Delhiites woke up to the coldest morning yet this winter as the mercury plunged to a bone-chilling 6.2 degrees Celsius on Thursday. That marks the lowest minimum temperature recorded in the capital so far this season.

Over the past week, night temperatures have been dropping sharply across North India, heralding the onset of peak winter. Delhi too has witnessed the minimum settled at 6.5°C and 6.8°C earlier this week after curiosingly warmer temperatures last week.

But Thursday’s frigid 6.2°C reading sets a new 2022-23 low for the city. It was logged at 8:30 AM along with dense fog that reduced visibility during early morning hours.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast the cold spell to intensify over the next two days as well. Minimums are expected to range from 6°C to 7°C, with maximums struggling to touch 24°C.

Delhi’s air quality index also deteriorated into the ‘very poor’ category amid low wind speeds and dipping mercury. The added winter smog poses respiratory risks for citizens venturing outdoors.

Authorities have ramped up preparations to support the homeless and other vulnerable sections as peak cold waves arrive. But most Delhi residents will simply be reaching for their fleece blankets and preparing hot beverages after experiencing the bitter 6.2°C chill on Thursday morning.

For a city used to harsh winter extremes, this early season record low comes as a sign of the bone-numbing conditions ahead over January and February.

A shocking explosion rang out inside a hostel at Uttar Pradesh’s Allahabad University on Wednesday. An MA student suffered grievous injuries after a homemade bomb accidentally detonated in his room.

Identified as Prabhat Yadav, the injured pupil was crafting an explosive device inside his quarters at the PC Banerjee Hostel. But the experiment went awry, leaving Yadav with severe hand wounds. Another student in proximity suffered a minor impact as well.

Emergency services rushed a critically wounded Yadav to SRN Hospital. But his motives behind the dangerous bomb-making effort remain unclear. Police are preparing to register a formal case against the irresponsible student pending further investigation.

The alarming incident has highlighted worrying trends of youth and teens dabbling in explosives. Last year, UP Police caught 10 juvenile students trained in assembling bombs meant to establish gang supremacy in Prayagraj.

In many instances, impressionable young Indians are learning such lethal skills from the internet and trying it out to have fatal consequences. Back in 2019, Allahabad University raids uncovered crude bombs and related paraphernalia on campus too.

Administrators may now consider revamping hostel security and surveillance to deter such acts. But addressing the root obsession with violence and weapons among youth will require wider social introspection.

As for the injured Prabhat Yadav, police will seek to unravel how and why bomb-making gripped his imagination once he recovers. The distressing blast offers more evidence that online radicalization and poor mentorship are steering students down precarious paths.

A woman once condemned as Australia’s most notorious serial child murderer had her name cleared today by the New South Wales Supreme Court. Kathleen Folbigg was acquitted after spending over 20 years jailed for the deaths of her four infant children.

Folbigg was originally convicted in 2003 on three counts of murder and one of manslaughter relating to her children’s deaths between 1989 and 1999. But last year’s inquiry raised doubts over evidence linking Folbigg to the tragedies.

On Thursday, the Court formally pardoned her convictions – a decision she received with gratitude and vindication. “The system preferred to blame me rather than accept that sometimes, children can and do die suddenly,” she told reporters.

The ruling follows a 2019 probe that uncovered possible genetic factors in two children’s deaths. Caleb and Patrick carried mutations that may have caused cardiac arrest. Sarah and Laura shared another variant with their mother that can trigger fatal conditions in children.

Former NSW Chief Justice Tom Bathurst concluded it “unreasonable” to determine Folbigg guilty beyond doubt based on such medical advancements. He also highlighted her diary entries used against Folbigg as “open to different interpretations.”

Folbigg’s lawyer Rhanee Rego has confirmed they will seek substantial compensation from the state for her wrongful 20-year incarceration. The sum would exceed previous payouts for miscarriages of justice.

The high-profile Folbigg case has spotlighted flaws in the justice system when it comes to charging grieving parents amidst unexplained childhood deaths. With conclusive proof still lacking as to the exact causes, the appeals court emphasized maintaining the “presumption of innocence.”

The outcome represents a major rebuke to prosecutors adamant over the years of Folbigg’s guilt. But for Folbigg herself, still mourning her four departed children, the priority now will be trying to piece her life back together after two decades behind bars.

The BSE Sensex vaulted a whopping 927 points to breach the 70,500 mark. Mirroring the surge, the NSE Nifty 50 crossed 21,150 to log gains of over 250 points.

Powering the rally were IT, bank, and financial services stocks as investors pivoted back into rate-sensitive sectors. Tech Mahindra and HCL Tech led the pack with over 4% jumps. Infosys, TCS, Wipro, and the Bajaj twins all logged a strong 2-3% upside.

Broader markets also joined the frenzy, with midcaps and small-caps trading firmly higher. All sectoral indices flashed green on the screens by late morning.

Experts pointed to the U.S. Federal Reserve’s latest policy announcement as the catalyst for Thursday’s euphoria. The Fed tweaked its projection to forecast no more interest rate hikes in 2023, contrary to market fears of continued tightening.

