Amazon Great Indian Festive Sale: E-commerce giant Amazon has increased commissions for over 50,000 creators in its influencer marketing network to bolster sales during the upcoming festive season.

Amazon increases commissions of content creators

In a statement, Amazon India revealed that payouts for “active” creators across categories like fashion, beauty, home, and toys will increase by 1.5 to 2 times under the revised structure. Commissions for fashion and luggage categories have been hiked from 5% to 9%, while sports equipment commissions have jumped from 2.5% to 7.5%.

Additionally, the company is offering “target-linked incentives” of up to 15% for influencers who drive significant sales. Amazon’s director of shopping initiatives, Zahid Khan, emphasized the company’s commitment to providing creators with the tools and incentives they need to succeed, stating – “By significantly increasing commission rates across key categories and offering additional resources through programs like Creator University and Creator Connect, we’re providing creators with the tools and incentives they need to thrive during the festive season and beyond…,” said Amazon’s director of shopping initiatives for India and emerging markets Zahid Khan.

Will Amazon lure more users through content creators?

By leveraging the fan base of these content creators, Amazon aims to attract more users to its platform. This move comes ahead of the company’s annual flagship sale, the Great Indian Festival, which begins on September 27. Prime subscribers will get early access to the sale on September 26.

In its battle for dominance in the Indian e-commerce market with Flipkart, Amazon has introduced several new offerings and incentives. The company has recently launched three new fulfilment centres and reduced selling fees for merchants. It has also fully rolled out its AI chatbot, Rufus, in India.

Is Amazon under scrutiny by CCI?

Amazon India has faced leadership challenges and regulatory hurdles in recent months. Samir Kumar took over as the head of India operations following Manish Tiwary’s exit. The company has also been under scrutiny by the Competition Commission of India (CCI) for allegedly violating antitrust norms. The CCI has directed Amazon to provide turnover details to determine the penalty amount for these violations.

As Amazon continues to navigate the competitive Indian e-commerce landscape, the company’s efforts to boost influencer marketing and offer new incentives demonstrate its commitment to driving growth and staying ahead of the competition.

HC Denies CM Siddaramahia’s Plea Challenging Prosecution

The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday rejected Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s petition challenging Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot’s decision to permit his prosecution in connection with a case involving the Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) land allotment. Siddaramaiah argued that the governor’s sanction was politically motivated.

Justice M. Nagaprasanna stated that Gehlot had granted the sanction in accordance with the law, following complaints from activists TJ Abraham, Snehamai Krishna, and Pradeep Kumar SP. While the governor typically acts on the advice of the council of ministers, the Constitution allows for independent decision-making in special circumstances.

“The complainants were justified in pursuing their complaint and seeking the Governor’s approval. Normally, the Governor must act with the aid and advice of the Council of Ministers as per Article 163 of the Constitution of India. However, in exceptional situations, the Governor can exercise independent judgment,” the court noted. Siddaramaiah’s case was deemed one such exception, and the court ruled that there was no fault in the Governor’s independent discretion to issue the order. It further stated that any interim orders related to the case would no longer be valid.

A plea in a Bengaluru court requesting a First Information Report (FIR) against Siddaramaiah had been on hold pending the high court’s decision. On August 16, Gehlot sanctioned Siddaramaiah’s prosecution under the Prevention of Corruption Act and Section 218 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, which deals with the prosecution of judges and public servants.

The case revolves around a three-acre plot gifted by Siddaramaiah’s brother-in-law, Mallikarjuna Swamy, to his sister, Parvathi. Parvathi received compensation for improper development on the land, which included 14 alternate plots—much more valuable than the original three acres—under a MUDA scheme.

Will AI Replace Humans? OpenAI CEO Altman Says “No”

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman

Sam Altman, the visionary CEO of OpenAI, has shared his thoughts on the future of artificial intelligence (AI) and its impact on the job market and society at large. In a recent blog post, Altman painted a picture of gradual but profound change, dispelling fears of sudden mass unemployment while emphasizing the need for careful management of AI’s potential.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman’s stance on AI

Altman believes that AI will reshape labour markets, but not as rapidly as some predict. “Most jobs will change more slowly than most people think, and I have no fear that we’ll run out of things to do,” he states. This perspective suggests a future where AI complements human skills rather than entirely replacing them, allowing people to focus on more creative and meaningful work.

Drawing historical parallels, Altman notes that many of today’s jobs would seem trivial to someone from centuries ago. He argues that society has always adapted to technological shifts, and AI will be no different. “People have an innate desire to create and to be useful to each other,” Altman says, suggesting that AI will open up new avenues for human contribution.

Will AI transform society?

Beyond employment, Altman envisions AI transforming various aspects of society. He foresees AI-powered virtual tutors providing personalized education “in any subject, in any language, and at whatever pace they need.” He also anticipates AI’s role in addressing global challenges like climate change and advancing scientific discoveries.

Altman’s optimism extends to the potential for shared prosperity in an AI-driven future. He believes that “everyone’s lives can be better than anyone’s life is now.” However, he cautions that careful management is necessary to avoid exacerbating inequalities. A key concern is ensuring widespread access to AI and the computing power it requires. “If we don’t build enough infrastructure, AI will be a very limited resource that wars get fought over,” he warns.

Does AI need deep learning?

