lived up to its billing of having a rebellious streak. When prompted to roast its own creator Musk, Grok labeled the tech billionaire a “delicate flower” and critiqued recent changes at Twitter under his leadership.

Such antics aside, Musk believes Grok represents the next phase of conversational AI. By tapping Twitter’s treasure trove of data, Anthropic aims to equip Grok with more grounded, up-to-date responses compared to most chatbots trained on old internet archives.

India is among the first expansion markets for Grok following its limited U.S. launch. Interest locally is expected to be high given Musk and Twitter’s huge follower base. And pricing of ₹1,300 monthly or ₹13,600 annually seems targeted at premium users willing to pay for exclusive access.

Whether Grok’s unique persona and perspective ultimately sway users into buying Twitter Blue remains to be seen. But the product’s evolution will be watched closely as Musk continues seeking silver bullets to boost the platform’s fortunes in India and beyond.
