The mischievous five-year-old from Kasukabe is trading his familiar Japanese neighborhood for the vibrant chaos of India in “Crayon Shinchan: Hot Spicy! Kasukabe Dancers,” marking the franchise’s 33rd film and its first-ever Indian setting.

Director Masakazu Hashimoto revealed that Bollywood’s global influence played a crucial role in bringing Shinchan to Indian soil. Speaking exclusively with Indiatoday.in at a PVR INOX Pictures event, he explained his cinematic inspirations.

“Indian movies are very, very popular in Japan. I’m also a big fan myself. I really love films like ‘RRR’, ‘Three Idiots’, and ‘English Vinglish’. In Japan, we call it ‘Madam in New York’. I even watched ‘Writing with Fire’, which I thought was very powerful,” Hashimoto shared.

Shinchan – Beyond Tourist Destinations

The creative team ventured beyond typical tourist hotspots like Delhi and Mumbai, exploring India’s smaller towns and villages to capture authentic local flavor. “It was rare for a Japanese person to be in those places. People smiled at me everywhere I went, and those simple smiles really made me happy,” the director recalled.

Hashimoto’s wanderlust influenced the location choice significantly. “When I choose a place for a movie, I think of places I’d love to visit. India was always on that list. Its colours, chaos, and irresistible energy naturally ticked all the boxes,” he explained.

Cultural Comedy Challenges of Shinchan

Adapting Shinchan’s notorious humour for Indian audiences presented unique creative opportunities. “I’m a big fan of Indian films, so I understand how to enjoy them. Appreciation is borderless. Humour doesn’t need translation,” Hashimoto noted, demonstrating confidence in cross-cultural comedy appeal.

The franchise’s commitment to freshness remains unwavering despite 33 installments. “Even if something becomes a hit, we don’t repeat it. We want to create something new every time,” he emphasized, explaining Shinchan’s enduring unpredictability.

Building Cultural Bridges

Hashimoto expressed particular interest in Indian audience reactions and long-term cultural exchange. “The reactions of Japanese and overseas audiences are not necessarily the same. I’m really looking forward to how Indian audiences respond to this film. I also hope this anime boom isn’t temporary. Animation can become a way of communication between Japanese and Indian audiences, and I want that connection to last long-term,” he elaborated.

The film releases theatrically on September 26, promising nostalgic fans a spicy reunion with their childhood troublemaker navigating India’s colorful landscape.

Viral: Man Clings to Electric Pole as Tons River Swells After Dehradun Cloudburst

Dehradun: A dramatic video from Uttarakhand’s Dehradun district captured a man desperately holding onto an electric pole while surrounded by the raging waters of the swollen Tons River, following severe rainfall and cloudbursts that have devastated parts of the state.

What’s in the viral video?

The footage, recorded by onlookers from the riverbank, shows the individual gripping the pole as torrential waters flow around him. The Tons River, which serves as the Yamuna’s largest tributary, originates from the Bandarpunch glacier in the Garhwal Himalayas and confluences with the Yamuna near Kalsi in Dehradun district.

Widespread Devastation amid Dehradun cloudburst

This season has brought repeated natural disasters across Uttarakhand, with cloudbursts, landslides, and flooding affecting multiple districts. Areas including Dharali-Harsil in Uttarkashi, Tharali in Chamoli, Chenagad in Rudraprayag, Sainji in Pauri, Kapkot in Bageshwar, and sections of Nainital district have suffered extensive damage.

Officials confirmed that at least four fatalities resulted from Tuesday’s early morning cloudburst triggered by heavy rainfall. The disaster destroyed residential structures, damaged critical infrastructure including bridges, and swept away vehicles and commercial establishments.

Emergency Response in Dehradun

Disaster Secretary Vinod Kumar Suman reported that district administration successfully relocated affected residents to safer locations. Two individuals initially reported missing were later found deceased following intensive search operations conducted by rescue teams.

The Disaster Management Department remains on high alert as rainfall continues across the region, with authorities monitoring evolving conditions and coordinating relief efforts.

Infrastructure Impact in Uttrakhand

Flooding submerged significant portions of Dehradun, including the IT Park and Premnagar areas. The Dehradun-Haridwar National Highway sustained damage after a bridge collapsed under the intense pressure of the rainfall, disrupting transportation links between the two cities.

