Bengali Singer Anup Ghosal, Famous For ‘Tujhse Naraz Nahi Zindagi,’ Passes Away At 77

In a somber moment for music lovers, Anup Ghoshal, the acclaimed Bengali singer, breathed his last on Friday at the age of 77. Ghoshal, widely known for his soulful rendition of ‘Tujhse Naraz Nahi Zindagi’ from the 1983 film ‘Masoom,’ had been hospitalized in south Kolkata for age-related ailments in the preceding days and succumbed to multi-organ failure at 1.40 pm.

A versatile artist, Ghoshal left an indelible mark on the music industry, having immortalized songs in several musicals directed by the legendary Satyajit Ray. Apart from his significant contribution to Hindi music with hits like ‘Tujhse Naraz Nahi Zindagi,’ ‘Husn Bhi Aap Hain,’ ‘Ishq Bhi Aap Hain,’ and ‘Tum Saath Ho Zindagi Bhar Ke Liye’ from ‘Sheeshe Ka Ghar,’ Ghoshal also made notable contributions to Bengali music, showcasing his talent in songs by Kazi Nazrul Islam, Rabindranath Tagore, and modern Bengali compositions.

In addition to his successful music career, Ghoshal ventured into politics, winning the 2011 assembly polls from the Uttarpara seat on the Trinamool Congress ticket. His departure leaves behind a legacy that extends beyond the realms of music, touching the hearts of both fans and those who admired his multifaceted talents.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed her condolences, acknowledging Ghoshal’s contribution to Bengali, Hindi, and other languages. Actress Paoli Dam also took to social media to pay homage, saying, “May you find eternal harmony in the melodies of the universe! #anupghoshal #restinmusic #restinpeace.”

Ghoshal’s association with Satyajit Ray’s masterpieces like ‘Goopy Gyne Bagha Byne’ and ‘Hirak Rajar Deshe’ solidified his position as a playback singer of unparalleled versatility. Directors like Tapan Sinha also sought his soulful voice for their films.

As fans and the industry mourn the loss of a musical maestro, Anup Ghoshal’s legacy will continue to resonate through the timeless melodies that he gifted to the world.
