UP: A heart-wrenching incident was reported in Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr, when a 38-year-old man raped his 60-year-old mother on January 16 last year. After this inhumane act, his brother reported him to the police. A fast-track court found him guilty and pronounced its judgement on Monday, giving him life imprisonment and filing Rs 51,000 for his crime.

Son rapes 60-year-old mother in UP, gets life-imprisonment

Bulandshahr rural police chief Rohit Mishra said, “This rape case was registered about one-and-a-half years back. A woman accused her son of rape. Police had registered an FIR under relevant sections. The accused’s brother was the complainant. A fast-track court has sentenced the convict to life imprisonment and fined him Rs 51,000.”

Briefing about the case, Government counsel Vijay Kumar Sharma said that he had never encountered a case like this in his career before. “The mother kept crying and repeated, ‘My son raped me’. The man took his mother to get fodder from the field and raped her,” he said.

Here’s what victim told the police:

In an official statement, the victim said that her son took her to the field, gagged her, and pressured her to engage in sexual acts regularly. “I folded my hands and pleaded with him, but he raped me. I kept saying I was an old woman. I lost consciousness. When I regained it, he threatened to kill me if I told anyone about the incident. He also asked me to sleep with him every night. Somehow, I came home and told my niece and son (the complainant),” she told the police, according to the court order.  Moreover, her husband died 10 years back, she added.

Amid the complaint, the doctor who examined the woman said that her body had no sign of external or internal injury. Further, the court noted that even if the doctor who examined the victim does not find signs of rape, it is not a ground to disbelieve the testimony of the complainant, citing a previous judgement.

Here’s what court said:

“If the victim of rape states on oath that she was forcibly subjected to sexual intercourse, her statement will normally be accepted, even if it is uncorroborated unless the material on record requires drawing of an inference that there was consent or that the entire incident was improbable or imaginary,” the court noted the Supreme Court judgement.

Convict calls himself ‘innocent’

Despite heinous allegations, the convict said that he did not commit the crime and was innocent. The case against him, he said, was false and registered to usurp his property.

The court’s order noted that the defence did not present any witnesses to prove a property dispute between the accused and his mother. “It must be noted that no mother would accuse her son of raping her just to get some property,” the court’s order said.

Meanwhile, besides rape, the court also found the man guilty of criminal intimidation, for which he was sentenced to one year in jail and a fine of Rs 1,000. The two jail terms will run concurrently, the court held.

HDFC Bank Employee Dies in Lucknow; Colleagues Allege ‘Pressure’

“Days after the alleged overwork-related death of a woman employee from Ernst & Young (EY) India in Pune, another woman employee from HDFC Bank in Lucknow has reportedly died due to work pressure, according to a report by News18.

The deceased, Sadaf Fatima, served as an additional deputy vice-president at HDFC Bank’s Vibuti Khand branch in Gomti Nagar. Her colleagues stated that Fatima collapsed in the office after falling from her chair. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, she was declared dead on arrival, and her body was sent for a postmortem.

Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav, reacting to Fatima’s death, criticized the growing work pressure across both government and private sectors, saying people are being forced to work under extreme conditions. “The situation of workers has become worse than that of bonded laborers, as they don’t even have the right to speak. The government’s role is to solve problems, not offer baseless advice,” Yadav wrote on X.

He also took aim at Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s recent remarks about teaching the youth stress ‘management’ to cope with work pressures. Yadav argued that instead of improving working conditions, the minister’s advice only aggravates the stress of young workers. He urged that if the government cannot bring relief, it should refrain from adding to the public’s frustration with insensitive suggestions.

What happened at EY Pune?
Anna Sebastian Perayil, who passed her CA exams in 2023, had worked at EY India for four months as part of the audit team at S R Batliboi, an EY Global member firm in Pune. Her mother attributed her death to the company’s “glorification of overwork.”

In a letter, Anna’s mother explained that it was her daughter’s first job, and she had been enthusiastic about starting her career. However, within just four months, she was overwhelmed by the “excessive workload.” She worked late nights and weekends, often returning to her accommodation utterly exhausted. The letter further alleged that as a newcomer, Anna was assigned burdensome tasks, and no one from the company attended her funeral.”

North Korea Sends Trash Balloons to Cause Disruptions at Seoul Airport

0

SEOUL, Sept 25 – Since June, South Korea has repeatedly been forced to close runways at the capital’s two main airports due to balloons carrying trash launched by North Korea, according to a South Korean lawmaker on Wednesday, citing aviation data.

