PM Modi Debuts PARAM Rudra Supercomputers Developed in India

0

Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated three PARAM Rudra supercomputers on Thursday, marking a significant milestone in India’s pursuit of scientific and technological progress under the National Supercomputing Mission (NSM).

The supercomputers, developed domestically at a cost of ₹130 crore, have been installed in Pune, Delhi, and Kolkata to advance research across a wide range of scientific fields.

“There is no sector that does not rely on technology and computing capability,” Modi stated. “Our contribution to this revolution should not be in bits and bytes but in terabytes and petabytes. This achievement shows that we are progressing in the right direction at the right speed,” he added.

As part of India’s strategy to achieve self-reliance in high-performance computing (HPC), the PARAM Rudra supercomputers will support advanced research in various scientific disciplines.

In Pune, the Giant Metre Radio Telescope (GMRT) will utilize the new system to study astronomical phenomena like Fast Radio Bursts (FRBs). In Delhi, the Inter-University Accelerator Centre (IUAC) will use it to advance research in material science and atomic physics. Meanwhile, the S N Bose Centre in Kolkata will focus on research in physics, cosmology, and earth sciences.

“With PARAM Rudra supercomputers and HPC systems, India takes a significant step towards self-reliance in computing, driving innovation in science and technology,” Modi posted on X.

The National Supercomputing Mission, a joint initiative of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and the Department of Science and Technology (DST), aims to establish a nationwide network of advanced computing systems.

Modi emphasized that these supercomputers are not only a testament to technological advancement but also play a crucial role in meeting the aspirations of the “last person” in society.

Although the Prime Minister initially planned to visit Pune for the launch, his trip was canceled due to heavy rains. He was also scheduled to flag off a Metro train line and launch development projects worth ₹22,600 crore.

Karnataka Govt Says ‘CBI is Biased’ and Withdraws General Consent

0

The Karnataka government on Thursday withdrew the general consent granted to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to probe cases in the state, accusing the agency of being “biased.”

The decision was announced by the state’s law and parliamentary affairs minister, HK Patil, following a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

“The notification granting general consent to the CBI to investigate criminal cases in Karnataka under the Delhi Special Police Establishment Act, 1946, has been withdrawn,” said Patil.

Under the law, the CBI requires consent from the respective state governments to carry out investigations within their jurisdiction.

“This decision was made because it’s evident that the CBI or the central government is not judiciously using their powers. Consent for CBI investigations will now be granted on a case-by-case basis,” Patil explained, as reported by PTI. He clarified that the move was not aimed at protecting the CM in the MUDA case.

“Regarding the CM, a court order has mandated a Lokayukta investigation, so there’s no question of shielding him,” he added.

Patil further alleged that the CBI had been misused in several cases, particularly citing the agency’s failure to file chargesheets in many Karnataka cases.

“They (CBI) refused to file chargesheets and investigate numerous mining cases,” he stated.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, meanwhile, dismissed calls for his resignation amid allegations linked to the MUDA scam.

“I will not resign; why should I? Allegations were made against HD Kumaraswamy; did he resign? Let Kumaraswamy resign. Has Modi asked for Kumaraswamy’s resignation?” said the CM.

Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar also weighed in, describing the controversy as a “political drama.”

“There are many cases against several central ministers and BJP leaders. Have they all resigned? There is no reason for the CM to step down. As party president, I can assure you, the CM will not resign,” Shivakumar said.

50 Cent is Allegedly Producing a Series on Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs

0

Netflix has announced a new docuseries about the serious allegations and criminal charges against Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, with Curtis ‘50 Cent’ Jackson serving as producer, according to Variety.

The series is being produced under 50 Cent’s G-Unit Film & Television, with contributions from Stapleton’s House of Nonfiction and Texas Crew Productions.

The docuseries, directed by Alexandria Stapleton, will explore accusations against Combs, including sex trafficking, racketeering, sexual assault, and violent abuse. It is currently in production. In a joint statement with Stapleton, 50 Cent told Variety, “This is a story with significant human impact. It is a complex narrative spanning decades, beyond the headlines or clips seen so far. We are committed to giving a voice to the voiceless and presenting authentic, nuanced perspectives.”

