Aamir Khan has stirred controversy with his recent remarks about Swades, the critically acclaimed film starring Shah Rukh Khan. In an interview with Zoom, Aamir revealed that he had turned down the opportunity to work on the project, calling it “very boring”—a statement that hasn’t gone down well with fans of the film or Shah Rukh.

The actor said, “I found it very boring! I told Ashu [Ashutosh Gowariker] this when he narrated the story to me during Lagaan. Back then, it was titled Kaveri Amma.”

The internet swiftly responded, with fans defending Swades as a landmark in Indian cinema. Many lauded its storytelling, values, and emotional depth. One user on X (formerly Twitter) wrote, “This one scene in Swades has more meaning than Aamir Khan’s entire filmography. Every dialogue teaches you something about life.”

Another fan reacted more sharply: “I’ll be very happy if Sitaare Zameen Par flops. Aamir has gone too far in belittling SRK—despite Shah Rukh supporting his son’s debut and attending the premiere.”

Supporters of Swades emphasized the role of Shah Rukh Khan’s performance in the film’s enduring legacy. “If Aamir had done Swades, it would have been forgotten. SRK made it a cult classic. The film aged better than Lagaan and remains relevant even after 20 years,” one fan commented.

Directed by Ashutosh Gowariker, Swades was released in 2004 and is widely regarded as one of Shah Rukh Khan’s finest performances. It earned two National Awards and continues to resonate with audiences as a cinematic gem.

Meanwhile, Aamir Khan is gearing up for the release of Sitaare Zameen Par, directed by R.S. Prasanna, which is slated to hit theatres on June 20.

Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Bows Out of Upcoming G7 Meeting in Canada

DUBAI – Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince and de facto leader, Mohammed bin Salman (widely known as MBS), will not attend next week’s Group of Seven (G7) summit in Canada, according to a senior diplomat familiar with the matter, who spoke to Reuters on Thursday.

The diplomat stated that MBS provided no specific reason for declining the invitation to the annual summit, which will be held from June 15–17 in Kananaskis, located in the Canadian Rockies. While Saudi Arabia is not a G7 member, it has previously been invited as a guest participant.

The crown prince has kept a limited international travel schedule in recent years. He also declined to attend last year’s G7 meeting in Italy and postponed a visit to Japan due to concerns over the health of his father, King Salman.

Saudi Arabia’s government media office has not yet responded to a request for comment.

The Globe and Mail, which first reported MBS’s decision, suggested that his absence may ease internal tensions within Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney’s Liberal Party, where some lawmakers had opposed the invitation due to Saudi Arabia’s human rights record—an issue for which the kingdom has faced sustained international criticism, though it continues to deny allegations of abuse.

Leaders from countries including Ukraine, Mexico, India, Australia, South Africa, South Korea, and Brazil are expected to attend parts of the summit. U.S. President Donald Trump is also confirmed to participate.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday expressed deep sorrow over the Air India plane crash, calling the incident “heartbreaking beyond words.”

“The tragedy in Ahmedabad has left us shocked and saddened. It is truly beyond words. My thoughts are with all those affected during this difficult time. I am in constant contact with ministers and officials working on relief efforts,” he wrote on X.

What We Know So Far About the Air India Crash

A London-bound Air India flight carrying 242 people, including passengers and crew, crashed into a residential area in Ahmedabad shortly after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on Thursday afternoon. The incident has left many feared dead.

Dramatic visuals showed the Boeing 787 Dreamliner (flight AI171) plummeting rapidly and crashing into flames, with thick black smoke billowing into the sky.

The crash occurred in the Meghaninagar area around 2 pm, leading to a temporary suspension of airport operations in the city.

Onboard the aircraft were 169 Indian nationals, 53 British citizens, and one Canadian.

Several injured individuals have been admitted to the nearby civil hospital in Ahmedabad for treatment.

Prime Minister Modi has spoken with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu regarding the unfolding situation.

Air India Chairman N Chandrasekaran issued a statement confirming the activation of an emergency response center and the deployment of support teams to assist affected families.

“Our hearts go out to the families and loved ones impacted by this tragic event. Right now, our top priority is to support the victims and their families. We are coordinating with emergency teams at the site and providing every possible form of assistance,” he shared on X.

Civil Aviation Minister Naidu also expressed grief, stating that all relevant agencies are operating at the “highest alert.”

