Karan Questions Why Sidharth And Varun Aren't Close Friends Despite Debuting Together

The latest episode of Koffee With Karan saw real-life friends turned co-actors Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Malhotra gracing the couch. During the conversation, host Karan Johar asked them why they weren’t close friends despite debuting together and sharing so much in common.

While admitting they aren’t friends per se, Sidharth clarified that they effortlessly reconnect whenever they meet at parties nowadays. He cited how difficult it is for two mainstream heroes to be close buddies in a competitive industry.

Echoing his thoughts, Varun revealed that although work and life have separated them for over a decade, his family remains very fond of Sidharth. In fact, they have a gala time bonding whenever they catch up.

The duo also reminisced about featuring alongside Alia Bhatt on the show in their debut year. Alia made a surprise video appearance on the episode, thanking Sidharth for gifting her cat Edward – the first love of her life.

She also mentioned that despite Sidharth’s shy demeanor, he can effortlessly liven up parties – a contrast to his early sleeping habits. Meanwhile, Varun’s bubbly personality is a hit among their social circle.

In conclusion, although fierce competition prevents lead actors from being best friends, Varun and Sidharth share an equation akin to college mates – easy warmth sans constant contact. They may not be talking every day but when they reunite, it’s like no time has passed at all.

Sensex Gains Over 100 Points; Nifty Nears 19,850 Amid Volatility

Sensex, Nifty Trade Flat; IT Stocks Decline, Adani Group Gains

Indian shares fluctuated on Thursday but managed to hold on to most early gains as the Sensex traded 146 points higher at 66,169, while the Nifty hovered around 19,851 levels.

In the broader market, the BSE Midcap index added 0.4 percent, while the Smallcap advanced 0.6 percent. ( Image Source: Getty )

The upside in equities came on the back of easing US bond yields, reduced FII selling recently, and a correction in crude oil prices. However, mixed Asian cues and weekly options expiry volatility kept the tone cautious.

On the Sensex pack, IndusInd Bank, Nestle, Wipro, SBI, and Asian Paints saw buying interest. Meanwhile, Ultratech Cement, Tech Mahindra, HUL, and Bharti Airtel faced selling pressure.

In the broader markets, midcap and smallcap indices rose between 0.4-0.6% as investors cherry-picked stocks in those segments.

Among sectors, realty jumped nearly 1.5% while pharma and metals dragged. Rest all sectors traded in the positive zone.

Analysts, however, remain watchful of lingering global recession fears and the direction of foreign fund flows into India for further upside. The focus also remains on the last leg of Q2 corporate earnings for the next market trigger.

On Wednesday, Indian equities snapped a two-day slide as markets worldwide took comfort from smaller-than-anticipated rate hikes abroad and China easing its controversial zero-Covid policy. The rupee also stabilized and edged up marginally against the US dollar.

Going forward, volatility cannot be ruled out as year-end considerations come into play. Investors may see buying opportunities on market dips with a long-term view.

Israel Clarifies No Hostage Release Before Friday Under Ceasefire Deal

Israel has clarified that the release of hostages under the newly-inked Egyptian-brokered ceasefire deal with Hamas will not occur before Friday.

Israel’s national security adviser Tzachi Hanegbi stated on Wednesday that the “start of the release will take place according to the original agreement between the sides, and not before Friday.”

This comes after Israel approved a four-day pause in fighting to allow humanitarian access into Gaza. In exchange, Hamas will free 50 Israeli hostages comprising women and children. Further hostage releases could extend the truce.

However, ambiguity over the ceasefire start time prompted false hopes of an imminent hostage exchange on Thursday. Seeking to manage expectations, Israeli PM Netanyahu’s office dismissed such reports as “media speculation”.

Officials explained the delay would give adequate time for procedural formalities as Hamas is yet to sign the mediated pact. Moreover, clearly signaling the release timeline provides relief to anxious families of hostages.

Tensions remain high between the warring parties after Hamas militants launched surprise attacks in October, killing over 1200 Israelis. The assaults sparked a relentless Israeli bombing campaign on Gaza which has claimed over 14,000 Palestinian lives so far.

While the temporary deal is the first step to de-escalating hostilities, the road ahead is long for broader Israel-Palestine peace. However, Egyptian mediators have managed to bring both sides to the table amidst global calls for Gaza’s humanitarian crisis to be addressed urgently.

All eyes are now on the upcoming releases as building blocks toward reconciling two deeply hurting communities. Respecting ceasefire terms could restore minimal trust for future negotiations.

RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook of BTS Begin Military Enlistment Process

Korean entertainment giant Bighit Music announced that the four youngest members of K-pop sensation BTS – RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook – have initiated the process for mandatory military enlistment.