Runways at Incheon and Gimpo airports were closed for takeoffs or landings on 20 different days since June 1 when balloons were detected nearby, said Democratic Party parliamentarian Yang Bu-nam in a statement. The closures totaled 413 minutes.

North Korea has launched over 5,500 trash-laden balloons since late May, in response to propaganda leaflets sent by South Korean activists.

Carried by the wind, some balloons landed in the South, including near the presidential office and on airport runways. Although most were safely removed, some caused disruptions to airport operations and triggered small fires.

On June 26, Incheon airport experienced the longest disruption, with runways closed for a total of 166 minutes in one day, according to aviation data from Yang’s office. On Monday, takeoffs and landings at Incheon—one of the world’s busiest airports—were halted for 90 minutes. Gimpo airport, primarily serving domestic flights, has also been affected.

An airline official noted that the North Korean balloon launches have complicated flight operations, requiring some planes to carry extra fuel to accommodate delays or potential diversions.

An aviation authority official explained that runway closures are determined each time a balloon is detected, considering specific conditions rather than proximity alone. South Korea’s military tracks the balloons from launch but has refrained from shooting them down due to safety concerns, despite calls from some MPs and civic groups. On Monday, the military warned it was prepared to take “stern military action” if the North crossed a critical line but did not provide further details.”

‘Personal Views, Nothing…’, Kangana Ranaut after BJP condemns her farm laws remarks

Actor and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut has once again become controversial after she suggested that the three farm laws that were pulled back by the centre following the massive months-long farmers’ protest ‘should be brought back.’ However, her statement drew sharp criticism from her Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Mandi Lok Sabha MP acknowledged that her remarks were personal and had nothing to do with the party.

On Tuesday, the party distanced itself from her remarks, saying that Kangana Ranaut is “not authorised” to make such remarks on behalf of the BJP.

Is BJP backing Kangana on her remarks on Three Farm Laws?

Amid this controversy, BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia said in a video message that these comments were “personal statements” of Ranaut and don’t represent the party’s stand on the farm bills.

Here’s what Kangana said after BJP condemns her remarks:

Following this criticism, Kangana took it to X, stressing that it was the personal nature of her views. She said, “Absolutely, my views on Farmers Laws are personal, and they don’t represent’ party’s stand on those Bills. Thanks.”

‘Three Farm Laws’ should be brought back: BJP MP Kangana Ranaut

This controversy began earlier on Tuesday when, she remarked, “I know this statement could be controversial, but the three farm laws should be brought back. The farmers should themselves demand it,” in an interview with a media house.

During her interview, she argued that three laws were beneficial for the farmers of India but were repealed by the central government in the wake of the massive agitation by farmer groups in some states such as Punjab, Haryana and more.

“Farmers are a pillar of strength in the nation’s development. I want to appeal to them to demand the laws back for their own good,” she said.

What did Kangana Ranaut say about the Framers’ Protests?

Notably, this isn’t the first time the BJP has rebuked remarks by actor-turned-politician – Kangana Ranaut, who is also a Lok Sabha MP. Recently, the BJP distanced itself from her comments on the farmers’ protest which turned into a big conversation, however, amid that the party urged the MP to exercise restraint in making such statements in the future. Sadly, it happened again with her, this time also the topic was the farmers’ protest.

Last month, Kangana claimed that the farmer protests were a build-up to a Bangladesh-like situation in India. Moreover, she alleged that dead bodies were found hanging and that rapes were occurring at the protest sites, which drew sharp criticism from BJP and even the Opposition raised serious questions against her due to her remarks which sparked a controversy.

Supreme Court States NRI Quota Expansion in Punjab is Against Education System

0

NEW DELHI: On Tuesday, the Supreme Court strongly criticized the expansion of the non-resident Indian (NRI) quota in Punjab’s medical colleges, labeling it a “fraud” that unfairly excludes more deserving students from the admission process.

A bench led by Chief Justice of India Dhananjaya Y Chandrachud rejected several petitions challenging a Punjab and Haryana high court decision that had annulled the Punjab government’s move to broaden the NRI quota to include distant relatives of NRIs.

“We need to put an end to this NRI quota practice! It’s outright fraud, and it’s damaging our education system,” the bench, which also included Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, remarked. They stressed that the NRI quota was being misused to bypass merit-based admissions.

The bench criticized the broad interpretation of NRI eligibility, which allowed distant relatives to qualify, calling it a “money-making scheme” that eroded the fairness of the education system.

