IRS Officer Gets Arrested After Live-In Partner’s Body Found At His Home

0

On Monday, the Noida Police arrested Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer Saurabh Meena in connection with the alleged suicide of a woman at his flat in Lotus Boulevard Society, Sector 100.

The incident was reported on Saturday evening at Tower-8 of Lotus Boulevard Society, where 37-year-old Shilpa Gautam was found hanging from the ceiling.

Meena, a 2016-batch IRS officer currently posted in Delhi, informed the police that Shilpa had locked herself in a room and hanged herself from a ceiling fan, according to a report by the Times of India. He claimed that the room’s door was opened by a security guard he had called after Shilpa had not responded for a long time.

Shilpa, who worked in human resources at Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), had divorced her husband five years ago and was reportedly living with Saurabh Meena in the same flat.

Shilpa’s father, OP Gautam, filed a police complaint alleging that Saurabh Meena had killed Shilpa and staged it as a suicide. According to the Times of India, he claimed that Saurabh and Shilpa met three years ago on a dating app and that Saurabh had promised to marry Shilpa but failed to keep his promise, leading to frequent arguments between them.

The police have registered a case against Saurabh Meena under various IPC sections, and he has been sent to judicial custody. According to an NDTV report, Saurabh Meena countered the family’s claim, stating that he met Shilpa through a dating app three months ago, not three years ago.

The police are continuing their investigation and awaiting the post-mortem report to determine the exact cause of death. They are also analyzing data from both individuals’ mobile phones and CCTV footage from the society.

Mumbai’s Taj Hotel and Airport Receives Bomb Threat

0

On Monday, the Mumbai Police reported that a control room received a call claiming bombs had been placed at the Taj Hotel and the airport in the city. Following a thorough search, “nothing suspicious was found.”

The Mumbai Police indicated that the call “originated” from Uttar Pradesh and that a search for the caller is ongoing, according to a report by news agency ANI.

This bomb scare in Mumbai occurred against a backdrop of several other bogus bomb threats in various cities, including Delhi and Chennai.

According to The Hindu, the director of Chennai airport received two emails on May 26, claiming bombs would be planted near the airport and advising that passengers be deboarded. The emails were forwarded to the police, who found the threats to be hoaxes after conducting checks.

On May 23, two Delhi University colleges received bomb threats that were later determined to be false. The Delhi Fire Service reported receiving calls about bomb threats at Lady Shri Ram College and Sri Venkateswara College.

Additionally, a bomb threat was reported at the Union Home Ministry’s office in Delhi’s North Block on May 22.

Several schools in Delhi-NCR, Gujarat, Jaipur, Uttar Pradesh, and Bengaluru have also received bomb threats via email in recent weeks, causing panic. However, all these threats turned out to be hoaxes.

The Delhi Police noted that a total of 131 schools received threat emails on May 1. Additionally, at least four schools in Jaipur received bomb threats via email on May 13.

Japan Calls to ‘Stay Indoors’ After North Korea Decides to Fire Ballistic Missile

0

On Monday, the Japanese government issued an emergency warning for Okinawa residents to seek shelter due to the potential threat of a North Korean ballistic missile, reported Reuters.

“Stay indoors or find shelter,” the Japanese government announced via its J-Alert broadcasting system, according to the report.

Meanwhile, North Korea reported that its attempt to launch another spy satellite into orbit had failed, with the rocket carrying the satellite exploding mid-air on Monday.

Earlier, the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) stated that the launch vehicle might have failed in flight, noting the detection of “many fragments” in the ocean from the rocket. South Korean and US intelligence agencies are investigating whether the launch was unsuccessful.

“Around two minutes after detecting what is suspected to be North Korea’s military reconnaissance satellite, many fragments of the projectile were observed around 22:46 (1346 GMT) in North Korean waters, and the US and South Korea are analyzing whether it had operational flight,” AFP quoted Seoul’s JCS.

The South Korean JCS also reported that North Korea fired the projectile on a southern path off its west coast at approximately 10:44 p.m. (1344 GMT), shortly after Pyongyang announced a satellite launch before June 4.

The launch appeared to originate from Dongchang-ri, a northwestern area of North Korea where its main space flight center is located, the JCS added.

“The missile did not fly into the area that had been announced, and the situation is not as North Korea had intended. We are still analyzing whether it is a satellite or not,” Kyodo news quoted a senior Japanese defense ministry official.

The official further noted that the color of the flames in the footage suggests that liquid fuel may be burning, but details are still being analyzed.

It is important to note that Pyongyang successfully launched its first military reconnaissance satellite into orbit in November last year after North Korean leader Kim Jong Un visited Russia’s most modern space launch center in September.

North Korea is attempting to build a space-based surveillance network in response to what it perceives as increasing US-led military threats. The North Korean leader previously announced at a ruling party meeting that Pyongyang plans to launch three additional military spy satellites in 2024.

Egypt’s President All Set to Visit China Later This Week

0

Egypt President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, along with leaders from the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Tunisia, will visit China this week, according to Beijing’s foreign ministry.

