Foldable iPhone Leak Hints at Slim, Passport-Like Design; Apple May Launch in September

Apple’s long-discussed foldable iPhone is beginning to look more real than speculative. Recent leaks point to an extremely slim design along with a possible launch window later this year. Although the company has not officially confirmed anything, several reports suggest that the device, commonly referred to as the “iPhone Fold” or “iPhone Ultra”, could represent one of Apple’s most significant hardware changes in years.

A report from Forbes claims that dummy units of the foldable iPhone have surfaced online, giving an early glimpse of its design. A video by the YouTube channel Max Tech showcases these prototypes, which are believed to closely mirror Apple’s upcoming hardware, much like earlier dummy models accurately anticipated the iPhone 17 lineup.

The leaked designs suggest a book-style foldable with a wider and shorter build, resembling a passport more than a traditional smartphone. In the video, Max Tech’s Vadim Yuryev notes that the device could measure roughly 11 millimeters when folded and about 5.5 millimeters when opened, excluding the camera bump. If these figures are accurate, each half of the phone would be slimmer than many current iPhone models.

Another report from Digital Trends, citing tipster yeux1122, suggests the device might be even thinner at around 9.23 millimeters when folded. That said, the camera module is expected to add noticeable thickness, potentially pushing certain sections close to 13 millimeters.

Beyond its dimensions, the leaks indicate a dual lens rear camera setup, a large outer display, and a tablet-like inner screen that could rival compact devices when unfolded. Early information also points to Apple retaining certain hardware elements, such as a dedicated camera control button, despite the device’s slim profile.

The timing of the foldable iPhone’s debut may also be linked to changes in Apple’s leadership. According to Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman in the Power On newsletter, the company is reportedly planning for incoming CEO John Ternus to unveil the device. This aligns with current CEO Tim Cook preparing to step down later this year and transition into the role of executive chairman. The foldable iPhone could therefore mark a defining moment for Apple’s next phase of leadership.

As for specifications, nothing has been officially confirmed, but rumors point to a 5.5-inch outer display paired with a larger 7.8-inch inner screen, along with multitasking features inspired by the iPad. Pricing is expected to exceed 2,000 dollars, positioning the device firmly in the ultra-premium category.

If these reports prove accurate, Apple’s first foldable iPhone could arrive as early as September 2026, potentially reshaping its product lineup and setting the tone for the company’s next era of innovation.
