Ekta Kapoor’s production house, ALTBalaji Telefilms, has issued a clarification following a complaint filed against the company and its producers, Ekta and Shobha Kapoor, for allegedly depicting obscene scenes involving minor girls.
Why POSCO Act filed against Ekta Kapoor’s ALTBalaji Telefilms?
The complaint, lodged in connection with an episode from the sixth season of the web series ‘Gandi Baat’, which aired on ALTBalaji between February and April 2021, alleged that the series featured explicit content involving underage girls.
The controversial episode has since been removed from the platform.
ALTBalaji Telefilms denies the claim
In a statement released on Tuesday, ALTBalaji denied any wrongdoing, asserting that the company is fully compliant with all applicable laws, including the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The statement read, “With reference to various media reports regarding the Web Series – ‘Gandi Baat’, ALT Digital Media Entertainment Ltd. (‘Company’) hereby clarifies that it is fully compliant with all applicable laws including the POCSO Act and any references to the engagement of minors by the Company is entirely incorrect.”
No involvement of Ekta Kapoor & mother Shobha
The statement also clarified that Shobha and Ekta Kapoor are not involved in the day-to-day operations of the company and that the content strategy is managed by separate teams.
“The Company has complete faith in the judiciary and is fully cooperating with the authorities in the investigation “It is further clarified that Mrs Shobha Kapoor and Ms Ekta R Kapoor are not involved in the day-to-day operations of the Company and the same are managed by separate teams, including its content strategy. The Company has complete faith in the judiciary and is fully cooperating with the authorities in the investigation. Since the matter is sub-judice, the Company refrains from commenting in detail,” the statement concluded.
While the company maintains its innocence, reports suggest that Ekta and Shobha Kapoor are expected to appear for questioning on October 24, as per Mumbai Police.