From May 28 to June 1, these leaders will “pay state visits to China and attend the opening ceremony of the 10th Ministerial Conference of the China-Arab States Cooperation Forum,” stated foreign ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying.

The delegation will include Bahrain’s King Hamad, Tunisian President Kais Saied, and UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

This meeting with Arab leaders in Beijing is part of China’s efforts to position itself as a mediator in the conflict between the Palestinian militant group Hamas and Israel.

China has historically supported the Palestinian cause and advocated for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

President Xi Jinping has called for an “international peace conference” to address the conflict. In November, Beijing hosted a meeting of foreign ministers from the Palestinian Authority, Indonesia, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan to discuss “de-escalation” of the current Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

On October 7, Hamas attacked southern Israel, resulting in over 1,170 deaths, mostly civilians, according to an AFP tally based on Israeli official figures. Militants also took 252 hostages, with 121 still in Gaza, including 37 who the army says are dead.

Israel’s retaliatory offensive has resulted in at least 35,984 deaths in Gaza, mostly civilians, according to the health ministry of the Hamas-run territory.

Kangana Ranaut Denies That She Partied With Gangster Abu Salem

Kangana Ranaut issued a clarification after a controversial picture surfaced on social media in recent days. The picture shows her with a man who was claimed to be gangster Abu Salem. The actor-turned-politician addressed the issue on her Instagram Stories, stating that the claim is false and that the man in the picture is a former journalist. Kangana is currently the Bharatiya Janata Party’s candidate for Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi Lok Sabha seat.

Kangana shared a screenshot of the picture, in which she is seen smiling with a man, and captioned it, “Desperate Congress officials are spreading this picture with the caption that I am partying with Gangster Abu Salem. This is utterly disrespectful to journalist Mr. Mark Manuel, who is the former entertainment editor of the Times of India. He is not Abu Salem, and this picture is from a film promotion event.”

Last week, Kangana posted a series of pictures with PM Narendra Modi, who had visited Mandi on May 24 to address a rally. In one of the photos, she greeted the PM and handed him a red rose. At a public meeting, she expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to work under PM Modi’s leadership, saying, “The day has arrived to work under the guidance of PM Modi. Hailing PM Modi is like showing a candle to the sun. The technical and modern developmental works he has done are tremendous. Now I am part of his team and committed to the developmental works for Mandi as a party worker.”

Kangana will next be seen in “Emergency,” in which she plays Indira Gandhi. The film is written by Ritesh Shah, who also wrote Kangana’s previous film “Dhaakad,” which failed at the box office. Besides Kangana, the film features Anupam Kher, Milind Soman, Mahima Chaudhry, Satish Kaushik, and Shreyas Talpade in key roles. The release date of the film is yet to be decided.

Rahul Gandhi Takes a Jab At PM Modi’s ‘sent by god’ Remark

0

On Monday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his ‘sent by god’ comment. Gandhi suggested that after the elections, when the Enforcement Directorate (ED) questions PM Modi about industrialist Gautam Adani, Modi will claim that God directed him.

“You know why PM Modi has brought up this story of being sent by God? Because, after the election, when the ED questions him about Adani, he will say, ‘I don’t know, it was instructed by God,’” Gandhi remarked at a rally in Bihar’s Bakhtiyarpur.

He further criticized the prime minister on the issue of unemployment, saying, “Modi ji, stop giving long speeches and dividing the country. First, tell the people of Bihar and the entire country how many jobs you have provided to the youth.”

Gandhi’s comments came shortly after PM Modi stated in a news channel interview that, while his mother was alive, he believed his birth was biological. After her death, reflecting on his experiences, he became convinced that God had sent him.

“Until my mother was alive, I used to think I was born biologically. After her demise, when I look at my experiences, I am convinced that I was sent by God. This strength is not from my body. It has been given to me by God. That’s why God also gave me the ability, strength, pure-heartedness, and inspiration to do this. I’m nothing but an instrument that God has sent,” PM Modi reportedly said during the interview.

Voting in Bihar’s Sasaram, Nalanda, Patna Sahib, Pataliputra, Arrah, Buxar, Karakat, and Jehanabad Lok Sabha constituencies will take place in the final phase on June 1.

In Bihar, the NDA coalition partners BJP and JD(U) are contesting 17 and 16 seats, respectively. Chirag Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) is contesting five seats, and Jitan Manjhi’s Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) and the Rashtriya Lok Morcha are each contesting one seat. The Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) comprises the RJD, Congress, and Left parties.

Cyclone Remal Hits Bengal: More Rain Expected By Experts

0

Severe cyclonic storm ‘Remal’ made landfall between the coasts of Bangladesh and West Bengal around 8:30 pm on Sunday. The cyclone brought heavy rains, flooding homes and farmland, and causing widespread destruction.

The landfall occurred between Sagar Island in West Bengal and Khepupara near the southwest of Mongla in Bangladesh. Thick sheets of rain obscured the vast coastline as the cyclone hit, with surging waters sweeping fishing boats inland and inundating mud-and-thatch houses and farmlands in low-lying areas.