The statement also noted, “While the allegations are disturbing, it is important to remember that Sean Combs’ story is not the entirety of hip-hop and its culture. We aim to ensure that individual actions do not overshadow the culture’s broader contributions.”

The series was first hinted at in December when 50 Cent posted a clip on X (formerly Twitter) featuring Bad Boy Records rapper Mark Curry, who claimed that Combs would spike champagne at parties before women drank it. At that time, Combs had been sued by four women, including his ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura, whose lawsuit he quickly settled.

The exact release date of the docuseries has not been revealed, but it is expected to debut in early 2025. Combs’ legal issues have since intensified, with his recent arrest in New York on multiple charges, including racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking by force, fraud, coercion, and transporting individuals for prostitution. Combs pleaded not guilty and remains in custody after being denied bail twice.

Additional lawsuits have surfaced, including claims from a model who alleged Combs drugged and assaulted her in 2003, and allegations of verbal abuse and sexual battery from former Danity Kane singer Dawn Richard. Combs has denied all allegations, stating, “Sickening allegations have been made against me by individuals seeking a quick payday… I will fight for my name, my family, and the truth.”

How to Store Raw Meat in Freezer Correctly

Raw Meat

Storing raw meat in your freezer can be a lifesaver, providing you with a ready supply of ingredients for meals. However, improper storage can lead to foodborne illnesses or simply wasted food. By following these simple guidelines, you can ensure your meat stays safe and delicious for months to come.

1. Airtight Packaging is Key

To prevent freezer burn, which can dry out and discolour meat, it’s essential to wrap it tightly in airtight packaging. Freezer-safe bags or containers are ideal, as they can be sealed to minimize air exposure. For extra protection, consider using a vacuum sealer to remove all air before sealing.

2. Label and Date

Keep track of your frozen meat by labelling packages with the date you stored them. This helps you rotate your stock and ensures you use older meat first. While meat can generally stay fresh in the freezer for up to six months, it’s always a good idea to check its quality before cooking.

3. Cut Raw Meat Before Freezing

If you’re not planning to use the entire piece of meat at once, cut it into smaller portions before freezing. This allows you to thaw only what you need, reducing waste and maintaining freshness. It’s also convenient for meal-prepping or preparing dishes like kebabs or stir-fries.

4. Maintain Proper Freezer Temperature

A consistently cold freezer is crucial for preserving meat. Set your freezer to -18°C or lower to ensure bacteria and germs don’t grow. A higher temperature can compromise the quality and safety of your meat.

5. Avoid Refreezing

Once meat has been thawed, it should not be refrozen. Thawing can cause moisture loss, and refreezing can lead to a loss of texture, flavour, and safety. If you need to refreeze meat, cook it first and then freeze the cooked product.

6. Use Freezer-Safe Containers

For added protection, store meat in freezer-safe containers. Avoid using cheap plastic bags, as they may not be as durable or airtight. Containers specifically designed for freezing are thicker and better at preventing air from entering.

By following these tips, you can confidently store raw meat in your freezer and enjoy delicious, safe meals for months to come. Remember, proper storage is essential for preserving the quality and safety of your food.

Joe Biden Forgot He is in NYC While Addressing World Leaders

0

In his latest slip-up, Joe Biden mistakenly welcomed world leaders to Washington while speaking in Midtown Manhattan on Wednesday, September 25. “Thank you, thank you, thank you. Welcome to Washington,” said the 81-year-old president at the InterContinental New York Barclay Hotel, located just a short walk north of the Chrysler Building.

Biden then continued with his speech, seemingly unaware of his error. “Fellow leaders, friends, for 944 days [Russian President Vladimir] Putin has waged his vicious onslaught against Ukraine,” he said at the event, where Western leaders gathered to reaffirm their support for Kyiv.

Despite criticism, Biden rejected calls for his resignation, even from some within his own party. The oldest president in U.S. history, Biden ended his bid for a second term on July 21, following a poor debate performance against 78-year-old Donald Trump, and threw his support behind Kamala Harris. Before dropping out, Biden attempted to downplay concerns about his debate showing, stating in a campaign ad, “I know right from wrong. I know how to tell the truth. And I know, like millions of Americans know, when you get knocked down, you get back up.”

