Mumbai: On the latest episode of ‘Koffee With Karan’, Alia Bhatt addressed the controversy over her husband Ranbir Kapoor being called ‘toxic’ online following her comments about him suggesting she ‘wipe off’ her lipstick.

During the show with Kareena Kapoor, Alia asserted that her words were taken out of context. She was hurt that Ranbir faced criticism over her candid remark made jokingly in an old interview.
When Karan Johar asked about the ‘wipe off’ lipstick comment that sparked toxicity debate, Alia explained she has a blunt way of speaking and was simply imitating Ranbir in a lighthearted manner.
But she realized later that her words were misinterpreted, leading to articles portraying Ranbir as ‘toxic’ and problematic.
“There are so many real issues to highlight rather than focus on something I said harmlessly in a different context,” Alia remarked.
She added that although the uncalled-for backlash upset her initially, she chose not to react publicly.
Previously, Ranbir had also addressed the controversy saying that while he felt bad, the larger goal of eliminating toxicity in society was more important.
On Koffee with Karan, Alia emphasized that her off-the-cuff remark wasn’t intended to portray Ranbir as toxic. She decried the unnecessary negativity around what was an innocuous comment.