The MeT office stated, “Severe cyclonic storm Remal made landfall between Sagar Island in West Bengal and Khepupara in Bangladesh on Sunday night with wind speeds reaching up to 135 kmph.”

Cyclone Remal flattened fragile dwellings, uprooted trees, and knocked down electric poles in North and South 24 Parganas and East Midnapore. Over one lakh people were evacuated from vulnerable areas in West Bengal before the cyclone struck.

Evacuation efforts concentrated on relocating people from South 24 Parganas district, especially Sagar Island, Sundarbans, and Kakdwip, according to an official.

Streets and homes in low-lying areas adjoining Kolkata were inundated. In Kolkata’s Bibir Bagan area, one person was injured when a wall collapsed due to the heavy downpour.

Cyclone Remal also caused significant disruptions in air, rail, and road transportation in Kolkata and other parts of southern Bengal. The Eastern and South Eastern Railways canceled some trains, and the Kolkata airport suspended flight operations for 21 hours, affecting 394 flights.

The India Meteorological Department’s eastern regional head, Somnath Dutta, indicated that southern Bengal districts would experience increasing winds and rainfall.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a meeting to review the response and preparedness for the storm, while West Bengal Governor Dr. CV Ananda Bose closely monitored the situation.

Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) authorities evacuated people from high-rises and dilapidated buildings, according to Mayor Firhad Hakim. Hakim mentioned that 15,000 civic employees were mobilized to address post-cyclone scenarios, with equipment ready for quick removal of large uprooted trees.

The cyclone caused light rains and winds in areas like Digha, Kakdwip, and Jaynagar, which are expected to intensify on Monday.

On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to India’s first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, on his 60th death anniversary. In a post on X, PM Modi said, “I pay homage to former PM Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Ji on his death anniversary.”

The Congress party also honored Nehru on his death anniversary. Party chief Mallikarjun Kharge highlighted Nehru’s incomparable contribution to India’s history, calling him “the architect of modern India.” Kharge, along with former Congress president Sonia Gandhi, paid floral tributes at Nehru’s memorial ‘Shantivan.’

In a post on X, Kharge emphasized Nehru’s role in advancing India scientifically, economically, and industrially. He called Nehru a dedicated guardian of democracy and a source of inspiration. “Our humble tribute to ‘Hind ke Jawahar’ on his death anniversary,” Kharge said. He quoted Nehru on national unity and equality, noting the Congress party’s continued commitment to these principles.

Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi also paid respects to his great-grandfather. “Respectful tributes to the architect of modern India and the first Prime Minister of the country, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, on his death anniversary,” Gandhi posted on X. He praised Nehru’s lifelong dedication to India’s freedom, democracy, secularism, and the Constitution.

Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh shared reflections on Nehru’s last days and his enduring influence. Ramesh recalled Nehru’s final press interaction on May 22, 1964, and his last days in Dehradun and New Delhi. He noted Nehru’s admiration for the Buddha, pointing out that Nehru’s last day coincided with Buddha Purnima, and his final letter was to a Buddhist.

Ramesh highlighted Nehru’s historical vision, linking India’s ancient heritage with the new republic. This connection is reflected in the use of Emperor Ashoka’s symbols, the chakra in the national flag, and the Sarnath lion capital as the national emblem. Nehru, India’s first and longest-serving prime minister, passed away in office in 1964.

Hardik Pandya’s Divorce Won’t Make Him Lose Any Property

0

Amid rumors of a divorce from Natasa Stankovic, an old video of Hardik Pandya has resurfaced on social media. In the viral video, the cricketer mentions that his house and car are in his mother’s name.

These speculations were fueled by Natasa’s Instagram post saying, “Someone is about to get on the streets,” suggesting she might be claiming 70% of Hardik’s property due to the divorce.

In the short clip, Hardik says, “Mere father ke account may mummy ka naam hai, bhai ke account may bhi aur mere account may bhi… sab unke naam pay hai (My mom is added in my father’s, brother’s and my accounts).” He further elaborates that everything, including their car and house, is in his mother’s name.

The original video, posted on Oaktree Sports’ YouTube channel in 2017, features Hardik discussing his family’s financial dynamics. He shared that he received ₹50 lakh after an IPL season, easing his family’s economic hardships.

A shorter version of the interview, highlighting Hardik’s comments about his finances and his mother’s role, was shared on X (formerly Twitter) with the caption: “Most of Hardik Pandya’s property is in his mother’s name. Gujarati Brain For a Reason.” The user likely shared this in response to the divorce rumors.

This interview occurred three years before Hardik married Natasa Stankovic and had their child, Agastya. Neither Hardik nor Natasa have addressed the divorce rumors.

Speculations about their separation arose after Natasa removed “Pandya” from her Instagram username. Additionally, social media users noted the couple’s lack of recent photos together, Hardik’s absence of a birthday post for Natasa on March 4, and Natasa’s rumored absence from the IPL 2024 season, where she was not seen supporting Hardik and his team.