“All three petitions are dismissed. Let’s close this chapter. This fraud must stop. The NRI quota is nothing but a scam. It ends here. What is a ward? You simply say ‘I’m looking after so-and-so.’ Look at the students with significantly higher scores who lost out. We cannot support something so blatantly illegal,” the bench added.

The court’s sharp criticism followed a Punjab government notification from August 20, which expanded the definition of “NRI candidates” to include relatives like uncles, aunts, grandparents, and cousins. This move was overturned by the Punjab and Haryana high court on September 11, which deemed the expansion “unjustified” and against the original intent of the NRI quota, which was to offer genuine NRIs a chance to study in India.

During the hearing, senior advocate Shadan Farasat argued that a broader interpretation of the NRI quota was already in use in states like Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. However, the Supreme Court dismissed these arguments, reaffirming that expanding the definition undermined merit and allowed less qualified candidates to gain admission through financial influence and connections rather than academic achievement.

Senior advocate Abhimanyu Bhandari, who represented the original petitioner challenging the notification in the high court, noted that the 2005 PA Inamdar judgment by a constitution bench had already disapproved of using the NRI quota as a means for people to buy their way into institutions.

Agreeing with Bhandari, the bench emphasized that the NRI quota should be strictly reserved for genuine NRIs and that merit should not be compromised.

OceanGate CEO Claimed Titan Submersible Dive was the ‘Safest Thing Ever’

0

Court documents have disclosed that Stockton Rush, the CEO and co-founder of OceanGate who perished in the tragic Titan submersible accident in June of last year, had insisted on personally participating in test dives. He claimed it was “one of the safest things I will ever do” and wanted to be onboard in case “anything happens.”

Released by the US Coast Guard as part of their ongoing investigation into the 2023 disaster, the documents reveal Rush’s communications with employees prior to the fatal dive, many of whom had raised concerns about the submersible’s safety.

The Titan, which was en route to the Titanic wreck in the North Atlantic, imploded during its journey, killing all five passengers, including Rush.

“I don’t want to risk anybody else”
Years before the ill-fated voyage, Rush insisted on piloting the submersible himself to mitigate any risk to others, according to OceanGate co-founder Guillermo Sohnlein. Rush reportedly said, “If anything happens, I want it to only impact me. It’s my design. I trust it, but I don’t want to put anyone else at risk, so I’ll go alone.”

Sohnlein, who left the company in 2013, added that Rush had insisted on making the 4,000-meter dive solo.

“No one is dying under my watch”
While Sohnlein portrayed Rush as a courageous and positive leader, former operations director David Lochridge described him in starkly different terms. Lochridge claimed that Rush was focused on profits and lacked the necessary experience, even panicking during a previous dive. Lochridge said he had raised safety concerns about the submersible’s design, but Rush dismissed them and insisted on piloting the vessel.

Lochridge quoted Rush as saying, “I’m not dying. No one is dying under my watch. I’ve got a granddaughter, and I’m going to be around. I know the risks, and this is one of the safest things I’ll ever do.”

After raising his concerns, Lochridge said he was fired and later brought his case to the US Occupational Safety and Health Administration, but OceanGate’s legal team pressured him into dropping it. He believes that if the company had been thoroughly investigated, the Titan disaster could have been avoided.

The ongoing inquiry, which is expected to conclude this week, involves the US Coast Guard reviewing testimony from technical experts and crew members to determine the causes of the submersible’s failure.

Ex-WWE Boss Slams Netflix for Ruining his Image

0

Former WWE chairman Vince McMahon has spoken out for the first time following allegations of sexual abuse and trafficking from a former employee, criticizing Netflix for misrepresenting him in the upcoming docuseries Mr. McMahon. The show, set to premiere worldwide on September 25, raised concerns among WWE fans after the release of its trailer, which highlights McMahon’s various controversies, including the infamous steroid trials and his most recent legal troubles. The two-minute-and-fifteen-second trailer caught the attention of McMahon himself just days before the show’s release.

While McMahon remains pleased to be part of the project, he expressed frustration with how Netflix has portrayed him in the promotional material. The six-part series, each episode an hour long, chronicles McMahon’s 50-year career, detailing his rise as the dominant force in professional wrestling promotion. Despite the anticipation among wrestling fans, McMahon made it clear he was unhappy with Netflix’s portrayal of him.