“Shocked and deeply saddened by the crash in Ahmedabad. I am closely monitoring the situation and have instructed all aviation and emergency response teams to act swiftly and in coordination. Rescue efforts are underway, and urgent medical aid is being rushed to the scene. My prayers are with everyone affected,” he posted on X.

Brother Alleges Sonam Raghuvanshi Murdered Raja: ‘I’m Certain—She Tied Rakhi to Raj Kushwaha’

Govind Raghuvanshi, the elder brother of Sonam Raghuvanshi, stated on Wednesday that he is “100 percent sure” his sister killed her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi, during their honeymoon in Meghalaya last month. He also revealed that Sonam used to tie a rakhi every year to Raj Kushwaha, the co-accused with whom she allegedly had an affair.

“According to the evidence found so far, I am 100% sure that she has committed this murder. All the accused in this case are related to Raj Kushwaha. We have broken our ties with Sonam Raghuvanshi. I apologise to Raja’s family,” Govind said while speaking to reporters in Indore.

Govind visited Raja’s family to offer condolences and later addressed the media, saying that if his sister is proven guilty, she should receive the death penalty. He added that his family has cut off all contact with Sonam and will now support Raja’s family in seeking justice.

“Sonam doesn’t consider herself guilty. There has been no contact… We have severed all ties with her… We will fight on behalf of Raja,” he said.

Govind also noted that Raj Kushwaha, the co-accused, used to call Sonam “didi” (elder sister), and for the past three years, she had tied him a rakhi—traditionally a symbol of a sibling bond.

The Meghalaya Honeymoon Murder Case

Sonam and Raja travelled to Meghalaya for their honeymoon in May. On May 23, the couple went missing. Raja’s body was discovered in a gorge on June 2. Last week, Sonam surfaced in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, claiming she had been drugged and kidnapped, a claim police have strongly rejected.

Raja’s brother, Vipin Raghuvanshi, told ANI that Govind had reached out to him, saying he wanted to confess that his sister had made a mistake. “He told me that his sister should be hanged for the mistake she made,” Vipin said.

Raj Kushwaha’s Mother Defends Her Son

Meanwhile, Raj Kushwaha’s mother claimed her son is innocent and being falsely implicated.

“My son cannot do anything like this. He is just 20 years old. He is my everything. He worked in Sonam’s brother’s factory. He is being falsely accused. I request the government to prove his innocence. He is innocent,” she said.

Elon Musk Admits ‘Going Too Far’ in Recent X Posts Targeting Donald Trump

Elon Musk

In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, Musk wrote:
“I regret some of my posts about President @realDonaldTrump last week. They went too far.”

The statement followed comments by Trump warning of “serious consequences” for Musk. These remarks were reportedly in response to speculation that Musk intended to back candidates opposing Trump-aligned Republicans in the upcoming midterm elections.
“If he does, he’ll have to pay the consequences for that,” Trump told NBC, without elaborating on the specifics.

When Did Musk and Trump Fall Out?

The rift began after Musk publicly criticized Trump’s legislative proposal known as the “One Big Beautiful Bill” (OBBB), describing it as a “disgusting abomination.” The bill aimed at large-scale tax cuts but was projected to add around USD 3 trillion (AUD 4.62 trillion) to the national debt. Musk, who had recently stepped down from his advisory role in the Department of Government Efficiency (DoGE), argued that the bill would saddle American citizens with “crushing, unsustainable debt.”

Trump retaliated by threatening to withdraw government subsidies and contracts linked to Musk’s ventures. In response, Musk asserted that Trump owed his political success to him:
“Without me, Trump would have lost the election. Dems would control the House and the Republicans would be 51-49 in the Senate,” he posted, later adding, “Such ingratitude.”

Musk also reposted content criticizing Trump, including calls for the president’s impeachment.

Trump soon responded with a personal attack, stating:
“Elon was ‘wearing thin.’ I asked him to leave […] and he just went CRAZY!”

The Allegation That Escalated Everything

The most explosive moment in the feud came when Musk alleged, in a now-deleted post, that Trump’s name appeared in documents related to disgraced financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
“Time to drop the really big bomb: @realDonaldTrump is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public. Have a nice day, DJT!” Musk wrote.

Trump, in turn, attributed Musk’s outburst to the administration’s decision to eliminate electric vehicle tax credits. In a May 29 CBS interview, Musk voiced his disappointment:
“I was, like, disappointed to see the massive spending bill, frankly, which increases the budget deficit, not decreases it, and undermines the work the DoGE team is doing.”