The recurring pattern of extreme weather events this season has highlighted the vulnerability of Uttarakhand’s mountainous terrain to sudden cloudbursts and flash flooding. The state’s location in the Himalayan foothills makes it particularly susceptible to such weather-related disasters during monsoon periods.

Rescue operations continue as authorities work to assess the full extent of damage and provide assistance to affected communities across the region.

Kash Patel Faces Senate Questioning Over Charlie Kirk Investigation And FBI Disputes

Kash Patel faced a panel of wary Senate Democrats on Tuesday in a congressional hearing that centered largely on the investigation into Charlie Kirk’s killing and the recent dismissals of senior FBI officials who accused him of unlawful political retaliation.

The session before the Senate Judiciary Committee marked the first oversight hearing of Patel’s turbulent tenure as director and offered him a high-stakes chance to convince skeptical lawmakers that he was capable of leading the agency at a time of internal unrest and heightened concerns over political violence in the United States.

It was Patel’s first return to the committee since his confirmation in January, when he had promised Democrats that he would not use the position to seek vengeance. On Tuesday, senators pressed him over whether that promise had been broken after the FBI last month dismissed five agents and senior officials. Current and former officials said the removals damaged morale and deepened anxiety inside the bureau.

Three of the ousted officials filed a lawsuit last week claiming Patel was aware the firings likely violated the law but went through with them to secure his own standing. One plaintiff had overseen elements of the January 6 Capitol riot investigation, while another had clashed with Justice Department leaders when serving as acting director under the Trump administration. The FBI has so far declined to comment on the litigation.

Republican senators, who form the committee’s majority, expressed support for Patel, a longtime ally of Donald Trump, praising his focus on violent crime and border enforcement. They also sought new details from him about the probe into Kirk’s assassination at a Utah college campus, allegedly carried out by a 22-year-old man whose views had shifted toward leftist politics.

Patel drew criticism shortly after the killing when he announced on social media that the suspect was already in custody, though the accused shooter remained at large and surrendered only the following evening. Patel has not clarified that statement but defended his decision to release photographs of the fugitive, Tyler Robinson, saying it played an important role in bringing him in. Trump later told a Fox News reporter that Patel and the bureau had “done a great job.” Robinson is scheduled for his first court appearance in Utah.

Another point of concern for Democrats was Patel’s approach to politically sensitive cases. Critics fear that he has been steering the FBI toward partisan ends, particularly in revisiting Trump-related grievances. Agents and prosecutors have recently sought interviews and records connected to the bureau’s earlier investigation into possible coordination between Russia and Trump’s 2016 campaign.

Patel has maintained that it was his predecessors in the FBI and Justice Department who politicized the institutions by pursuing Trump in the first place.

Usain Bolt Who Shattered Sprint Records Now Struggles To Catch Breath On Stairs

Usain Bolt
Usain Bolt

It feels like time has moved in a flash. Usain Bolt, once celebrated as the fastest man on earth, still looks strong from the outside, but he admits his body no longer feels the same. The eight-time Olympic gold medalist stepped away from competition in 2017 after setting world records in the 100 meters, 200 meters and the 4×100 meters relay. Now 39, Bolt openly says that age has finally caught up with him. The 11-time world champion no longer trains on the track, and most of his days are now spent at home.

“I usually wake up just in time to get the kids ready for school, and then it really depends on my schedule. If I don’t have much to do, I just relax. I might go for a workout if I feel like it, otherwise I’ll watch a series until the kids return. I spend some time with them, play around, and when they start driving me crazy, I take a break. Later, I might put on a movie or build Lego sets, which I’ve really gotten into,” Bolt shared with The Guardian.

Recently, Bolt was seen at the World Championships, sitting in a skybox above the stadium. Even from there, his aura dominated the sport, which has never been quite the same since his exit. Although Oblique Seville holds the 100-meter crown today, Bolt remains the only sprinter of this century whose fame stretches well beyond athletics. Nearly a decade after his retirement, his records and his presence remain unmatched.