Calls for Biden’s resignation persisted, even from Democrats. House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) remarked in July, “If Joe Biden is not fit to run for President, he is not fit to serve as President. He must resign the office immediately.” Days later, Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (D-Wash.) expressed doubts about Biden’s health and fitness, stating, “I doubt the president’s judgment about his health, his fitness to do the job, and whether he is the one making important decisions about our country, rather than unelected advisers. Americans deserve to feel their president is fit enough to do the job.”

Ex-Madrid Star Says ‘Ronaldo doesn’t know how to play Football’

0

Former Italy and Real Madrid forward Antonio Cassano has criticized Portuguese legend Cristiano Ronaldo, stating that while Ronaldo may score numerous goals, he “doesn’t know how to play football.” Cassano, who retired in 2017, played for Real Madrid briefly from 2006 to 2008, leaving just a year before Ronaldo’s world-record transfer from Manchester United.

Ronaldo went on to become Real Madrid’s all-time leading scorer, netting an impressive 450 goals in 458 appearances during his nine seasons in the Spanish capital. Recently, at 39 years old, he celebrated his 900th goal for club and country. On the Viva El Futbol podcast, Cassano remarked, “Cristiano Ronaldo doesn’t know how to play football.”

He further expressed that he considers players like Sergio Aguero, Robert Lewandowski, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Luis Suarez, and Ronaldo’s former Real Madrid teammate Karim Benzema superior due to their ability to link up with teammates. “He could score 3,000 goals; I don’t care. [Gonzalo] Higuain, [Sergio] Aguero, [Karim] Benzema, [Robert] Lewandowski, [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic, and [Luis] Suarez knew how to connect with the team. They could do a lot of things, unlike Ronaldo, whose sole objective has always been to score,” he said.

In other news, Ronaldo helped Al-Nassr start well under new manager Stefano Pioli, scoring the opening goal in a 3-0 victory over Ettifaq. Ronaldo, who missed Al-Nassr’s 1-1 draw in the AFC Champions League Elite against Iraq’s Al-Shorta due to a viral infection, found the net from the penalty spot after 33 minutes, marking his third goal of the season. In the second half, Salem Al-Najdi and Anderson Talisca added to the scoreline. This defeat was Ettifaq’s first of the season, but they remained in third place, while Al-Nassr moved up to fourth.

India Pushes Citizens to Leave Lebanon Amid Israel Conflict

0

India has once again urged its citizens to leave Lebanon following reports that Israel is mobilizing troops for a potential invasion of the country.

In an updated advisory issued on Wednesday, the Indian embassy in Beirut strongly recommended that Indian nationals refrain from traveling to Lebanon “in light of recent developments and escalations in the region.”

“All Indian nationals currently in Lebanon are also strongly advised to exit the country. Those who remain for any reason should exercise extreme caution, limit their movements, and stay in touch with the Embassy of India in Beirut via email at cons.beirut@mea.gov.in or the emergency phone number +96176860128,” the advisory stated.

This updated advisory comes as Israel continues its assaults on Lebanon, resulting in over 620 deaths and thousands of injuries. Israel’s military chief, Herzi Halevi, has informed troops that airstrikes will persist to target Hezbollah’s infrastructure and prepare for a potential ground offensive.

According to the Indian embassy in Beirut, there are nearly 4,000 Indian nationals in Lebanon, most of whom work in companies, the construction sector, and agricultural farms.

Indian Army personnel have been deployed with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) since November 1998. On August 1, the Indian embassy issued an advisory urging citizens to leave Lebanon due to “potential threats in the region,” which arose from heightened tensions following the killings of leaders from Hamas and Hezbollah.

Kangana’s ‘Emergency’ Gets a Reality Check: Court Says ‘Film Can be Release Only if…’

Emergency

In a plot twist worthy of Bollywood itself, actor-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut‘s latest cinematic venture, “Emergency,” finds itself in a real-life drama with the Censor Board playing the role of tough critic.

Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency gets censorship?

