Mumbai: The makers of the Vijay Sethupathi-Katrina Kaif starrer ‘Merry Christmas’ have announced a new release date for the film, shifting it from December 8, 2022, to January 12, 2024.
In a joint statement, the producers said the decision to push the release was taken due to the packed slate of movies over the last two months of 2022.
The Sriram Raghavan directorial was earlier set to hit theaters alongside films like ‘Avatar 2’, ‘Cirkus’ and ‘Ganapath’ on December 8.
However, the official statement conveyed the team’s commitment to deliver an exceptional cinematic experience. Hence, they have moved ‘Merry Christmas’ to January 12, 2024, to avoid a clash with other major titles.
The production banner Tips Films confirmed the new date on Instagram, promising to make the winter of 2024 more joyful for fans.
Earlier, Raghavan had revealed plans to release Hindi and Tamil versions of the thriller. While the core story remains the same, the Tamil film will have a partially different cast to avoid seeming dubbed.
The director had shared his excitement about making the bilingual in an interview with News18 earlier this year.
Headlined by Sethupathi and Kaif, ‘Merry Christmas marks Raghavan’s return to the thriller genre after acclaimed films like ‘Ek Hasina Thi’ and ‘Badlapur’.
The new release date gives the makers more breathing room amid the cavalcade of year-end Bollywood releases.