Fatherhood has added a new chapter to his life. Bolt is now raising his five-year-old daughter Olympia Lightning and his twin sons, Saint Leo and Thunder, who are four. They have no real idea how famous their father once was. Bolt hopes that will change when he takes them to Beijing for the World Championships in two years, the same city where his career first soared, so they can see the stage on which his story began.

Life beyond sprinting, however, has reminded him that time spares no one. For the man who once flew across tracks, even climbing stairs now leaves him out of breath.

“I stick to gym training these days. I don’t enjoy it much, but I know I need to start running again. When I go up the stairs, I lose my breath, and that tells me I need to push myself back into it. Maybe some laps will help get my breathing under control again,” Bolt admitted.

Nitish Kumar Pledges Loyalty to NDA, Praises PM Modi’s Support

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, whose frequent political alliance shifts earned him the nickname “paltu Ram,” made a public commitment to remain with the BJP-led NDA during a Monday rally in Purnea, telling Prime Minister Narendra Modi he would “not go anywhere henceforth.”

Bihar CM Nitish Kumar addresses a rally with PM Modi

Speaking alongside PM Modi, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar characterized his previous partnerships with the RJD and Congress as errors in judgment, attributing these decisions to pressure from party colleagues.

“For one or two times, I went to the other side, upon prodding of some of my own party colleagues, one of whom is sitting here,” he stated, gesturing toward Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh ‘Lalan’. “But, that is a thing of the past. I could never be comfortable with those people. They always indulged in mischief when we shared power. I am now back. And, I will not go anywhere henceforth.”

PM Modi’s Response and Policy Highlights

Kumar’s declaration drew smiles and applause from Modi, who shared the platform during the event. The Bihar Chief Minister praised the Prime Minister’s initiatives for the state, particularly highlighting the Union Budget’s promise of establishing a National Makhana Board, which Modi inaugurated in Purnea.

Kumar also emphasized his government’s recent welfare measures, including free electricity supply up to 125 units and increased social security pensions for residents.

Public Display of Support

In a notable moment, the CM asked women in the audience to stand and acknowledge Modi’s contributions to Bihar. “He has done so much for Bihar,” he said. “Khada hokar pranaam kariye. Ye bahut badi baat hai, isliye aap kahe baithe huye ho? Khada ho” (Stand up and greet him. This is a big deal, so why are you still sitting down? Get up).”

The women responded by greeting the Prime Minister with folded hands, followed by sustained applause.

Political History of Alliance Changes

Nitish Kumar’s political journey reflects significant ideological shifts over nearly two decades. After forming Bihar’s first JD(U)-BJP government in 2005, he severed ties in 2013 over Modi’s elevation as BJP’s prime ministerial candidate. He returned to power in 2015 through an RJD-Congress alliance, departed in 2017 to rejoin the NDA, broke away again in 2022 to revive his RJD partnership, and returned to the NDA in 2023.

This pattern of alliance changes has defined Kumar’s political career and earned him widespread criticism for political opportunism.

Bhagwant Mann Introduces New Curriculum in Punjab; Tackling Drug Addiction In Focus

0

On August 1, government schools across Punjab began teaching a new drug prevention curriculum for students in grades 9 to 12. The program was launched to discourage drug use among teenagers and formed part of a broader strategy to curb both supply and demand.

Developed with guidance from Nobel laureate Prof Abhijit Banerjee, the course consisted of 15 sessions spread over 27 weeks. Each 35-minute class was held every two weeks and focused on helping students resist peer pressure, make thoughtful choices, and understand the risks of substance abuse. Lessons were supported with films, quizzes, posters, worksheets, and interactive activities.

Around 800,000 students in 3,658 government schools took part in the program. To make the rollout possible, over 6,500 teachers had been trained in advance to deliver the sessions.

Results from an earlier pilot in 78 schools in Amritsar and Tarn Taran had shown promising outcomes. Among 9,600 students, 90 percent recognised that even one experiment with drugs could lead to addiction. Belief in overcoming addiction through willpower alone fell sharply from 50 percent to 20 percent.

The initiative complemented the “War Against Drugs” campaign, which had been running since March 2025. In that time, more than 23,000 alleged traffickers were arrested, over 1,000 kilograms of heroin were seized, and properties linked to the trade were confiscated.

While enforcement continued, the government stressed that lasting impact required preventive measures. Officials noted that focusing on youth through schools might create a model for other states to adopt in the coming years.