The Bombay High Court heard on Thursday that Ranaut’s film, a biographical political thriller about former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s controversial 21-month Emergency period, could finally see the light of day – but only after going under the censor’s scissors.

Zee Studios, the film’s co-producer, eagerly awaiting their censor certificate, was handed a document outlining 11 modifications. It’s like a director’s cut but with the Censor Board as the unexpected director!

How does Emergency land into controversy?

Meanwhile, Sikh organizations have been raising their voices louder than a Punjabi wedding, concerned about their community’s portrayal and the film’s historical accuracy. They’re calling for a complete ban, turning up the heat on this political potboiler.

Adding fuel to the fire, Ranaut’s recent off-screen performance – her controversial comments about farmers’ protests and farm laws – has earned her boos from her own party, the BJP. Talk about a tough audience!

When is the next hearing?

The High Court, playing the role of a patient mediator, has adjourned the matter to September 30. Will Ranaut make the cuts? Will the film see a theatrical release? Or will it end up as the most expensive home movie ever made?

As the suspense builds, one thing’s for sure – in the world of Kangana Ranaut, there’s never a dull moment. Whether on screen or off, she continues to be the queen of controversy, keeping audiences, politicians, and censors on the edge of their seats. Stay tuned for the next episode of this real-life political drama!

Here’s what S Jaishankar said on India-China relations – Key Points inside

0
Jaishankar
Jaishankar on Indo-China ties

In a recent address at the ‘India, Asia and the World’ event in New York, India’s External Affairs Minister, Dr S. Jaishankar, provided insights into the current state of India-China relations, emphasizing the significance of this relationship for Asia and the world at large.

Key Points from S Jaishankar’s Address:

1. Global Significance:

Dr Jaishankar underscored the importance of India-China relations, stating, “I think the India-China relationship is key to the future of Asia. In a way, you can say that if the world is to be multi-polar, Asia has to be multi-polar. And therefore this relationship will influence not just the future of Asia, but in that way, perhaps the future of the world as well.”

2. Historical Context:

The minister acknowledged the “difficult history” between the two nations, highlighting their unique position as billion-plus population countries with overlapping peripheries and a common border.

3. Border Disengagement:

Referring to recent progress, Dr Jaishankar mentioned, “When I said 75 per cent of it has been sorted out – I was asked in a way to quantify – it’s only of the disengagement. So that’s one part of the problem. The main issue right now is the patrolling.”

4. Patrolling Issues:

He elaborated on the challenges post-2020: “You know, how do we, both of us, patrol up to the Line of Actual Control.” The minister noted that while much of the disengagement has been sorted out, patrolling issues remain unresolved.

5. De-escalation:

Beyond disengagement, Dr Jaishankar pointed out the need for de-escalation, given the large number of troops deployed by both sides at the border.

6. Border Dispute:

“The entire 3500 kilometre-border between India and China is disputed,” the minister stated, emphasizing the need to maintain peace along the border to allow other aspects of the relationship to progress.

7. 2020 Galwan Incident:

He recounted the events of 2020, saying, “Now the problem was in 2020, despite these very explicit agreements, we saw that the Chinese – we were all in the middle of Covid at that time – moved a large number of forces in violation of these agreements to the Line of Actual Control. And we responded in kind.”

8. Impact on Relations:

The minister acknowledged the profound impact of the Galwan clash on bilateral relations: “So there was a clash, and several troops died on either side, and that has since, in a sense, overshadowed the relationship. So until we can restore peace and tranquillity on the border and ensure the agreements signed up to are adhered to, it’s difficult to carry on with the rest of the relationship.”

9. Current Focus:

The foreign minister also outlined the priority for the past four years: “The focus for the last four years had been to at least disengage the troops, meaning that they go back to the camp, the military bases from which they traditionally operate. Because right now, both sides have troops deployed forward.”

In conclusion, Dr Jaishankar’s remarks provide a comprehensive overview of the complex dynamics shaping India-China relations. While progress has been made in certain areas, particularly in disengagement, significant challenges remain. The minister’s emphasis on the global implications of this bilateral relationship underscores its importance not just for the two nations involved, but for regional and global stability.