The indication of eventually lower rates in major economies has stoked risk appetite globally. U.S. indices posted robust 2% gains overnight after the Fed decision. And the feel-good factor now appears to have transmitted to Indian shores as well.

But some analysts advised caution about overstretched valuations, despite the ongoing rally. Market breadth also remains narrowly positive for now. Nonetheless, bulls have certainly seized control entering the last trading sessions of the year, upbeat over the return of easy money policies.

Two unidentified individuals entered the MP Chambers in India’s Lower House of Parliament on Wednesday and threw smoke bombs in a significant security breach.


Both men decided to jump into the well where lawmakers were sitting during the session’s zero hours from the visitor’s gallery and decided to open smoke canisters, filling the entire parliament space with yellow smoke. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was not present in the parliament at the time of the incident.


The security breach was one of the major ones in recent times and comes on the 22nd anniversary of the deadly 2021 terrorist attack, which took place in the Indian parliament and ended up killing 14 people, including security officers and five gunmen.


After the smoke scare, both houses were adjourned briefly moments later. The two suspects were taken into custody following the security breach. Another two people, named Anmol from Maharashtra and a woman named Neelam from Haryana, were taken outside of the parliament complex for conducting a protest and opening a smoke bomb inside the parliament.
An investigation has been launched into the incident, and instructions have been passed to Delhi Police, according to Om Birla, Speaker of Lok Sabha.


BJP MP Rajendra Agarwal, who was presiding over the session, commented, “There is a loophole for sure. When the first person came down, we thought he might have fallen, but when the second person started coming down, all of us became cautious.”


He also added “The person tried to open his shoes and took something out after which smoke came out. Action will be taken against this. The Speaker and responsible people will make the decision on this.”


The incident also comes just after months Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the newly built parliament building, a project that caused crores to move to a modern complex from the colonial-era building.

The filmmaker replied to Kaushal’s post with a simple “You” and heart emoji. Their creative partnership runs deeper than just the director and actor.

And Sam Bahadur itself continues to be a passion project for both even after release, amidst glowing reviews. As it enters its second week in theaters, the biopic on Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw has earnings of ₹61 crore – higher than its reported ₹55 crore budget.

The outsiders detained while igniting smoke grenades near Parliament have been identified as 42-year-old Neelam from Haryana and 25-year-old Amol Shinde of Pune. According to sources, the quartet was connected beforehand and strategized the coordinated smoke stunt.

Alarmingly, Neelam and Shinde carried no ID or mobile phones when nabbed. They refused to disclose any organizational affiliation. The pair claimed to have arrived spontaneously, but investigators aren’t buying the story. A special interrogation team is being set up to uncover the plot and potential funding.

What is clear is that Neelam adheres to far-left political ideology and participated actively in the farmers’ protests. Out of work, she turned to social activism. Her father runs a sweet shop in their Jind village.

Shinde’s background is still being probed, but the fact that all four Parliament infiltrators chose the same modus operandi points to a thought-out plan. On the 20th anniversary of the terror attack on the same site, it represents a stark security wakeup call.

The smoke grenade ingredients remain unknown as yet. But the choreographed chants after deployment sent a message – dictatorship and limitations on activism will be fought through dramatic means.

Details shared on the gaming forum ResetEra claim the console will launch in September 2024 to achieve over 30fps gameplay at upscaled 4K resolution. Powering this is said to be a custom AMD Ryzen CPU clocked at 4.4 GHz on the Zen 2 architecture.

But the real star of the show is the rumored GPU, sporting an AMD RDNA3 architecture with ray tracing acceleration at the fore. The codenamed “Viola” graphics chip reportedly packs 30-28 Work Group Processors and 16GB of speedy DDR6 RAM delivering 576GB/s memory bandwidth.

To achieve optimized framerates, the PS5 Pro may leverage advanced upscaling tech that synthesizes pixels rather than just stretching images. Paired with bespoke SSD storage, this would allow ray-traced graphics at 4K resolution without as significant a performance hit.

Notably, though, Sony themselves have not confirmed the existence of a PS5 Pro yet. The leaked spec sheet comes from an anonymous ResetEra forum poster. But insider Tom Henderson suggests these details may be legitimate, with Sony expected to distribute PS5 Pro developer kits this month ahead of the retail launch 18 months later.

Of course, the actual specs won’t be known until Sony officially unveils its roadmap for the future of the PS5 line. But if the rumors materialize, the PS5 Pro looks set to deliver a major graphical leap over its predecessor. For now, the waiting game continues for console buyers holding out for the biggest baddest PlayStation yet.

As per entertainment site Pinkvilla, the untitled rom-com will be released directly on a leading OTT platform under Dharma’s digital arm Dharmatic Entertainment. With the ensemble cast already locked in, preparations are underway to kickstart filming in 2023. The streaming rights are also being shopped to major contenders like Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Disney+ Hotstar.

Helming directorial duties is Shauna Gautam, who assisted Johar on his upcoming Ranveer Singh-Alia Bhatt starrer Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani. Known for her work on Sanju, Gautam is said to be steering the project based on a script with all the trappings of Bollywood romantic escapades.
