‘No shoulder injury, Do some homework’: Shreyas Iyer calls out Internet Hoax

Cricket star Shreyas Iyer turned social media fact-checker Wednesday, swiftly dismissing rumours about a shoulder injury keeping him out of Mumbai’s upcoming Ranji Trophy clash against Tripura. The middle-order maestro wasn’t about to let fake news slide down the leg side.

Shreyas Iyer reacts to fake injury news

“Guys seriously let’s do some homework before publishing news,” Iyer posted on X, responding to reports claiming a shoulder setback was behind his absence.

The social media account that started the rumour promptly issued an apology, proving even digital cricket commentators sometimes need to check their line and length.

According to PTI, the real story is far less dramatic: Iyer has simply requested some personal time off from the Mumbai senior men’s selection committee, which the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has granted. After all, even cricket warriors need a strategic timeout!

Shreyas Iyer & his records

The 29-year-old batting dynamo has been in impressive form this season, featuring in all three domestic games for Mumbai. His recent achievements include contributing to Mumbai’s historic Irani Cup victory after a 27-year wait, where he scored 57 and 8. Last week, he hammered a match-winning 142 against Maharashtra in the Ranji Trophy Group A encounter, helping Mumbai secure their first victory of the season.

Despite his recent form suggesting he’s fit as a fiddle, Iyer has decided to give his body some well-deserved rest after an intense domestic cricket schedule. It’s worth noting that this break isn’t about any injury concerns – just a professional athlete managing his workload with the precision of a well-timed cover drive.

The Mumbai-Tripura match is scheduled for October 26-29, and while Iyer won’t be padding up for this one, he’s made it clear: he’s just taking a break, not nursing any injuries!