“I don’t regret participating in this Netflix documentary. The producers had the chance to tell an objective story about my life and the incredible business I built, full of excitement, drama, fun, controversy, and life lessons. But unfortunately, based on the early cut I’ve seen, the documentary falls short, taking the predictable route of blending the ‘Mr. McMahon’ character with the real me, Vince McMahon. The title and promos make that clear,” McMahon posted on X, marking his first activity on the platform since April of last year.

McMahon further claimed, “Much has been misrepresented or entirely omitted, seemingly to confuse viewers intentionally. The producers use typical editing tricks with out-of-context footage and outdated soundbites to craft a deceptive narrative. They even use a lawsuit stemming from an affair I ended as evidence to support the idea that I am, in fact, ‘Mr. McMahon.’ I hope viewers will keep an open mind and remember that there are two sides to every story.”

What to Expect from the Docuseries

In his post, McMahon urged the audience to watch the full series before drawing conclusions. Following a controversial incident earlier this year, McMahon stepped down from his role and, in the scripted world of professional wrestling (kayfabe), was “banished” from WWE, likely never to return. The series will delve into McMahon’s roller-coaster career, from the struggles of WWE during the Monday Night Wars to its transformation into a global entertainment powerhouse.

BookMyShow Goes After ‘Fake Tickets’ For Coldplay Concerts in India

0

On Sunday, British rock band Coldplay added a third show to the Mumbai stop of their 2025 Music Of The Spheres World Tour, following “phenomenal demand.” This announcement came after fans voiced frustration over long virtual queues on BookMyShow while trying to secure tickets. In response, the ticketing platform released a new statement condemning ticket scalping and distancing itself from unauthorized sellers. BookMyShow also confirmed that a police complaint had been filed regarding the issue.

BookMyShow on Ticket Reselling Platforms

BookMyShow’s website and app faced technical issues due to overwhelming traffic, which limited ticket availability for Coldplay’s January 2025 shows in India. Adding to the frustration, tickets were being resold at inflated prices on platforms like Viagogo and Gigsberg, with resellers charging far above face value.

On Tuesday, BookMyShow issued a fresh statement on X, strongly condemning ticket scalping and disassociating itself from unauthorized sellers. The platform urged fans to avoid purchasing from these sources, warning of potential counterfeit tickets and financial loss. It reiterated its commitment to fighting ticket scalping and mentioned that a police complaint had already been filed.

In the official statement, BookMyShow emphasized, “We have no affiliation with any ticket selling/reselling platforms such as Viagogo and Gigsberg, or any third-party individuals reselling tickets for Coldplay’s Music Of The Spheres World Tour 2025 in India.”

Scalping Condemned and Punishable by Law

The statement added, “Scalping is strictly condemned and is punishable by law in India. We have filed a complaint with the police and will fully support their investigation. We advise customers not to fall prey to these scams, as tickets bought from unauthorized sources may be counterfeit. Beware of such scammers.”

Since the announcement of Coldplay’s India tour dates—January 18, 19, and 21, 2025, at Mumbai’s DY Patil Sports Stadium—fans have rushed to secure tickets, leading to widespread complaints on social media about server crashes and long wait times. Even celebrities like filmmaker Karan Johar reportedly faced difficulties obtaining tickets, providing a small consolation for disappointed fans.

Iran Delivered 15,000 SMS to Swedish Citizens Plotting Revenge For Quran Burnings

0

Swedish prosecutors on Tuesday accused Iran’s intelligence service of hacking a text messaging operator in 2023 to distribute messages urging revenge against individuals involved in Koran-burning protests.

According to Sweden’s Prosecution Authority, around 15,000 messages inciting retaliation against those responsible for desecrating the Koran were sent during the summer of 2023, following a wave of such protests.

“The goal was to sow discord within Swedish society,” the authority stated.

In a separate release, Sweden’s intelligence service, Sapo, revealed that the hacker group responsible for the breach had acted “on behalf of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard as part of an influence campaign.”

“The objective was to portray Sweden as an Islamophobic nation,” said Fredrik Hallstrom, Sapo’s chief of operations.

In August 2023, following a series of Koran-burning protests, Sapo raised the national threat level to four out of five, citing Sweden as a “prioritized target.”

The protests, which peaked during the summer of 2023, strained relations between Sweden and several Middle Eastern countries. In July, Iraqi protesters twice stormed the Swedish embassy in Baghdad, setting fires on the second occasion.

While the Swedish government condemned the desecrations, it emphasized the nation’s constitutionally protected rights to freedom of speech and assembly.
