Barron Trump’s first day at New York University’s Stern School of Business reportedly began with a meeting with interim dean J.P. Eggers, who had previously been a vocal critic of Donald Trump, according to The Daily Beast. Eggers was among 14 NYU Stern administrators who signed an open letter in 2020 warning business leaders about the “threat” posed by Barron’s father to “our republic.”
Eggers’ biography on the NYU Stern website highlights his role at the school: “A member of Stern’s faculty since July 2008, Dean Eggers is a Professor of Management and Organizations and served as Vice Dean for MBA and Graduate Programs from 2018 to 2024. As Vice Dean, he introduced several innovative programs and initiatives and was the founding academic director of the Andre Koo Technology and Entrepreneurship MBA program, which has been praised by the tech industry and continues to grow in demand from students.”
The 2020 letter, which was signed by 1,000 business school leaders from institutions such as Harvard, Yale, Cornell, and Columbia, was authored primarily by Harvard professor Deepak Malhotra.
“It is time for business leaders to speak out against the threat Trump poses to our country,” the letter stated. “Business leaders must publicly declare what many have been saying privately: that President Trump is unfit to lead and poses a danger to the Republic. Journalists should ask America’s CEOs whether they believe four more years of Trump would benefit the country.”
Donald Trump shared that his son Barron had a positive experience at NYU. “He liked the school,” Trump told the Daily Mail. “It’s a very high-quality place. I went to Wharton, and we considered that option, but we chose Stern.” Barron, accompanied by bodyguards, attended his first classes after meeting with the dean, The New York Post reported. According to The Daily Beast, over half of the 14 NYU Stern administrators who signed the 2020 letter still hold roles at the school.