After recent speculation over exemptions, the company confirmed the quartet will soon fulfill their duties by entering active service like older members Jin and J-Hope. The exact enlistment dates are yet to be finalized.

This leaves just three-seventh of BTS presently active as rapper Suga is already serving as a social worker post shoulder surgery. However, the company promised full support for the enlisted artists until the group eventually reconvenes around 2025 after completion.

The news follows BTS going on a group hiatus since June 2022 to pursue solo projects temporarily. All four members have released acclaimed individual albums recently to resounding fan response.

But with the eldest hyung Jin setting the precedent in December 2022, the makers were evidently always going to follow suit. Putting rumors to bed, the agency asked fans to keep supporting the stars during this period of military service.

While the decision cut short at least two years of BTS’ resurgent fame, it was an inevitable rite of passage for the Korean band. Despite assured reunion, the next chapter in members’ lives has signaled the end of an era in pop history.

But with Borahae’s love, the septet is destined to eventually reunite stronger on the other side. Their goodbyes are never forever. And individual glory still awaits.

iPhone 16 Pro Models Tipped To Sport Enhanced Tetraprism Telephoto Lens

Apple’s 2024 iPhone lineup could see significant camera upgrades if the latest predictions hold true. Renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo asserts that both iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max will feature a tetraprism telephoto lens, enabling enhanced optical zoom capabilities.

Kuo suggests that Apple and Huawei are set to become the fastest-growing brands in global periscope camera smartphone shipments in 2024. ( Image Source: Apple )

This year’s iPhone 15 Pro Max debuted the tetraprism technology allowing 5x optical zoom. But its smaller Pro counterpart was limited to a 3x zoom telephoto lens. Kuo now foresees Apple bringing the upgraded zoom lens to both Pro models in 2024.

Given Largan’s rising yields on supplying tetraprism components, Kuo predicts the dual adoption could spur over 160% sales growth for next year’s Pro iPhones. This signals Apple’s ambition to further differentiate Pro and non-Pro tiers through marquee features like advanced cameras.

If accurate, it would allow the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max to match the excellent zoom performance of their larger 2023 sibling. while appealing to customers who prefer compact sizes.

Beyond superior optics, both devices are also rumored to flaunt larger displays and exclusive LTPO technology enabling dynamic 120Hz refresh rates. This combination of premium enhancements may compel more users to opt for the superior-specced and predictably higher-priced Pro models.

As rivals like Samsung and Google push smartphone camera innovations, Apple aims to maintain its reputation for imaging excellence. By bringing best-in-class zoom and photographic capabilities across its 2024 Pro lineup, it could entice more professional creators into its ecosystem.

Sensex, Nifty Open Flat; Bharat Petroleum Surges Over 3%

Indian equity benchmarks Sensex and Nifty opened marginally higher on Wednesday amid mixed global cues. Buying in select energy and consumer stocks lent some support.

The BSE Sensex rose 36 points to trade at 65,967 in early deals. The NSE Nifty50 edged up 11 points to 19,795.

Among Sensex stocks, Bharat Petroleum Corporation jumped over 3% after the government named a new chairman for the company. Titan, Power Grid, Tata Motors, and Nestle India also started the day in the green.

On the flipside, private lenders like ICICI Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, and IndusInd Bank faced selling pressure. IT major TCS and metal stock JSW Steel opened lower.

Israel Approves Temporary Ceasefire Deal With Hamas To Free Gaza Hostages

Israel Approves Temporary Ceasefire Deal With Hamas To Free Gaza Hostages

The Israeli government on Wednesday approved a temporary ceasefire agreement with Palestinian militant group Hamas to secure the release of Israeli hostages held in the Gaza Strip.

The deal, brokered by Qatar and the United States, entails a four-day pause in fighting to allow humanitarian aid into Gaza. In return, Hamas will free 50 Israeli hostages comprising women and children. For every additional 10 hostages freed, another day will be added to the truce.

This marks the first agreement between the warring parties since clashes erupted in October. Israel has been pounding Gaza with airstrikes after Hamas launched surprise attacks that killed 1400 Israelis. Over 13,000 Palestinian civilians have perished in the subsequent Israeli bombardment.

While Hamas welcomed the “humanitarian truce”, Israel vowed to resume military operations after the pause. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated this is just the first stage towards securing all hostage releases and destroying Hamas’ capabilities. His message came after facing internal opposition from far-right coalition partners

Critics believe the deal grants too many concessions to Hamas. However, US intervention helped improve terms to free more hostages upfront. President Biden’s efforts were key to pushing the agreement forward.

For now, citizens on both sides will get respite from non-stop violence. But long-term peace remains uncertain as key issues stay unresolved in the intractable conflict. Hostage releases could build momentum for wider political negotiations. Still, more bloodshed likely looms if no progress is made toward addressing underlying grievances.