The CEO attributes recent AI advancements to progress in deep learning. “Deep learning worked, got predictably better with scale, and we dedicated increasing resources to it,” he explains, suggesting that this development could be one of the most significant in human history.

Looking ahead, Altman anticipates continued improvements in AI capabilities, leading to breakthroughs once considered science fiction. From revolutionizing software development to enhancing healthcare systems, he sees AI’s potential as nearly limitless.

Is AI a powerful tool to amplify human potential or end workforce?

However, Altman acknowledges that the transition to what he calls the “Intelligence Age” will come with challenges. He emphasizes the need for careful planning to maximize AI’s benefits while addressing its risks, particularly regarding social and economic changes.

In essence, Altman’s message is one of cautious optimism. He views AI as a powerful tool that can amplify human potential and usher in unprecedented prosperity. However, he stresses that realizing this potential requires proactive steps to manage risks and ensure the equitable distribution of AI’s benefits across society.

Max Verstappen Threatens to Quit After F1 Controversy

The Formula One World Championship is intensifying, as Red Bull and Max Verstappen face recent challenges, while Lando Norris and McLaren are making a strong push up the Drivers’ and Constructors’ standings. Amidst these developments, an unexpected controversy has emerged with the sport’s governing body, the FIA, enforcing a new rule against swearing, catching the teams and fans off guard.

Just when rivalries could have heated up between championship contenders, the FIA’s decision to penalize reigning champion Max Verstappen for swearing during a press conference has actually brought the drivers together in opposition.

The Incident:
On September 19, ahead of the Singapore Grand Prix, Verstappen used foul language while discussing his car’s performance during the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, where he had finished fifth. The next day, he was summoned by the stewards and, after a brief 13-minute hearing, was punished for using language that the rules consider “coarse, rude, or likely to cause offence.” As part of his punishment, Verstappen is required to complete an unspecified “public interest” task.

In response, Verstappen protested by giving curt, monosyllabic answers in the post-qualification press conference in Singapore. When asked about what had improved in the car since Azerbaijan, he simply replied, “No, I might get fined,” referring to the FIA’s action. He later finished second in the Singapore race.

Outside the FIA-organized press conference, Verstappen spoke more openly in other interviews. When asked if conflicts like this could impact his future in Formula One, the 26-year-old was clear: “For sure, yeah. These things definitely influence my future. When you can’t be yourself and have to deal with these silly things, it’s really exhausting. At this stage in my career, I don’t want to be dealing with this constantly.”

The FIA’s Position:
A week before the Singapore race, FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem announced that the organization would be stricter in limiting the use of profanity by drivers during race weekends. However, Ben Sulayem’s own comments sparked backlash, as he compared the language used in motorsport to that in rap music, saying, “We have to differentiate between motorsport and rap music. We’re not rappers. They say the f-word how many times per minute? That’s them, and we are [us].”

In response, seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton accused Ben Sulayem of invoking a “racial element” by referencing rap artists in his remarks.

Asha Bhosle: Is ‘Boredom’ Killing Relationships, Resulting in Divorce?

During an interaction with spiritual leader Ravi Shankar, veteran singer Asha Bhosle expressed her concern over the increasing divorce rates among the younger generation. Bhosle questioned why so many young couples lose love and interest in each other so quickly.

Veteran singer Asha Bhosle raises concerns over divorce

Drawing from her own experiences, the 91-year-old singer shared that she and her husband, RD Burman, faced their share of disagreements, but the thought of divorce never crossed her mind. “I never divorced my husband,” she said. “However, nowadays, I hear about couples sending divorce papers every month. Why is this happening, Gurudev?”

Ravi Shankar responded, “You kept singing and made everyone happy. You also had faith in God and the strength to tolerate and deal with troubles.” He noted that today’s people lack the same level of tolerance.

Does love fade quickly among couples in today’s world?

Bhosle observed that the love between young couples seems to fade quickly, leading to boredom and ultimately, divorce, saying, “I have spent most of my years in the film industry and seen many people, but earlier, they never used to take such drastic steps as the current generation does. I feel that the love between them ends very soon, and they get bored with each other quickly too. Maybe that’s one of the main reasons for the apparent increase in divorces.”

Shankar agreed, suggesting that attraction has taken precedence over love in modern times.

Interestingly, Asha Bhosle herself had experienced divorce earlier in her life. She married Ganpatrao Bhosle, Lata Mangeshkar’s secretary, at the age of 16, against her family’s wishes. The couple divorced in 1960. She later married RD Burman in 1980 and remained with him until his death in 1994.

What’s Ravi Shankar’s opinion on women’s rights?

During her interaction with Ravi Shankar, Bhosle also shared her views on women’s rights. She emphasized that women should have the choice to opt out of pregnancy if they desire. She recalled her own experiences as a working mother, successfully raising three children while pursuing a demanding career.

Is Asha Bhosle an ‘ideal’ example of today’s women?

Ravi Shankar praised Bhosle as an “ideal” example for today’s women. With a career spanning over seven decades, Asha Bhosle has sung over 12,000 songs, leaving an indelible mark on the Indian music industry, some of them are “Piya Tu Ab To Aaja” and “O Haseena Zulfon Wali,” to soulful ghazals like “Dil Cheez Kya Hai” and the classical “Tora Man Darpan Kehlaye.”