Cloudburst Devastates Dehradun, 2 Missing as Floods Ravage Tapovan Area

Dehradun: A severe cloudburst struck Uttarakhand’s Dehradun on Monday night, triggering massive flooding that submerged houses in Tapovan and caused extensive waterlogging across Sahastradhara and the IT Park area, leaving two people missing.

Rainfall mishap in Dehradun

The natural disaster, accompanied by heavy rainfall, led to dangerous swelling of the Karligaad rivulet, resulting in widespread destruction throughout the surrounding region. Local residents have been evacuated to safer locations as rescue operations continue.

The intense precipitation caused the stream to overflow dangerously, leading to the collapse of a crucial bridge and significant property damage along the riverbanks. Multiple shops in the Sahastradhara area sustained damage from the flooding.

CM Dhami takes to x – Here’s his response on Dehradun Floods

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami acknowledged the damage through social media platform X, stating that shops had been damaged due to heavy rain in Sahastradhara. He assured continuous coordination with local administration and personal monitoring of the developing situation.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi contacted Dhami by telephone to assess the crisis, assuring “full cooperation from the Centre” and emphasizing that the Union government “stands firmly with Uttarakhand in this hour of disaster.

HM Amit Shah reviews the situation

Home Minister Amit Shah also conducted a telephonic discussion with the Chief Minister regarding the rainfall situation, guaranteeing comprehensive assistance from the Home Ministry and confirming that “relief and rescue efforts will be fully supported by the Centre.”

Expressing appreciation, the chief minister stated that “with the guidance and cooperation of the Prime Minister and the Home Minister, relief work will be conducted more rapidly in the state.”

Rescue Operations Undergoes

District Magistrate Savin Bansal, Sub Divisional Magistrate Kumkum Joshi, and other officials immediately reached the affected site during the night to supervise relief operations. Bansal directed rescue teams to search for the two missing individuals.

Personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and Central Public Works Department are actively working with bulldozers at the disaster site.

The District Magistrate ordered closure of all schools from Class 1 to 12 in Dehradun as a precautionary measure.

This incident follows previous cloudbursts in the region, including an August event in Chamoli district’s Mopata village that left two missing and damaged livestock shelters.

PM Modi previously visited Dehradun on September 11 to assess flood conditions and announced Rs 1,200 crore in financial assistance for affected areas.

Punjab Begins Special Healthcare Mission Across 2,303 Flood Struck Villages

Punjab’s Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Balbir Singh has announced an extensive mobilisation of medical personnel across the state to launch a Special Health Campaign in 2,303 villages hit by the recent floods. He instructed that every available resource, including government doctors, private volunteers, Ayurveda medical officers, and MBBS interns, be put to work starting Sunday.

Civil surgeons have been told to ensure that medical staff are stationed at health camps and deployed in door-to-door teams so that every village receives adequate care and preventive services.

“The special campaign is being implemented across all 2,303 villages adversely affected by the recent unprecedented floods, with the primary objective of preventing outbreaks of vector-borne, waterborne, and communicable diseases,” the minister said.

Explaining the structure, he noted, “The campaign is built on three core components, with the first being health and medical camps under which medical camps will be organised in all 2,303 villages. In 596 villages with existing health facilities like Aam Aadmi Clinics, the camps will be organised daily. In the remaining 1,707 villages, camps will be set up in public spaces like schools and community centres for a minimum of three days, extendable based on need.”

He further added, “The second component is door-to-door visits by ASHA workers under which a force of over 11,103 ASHA workers will conduct weekly house-to-house visits in these villages to distribute essential health kits containing mosquito repellent, ORS, paracetamol, chlorine tablets, soap, and other supplies. They will also screen people for illnesses and raise awareness about disease prevention.”

Detailing the last part of the drive, the minister said, “As part of the last component, a rigorous fumigation and vector-control exercise will be carried out every day for the next 21 days in all affected villages. Teams will conduct indoor and outdoor fogging, larvicidal spraying, and breeding checks in households, schools, markets, and other public places to prevent outbreaks of dengue and malaria.”

He also highlighted the logistical support being put in place. “The campaign will be supported by a robust fleet of over 550 ambulances, including 180 govt ambulances and 254 arranged through the Indian Medical Association, to strengthen health services and patient access,” he said.

