Reliance Jio: Requires DoT approval for using E-band spectrum

Reliance Jio: E-Band Spectrum

Ambani’s Reliance Jio has come up to DoT (Department of Telecommunications) to seek approval for widening the use of E-Band. It can be used in addition to backhaul as well.

Earlier last year, DoT provided an E-band spectrum only to use for smoothening the 5G rollout. E-band includes the spectrum between 71-76GHz and 81-86 GHz. According to Reliance Jio, it is fully aligned with the standards of 3GPP.

Reliance said DoT:

“With the use of integrated access backhaul (IAB), E-band spectrum can be used in providing high-speed broadband in densely populated areas where laying of last mile fiber is difficult and uneconomical.

Why E-Band Spectrum?

E-band spectrum is useful when it’s challenging to lay fiber cables for internet connections. This spectrum is cost-effective and can help expand mobile broadband coverage in areas where laying cables is difficult.
