Samsung’s long-awaited mixed reality headset, the Galaxy XR, has been leaked online, with its complete list of specifications surfacing just days before its anticipated launch. Previously known as Project Moohan, the device is expected to be officially unveiled before the end of October, marking Samsung’s bold step into the extended reality (XR) arena.
Galaxy XR Headset: Design, Specifications and Features
As reported by Android Headlines, the Galaxy XR will feature a 4K micro-OLED display capable of delivering around 29 million pixels and a pixel density of 4,032 pixels per inch, surpassing the 3,386 PPI offered by Apple’s Vision Pro.
The headset is expected to run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 processor, paired with Samsung’s new One UI XR software designed specifically for immersive mixed reality experiences. It will include spatial audio and dual built-in speakers, along with multiple sensors positioned both inside and outside the device for precise hand, eye, and voice tracking.
Samsung will reportedly include a pair of Galaxy XR controllers offering six degrees of freedom, analog sticks, and haptic feedback for enhanced interaction in virtual environments. The headset is said to weigh around 545 grams and provide a battery life of up to two hours during general use or 2.5 hours for video playback. Leaked renders suggest that Samsung may offer an optional external battery pack, although the additional runtime it provides has not been confirmed.
The leaked images also reveal six front-facing cameras, an LED light, a power connector, air vents, and detachable light shields. The interface is expected to resemble Samsung’s familiar One UI design, showing icons for applications like YouTube, Netflix, Google Maps, and Samsung’s native Camera and Gallery apps. The headset is also expected to feature an adjustable head strap, internal padding for comfort, and integrated two-way speakers. However, details such as storage capacity, RAM configuration, and wireless connectivity options are yet to be disclosed.
Galaxy XR Headset: Launch and Expected Price
Industry insiders suggest that Samsung could first launch the Galaxy XR in South Korea on October 21. It remains unclear when the device will reach international markets. Pricing is expected to fall between 2.5 million and 4 million Korean won, which translates to roughly 1,800 to 2,900 US dollars. This would make the Galaxy XR more affordable than Apple’s Vision Pro, which retails for 3,500 dollars, while still positioning it well above Meta’s Quest 3, currently priced around 500 dollars.