Dr Balbir Singh concluded by noting, “The department has identified 85 essential drugs and 23 consumables for flood relief, which are in sufficient stock and will be made available at all health camps and facilities. Districts have also been empowered to procure any required items locally to avoid delays.”

Manoj Bajpayee Breaks Silence On National Award Going To Shah Rukh Khan

Shah Rukh Khan’s National Film Award win for Best Actor in Jawan has triggered celebration among his admirers and sparked a debate among film circles. Social media platforms were filled with congratulatory posts, but some critics argued that Manoj Bajpayee’s powerful act in Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai was more worthy of the honour.

Manoj responds to the comparisons

Addressing the ongoing chatter, Manoj brushed aside the criticism over the jury’s choice. In a conversation with India Today, he remarked, “It is a useless conversation because it is gone. When it comes to Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai, yes, it is a very special film in my filmography, and so was Joram. But I don’t discuss these things because it is a very loser conversation. It is in the past, and it should be left alone.”

A four-time National Award recipient, Manoj also shared his concerns about how the landscape of awards has changed over the years. He hinted that even the National Awards risk drifting away from their original artistic purpose in favour of commercial considerations.

He explained, “It’s not just about National Awards. It’s about all the awards that were revered. They should seriously think about how they are operating. Because it is not about my respect. I take care of my respect very cautiously when I’m choosing a film. But each and every organisation has to think of itself. That’s not my job. I think for me, the idea of an award show is wrong. It is just a piece of decoration in your house. Every day, you’re not going to stand in front of it and say, ‘Wow, I got this’.”

Awards journey

For Shah Rukh Khan, this year’s recognition is historic. Jawan brought him his first National Award, cementing his evolution into roles that balance blockbuster appeal with emotional intensity. Manoj Bajpayee, meanwhile, has long been familiar with the stage, having collected National Awards for Satya, Pinjar, Aligarh, and Bhonsle.

Supreme Court’s Stark Warning to Election Commission: ‘Will Scrap Bihar SIR Exercise If…’

supreme court
supreme court

The Supreme Court issued a stern warning on Monday regarding Bihar’s controversial Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, stating it would cancel the entire exercise if any illegality is discovered in the Election Commission of India’s methodology.

Supreme Court on Bihar’s SRI issue

A bench comprising Justices Surya Kant and Joymalya Bagchi made clear their position while hearing challenges to the electoral survey, emphasizing they were presuming the poll panel had followed proper legal procedures as a constitutional authority.

The court refused to provide any partial rulings on the matter, indicating its final verdict would establish precedent for SIR exercises nationwide. Final arguments on the Bihar SIR’s validity have been scheduled for October 7.

Aadhaar Inclusion Controversy

On September 8, the Supreme Court directed that Aadhaar be accepted as the twelfth valid document for electoral roll inclusion during Bihar’s ongoing SIR, following complaints that election officials were rejecting it despite previous instructions.

The court overruled Election Commission objections, clarifying that while Aadhaar cannot establish citizenship, it remains legitimate proof of identity and residence. This decision addressed criticism that excluding Aadhaar from the EC’s approved list of 11 documents unfairly disadvantaged voters, given its widespread availability compared to other identification documents.

Political Controversy

The SIR exercise has drawn fierce opposition criticism, with parties alleging that millions of legitimate voters are being removed without proper verification. On August 18, the ECI published a draft list showing 65 lakh names had been deleted through the SIR process.

The Election Commission has pushed back against opposition “vote chori” (vote theft) allegations, accusing political parties of misleading voters while deflecting responsibility onto the poll body.

Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar has directly challenged Congress leader and Lok Sabha Opposition chief Rahul Gandhi, demanding he either file an affidavit with supporting evidence or issue a public apology for his allegations against the commission.

Stakes and Implications

The Supreme Court’s warning carries significant implications for electoral integrity in poll-bound Bihar and potentially other states conducting similar exercises. The court’s insistence on pan-India applicability suggests any ruling could reshape how electoral roll revisions are conducted nationwide.

The October 7 hearing will determine whether the current methodology meets legal standards or requires fundamental changes to protect voter rights while maintaining electoral accuracy.