Despite the public fallout, Trump seemed to suggest that Musk’s departure might not be permanent:
“Elon’s really not leaving. He’s going to be back and forth, I think—I have a feeling.”

Donald Trump Responds to Greta Thunberg’s ‘Kidnapped’ Remark: Says She Needs Anger Management

U.S. President Donald Trump suggested that climate activist Greta Thunberg should attend anger management classes, following her claims of being “kidnapped” by Israeli forces. The remark was made in response to a reporter who asked Trump for his thoughts on Thunberg’s recent statements regarding her detainment by the Israeli military.

Thunberg was among several activists aboard the Freedom Flotilla, a humanitarian aid mission headed to Gaza. The boat, named Madleen, had departed from Sicily in June and carried supplies including baby formula, rice, flour, diapers, and women’s hygiene products. The vessel was intercepted by Israeli forces while in international waters.

In a pre-recorded message shared on social media, Thunberg claimed that she and her fellow activists were “intercepted and kidnapped in international waters by the Israeli occupation forces, or forces supporting Israel.” She urged her supporters to pressure the Swedish government to ensure their release.

Responding to the situation, Trump remarked, “She is a strange person. She is young and angry—I don’t know if it’s real anger, but it’s certainly unusual. My main advice for her would be to attend anger management classes.” He added, “Israel has enough issues to deal with without needing to kidnap Greta Thunberg.”

The Freedom Flotilla Coalition issued a statement on Monday, accusing Israel of breaching international law with the interception.

In response, the Israeli Foreign Ministry stated via X (formerly Twitter) that the activists were unharmed and safe. Referring to the vessel as a “selfie yacht,” they noted that it was being escorted to Israeli shores and that passengers were being provided with food and water. Israel had earlier stated that it would take “all necessary measures” to prevent the flotilla from breaching the naval blockade on Gaza.

The Maldives has appointed Bollywood actor Katrina Kaif as its global brand ambassador for tourism, according to an official statement from the country’s marketing and public relations department.

“Katrina Kaif is an internationally celebrated icon, an accomplished actress, and an award-winning entrepreneur whose impact spans across industries and borders. With a celebrated career marked by blockbuster films and numerous accolades, she has made significant contributions to Indian cinema,” the release stated.

Expressing her gratitude, Kaif said she was “honoured” to be selected as the face of the ‘Sunny Side of Life’ campaign. “The Maldives epitomises luxury and natural splendour—a destination where grace meets serenity,” she remarked. She also emphasized that the partnership aimed to showcase the “finest travel experiences” to a global audience.

Kaif further noted her enthusiasm for the initiative, stating the campaign would allow people across the world to “explore the unique charm and exceptional offerings” of the Maldives.

This announcement comes just a month ahead of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to the Maldives and signals improving diplomatic relations between the two countries following a period of tension earlier last year.

Visit Maldives CEO and Managing Director Ibrahim Shiuree expressed his delight at the collaboration, saying, “We are excited to welcome Katrina as our global brand ambassador. Her dynamic presence and global appeal make her an ideal representative for the Sunny Side of Life.”

John McEnroe Claims: Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner Could Defeat Prime Rafael Nadal at French Open

Tennis icon John McEnroe has stirred lively debate by suggesting that modern stars Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner might have the edge over Rafael Nadal in his prime at the French Open—an audacious claim given Nadal’s legendary record at Roland Garros. McEnroe’s remark gained further relevance as Alcaraz and Sinner went on to deliver one of the most electrifying Grand Slam finals in the Open Era.

On Sunday, Alcaraz pulled off a remarkable comeback to defeat World No. 1 Sinner in a five-set thriller, bouncing back from two sets down in the French Open final.

Appearing on TNT Sports, McEnroe applauded the current generation and drew comparisons with the game’s greatest icons.

“You could make a very strong case that both Alcaraz and Sinner would be favoured against Nadal at his peak,” McEnroe said. “The level of tennis right now is the highest I’ve ever witnessed.”

Despite Nadal’s unmatched record of 14 French Open titles and a 112-4 win-loss record at Roland Garros—built on grit, clay-court brilliance, and unbreakable mental strength—McEnroe believes today’s top talents have raised the bar.

While he stopped short of predicting either would match the Grand Slam tallies of Nadal, Federer, or Djokovic, McEnroe underscored their extraordinary quality.

“Do I think either of them will reach 20 or 24 Slams? No. That level is nearly unreachable,” he said. “But these two, watching them feels like watching the NBA and saying no one could top Michael Jordan.”

Alcaraz’s victory, the longest final in French Open history, showcased his tenacity. After trailing by two sets and saving three championship points, the Spaniard triumphed over Sinner 4-6, 6-7(4), 6-4, 7-6(3), 7-6(10-2). Sinner, already a champion at the Australian and US Opens, was seeking his third consecutive major.

“These two have matured into phenomenal players,” McEnroe commented. “They’re admirable young men and fantastic ambassadors for tennis.”

The seven-time Grand Slam winner also remarked that while Alcaraz and Sinner form a thrilling new rivalry, the sport would benefit from a broader pool of emerging stars.

“To elevate men’s tennis further, we need a third or even a fourth top contender,” he noted. “Jack Draper or Ben Shelton could fill that role. Francis Tiafoe might be slightly older, but we need more names in the mix.”

Reflecting on past eras, McEnroe drew parallels to the dominance of Borg and Connors, and how Djokovic built his legacy in the shadow of Federer and Nadal. With Alcaraz and Sinner now leading the charge, McEnroe believes the stage is set for a new golden age—one that could rival, or even surpass, the sport’s most celebrated legacies.

A Singapore-flagged container ship caught fire approximately 144 km off the coast of Beypore in Kerala, triggering a joint rescue and firefighting operation by the Indian Navy and the Indian Coast Guard (ICG), a spokesperson from the Ministry of Defence in Kochi confirmed on Monday.

The fire was reported on board the container vessel MV Wan Hai 503, about 78 nautical miles from Beypore in Kozhikode district, according to a post by the defence ministry on social media platform ‘X’.

A Reuters report indicated that the fire was caused by multiple explosions, resulting in nearly 40 containers falling into the Arabian Sea. Several crew members were forced to jump overboard to escape the flames.

“Preliminary reports suggest that 22 crew members were onboard at the time. Eighteen of them jumped into the sea and are currently in rescue boats. Efforts are ongoing to retrieve them,” said Shekhar Kuriakose, Secretary of the Kerala Disaster Management Authority. He added that the vessel is not “currently sinking.”

Of the 22 crew members, 18 have abandoned the ship using lifeboats, while the remaining four are reportedly missing.

The Navy has redirected INS Surat and launched a Dornier aircraft sortie from INS Garuda. Meanwhile, the ICG has mobilised multiple assets, including a CG Dornier aircraft, to assist in rescue and damage assessment.

“The vessel is still on fire and drifting,” the ministry’s statement concluded.

Billy Joel Was in a ‘Coma for Days’ Following Suicide Attempt Linked to Friend’s Wife Affair

In his new documentary Billy Joel: And So It Goes, which premiered on Wednesday, legendary musician Billy Joel opened up about his struggles with depression and multiple suicide attempts. Now 76, Joel revealed that his mental health took a serious toll following an affair with Elizabeth Weber—the wife of his close friend and musical partner Jon Small.

Joel recounted falling in love with Weber in his twenties while staying at the couple’s home. “Bill and I spent a lot of time together,” Weber said in the film, describing the affair as something that developed gradually. Once suspicions arose, Joel confessed to Small: “I’m in love with your wife.”

“I felt tremendous guilt,” Joel admitted. “They had a child. I felt like I had destroyed a family.” He acknowledged the emotional devastation the affair caused, both for Small and himself, ultimately ending their band, Attila, and their friendship.

The aftermath left Joel in emotional disarray. Homeless and battling despair, he said he began “sleeping in laundromats” and drinking heavily. “I was in a lot of pain… I didn’t see the point in going on. Every day felt the same, and it was unbearable.”

At one point, Joel took a full bottle of sleeping pills given to him by his sister, Judy Molinari, who became visibly emotional recounting the incident in the documentary. “He was in a coma for days. When I saw him in the hospital, he looked lifeless. I thought I had killed him.”

In another suicide attempt, Joel ingested a bottle of lemon Pledge. Despite the breakdown in their relationship, Jon Small rushed him to the hospital. Joel said, “Even though our friendship had collapsed, Jon saved my life.”

Small later reflected, “He never really gave a reason, but maybe he felt such deep remorse because he loved me and couldn’t bear what he’d done. I eventually forgave him.”

Years after the ordeal, Joel and Weber reconnected and married in 1973. Their marriage lasted nearly a decade before ending in 1982.
