Rashmika Condemns Deepfakes, Urges Women To Speak Up Against Such Violations

At the ‘Animal’ promotions in Hyderabad, actress Rashmika Mandanna strongly denounced the creation of deepfake videos that have violated her and other female stars’ privacy.

Rashmika, whose deepfake clip went viral earlier, said people have shockingly normalized such non-consensual AI imagery. However, it is far from okay. She expressed gratitude for support after her disturbing episode.

Her timely comments come as a vulgar deepfake video of Alia Bhatt circulated recently on social media. Rashmika pointed out that women across industries are falling prey to such harassment.

She stressed that victims should find the courage to speak up when accosted by such situations. Staying silent only lets the crime fester. Rashmika wants more women to call out offenses rather than trivialize them, preventing such normalized further such normalized violations.

The defiant statement marks an encouraging stance against the unchecked proliferation of realistic deepfakes that Indian female celebrities are battling. Beyond reputational impacts, such imagery also enables further unethical leaks and privacy breaches.

By boldly addressing the sensitive issue on a public platform, Rashmika has sounded the alarm on the urgent need for safeguards against exploitative deepfake practices. Her call for collective women’s voices to shame creators and regulators into action carries weight in the larger battle ahead.

Sensex, Nifty Trade Flat; IT Stocks Decline, Adani Group Gains

Indian equity benchmarks traded on a flat note with volatility on Tuesday as global sentiment remained tepid on recession worries. The Sensex hovered around the 65,900 mark while the Nifty held above 19,800.

On the Sensex, IT majors like Infosys, HCL Tech, and Tech Mahindra faced selling pressure. Reliance and Sun Pharma also witnessed profit-booking. However, gains in select Adani stocks, Titan, UltraTech Cement, and Axis Bank lent some support.

Broader markets saw buying interest in midcap and smallcap shares after recent underperformance. Among sectors, the Nifty IT index declined 0.3% dragging Nifty lower. Meanwhile, the metal index surged nearly 1% and FMCG traded higher.

Specifically, Adani group stocks rallied gaining up to 13% as the Supreme Court reserved its judgment on the Hindenburg crisis, providing temporary relief. BSE shares also jumped over 4% after Jefferies turned bullish with a 24% upside projected.

On Monday, domestic stock markets were shut on account of Guru Nanak Jayanti after ending a volatile month with minor cuts last Friday.

Going ahead, analysts expect the tug-of-war between bulls and bears to persist amid mixed global cues and the ongoing Q2 earnings season. Volatility may rise as the expiry of November derivative contracts approaches on Thursday this week.

Rashid Khan To Miss BBL 2023 After Undergoing Minor Back Surgery

Afghanistan’s star spinner Rashid Khan will miss the upcoming Big Bash League (BBL) 2023 season after undergoing minor back surgery recently in the UK.

The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) announced that Rashid, who played a key role in their giant-slaying campaign at the T20 World Cup in Australia, got operated by a renowned surgeon to treat a lower back issue.

He has been advised to rest by medics following the procedure. As a result, Rashid will be unavailable for the full BBL season scheduled from December 13 onwards.

The leg-break bowler has been a consistent performer for his BBL franchise Adelaide Strikers since 2017. The team management expressed disappointment but support for Rashid prioritizing his fitness.

Rashid’s absence deals a huge blow to Adelaide’s title chances and leaves a gaping hole in their spin bowling stocks. The franchise will soon announce a replacement for the marquee player.

Interestingly, Rashid had earlier threatened to skip BBL in protest after Australia’s last-minute cancellation of a proposed ODI series against Afghanistan.

But with the back niggle now forcing him out regardless, the focus shifts to Rashid’s recovery in time for Afghanistan’s upcoming challenges. His guile and experience remain invaluable on the global stage.

Fans will hope the surgery helps their talismanic bowler return stronger. Rashid’s wizardry will be especially missed in the BBL this season. But long-term fitness to serve his country remains the priority.

Vikram's 'Dhruva Natchathiram' Release Delayed Due to Legal Tussles

The much-awaited release of Tamil superstar Vikram’s spy thriller ‘Dhruva Natchathiram’ has been postponed yet again over financial disputes.

The film was slated to open in theaters on November 24th after multiple delays over the years. However, director Gautham Menon announced on social media that they need “a day or two more” to finalize the release.

As per reports, the Madras High Court had instructed Menon to clear dues worth Rs 2 crore to production house All In Pictures by November 24 morning for the film’s release. With the payment not made in time, the court stalled the premiere.

‘Dhruva Natchathiram’ has been in production since 2017 and faced several hurdles already including filming delays and the pandemic. Fans were excited about Vikram’s return as an agent going rogue, but the legal wrangles have poured cold water yet again.

Menon expressed disappointment but said the incredible audience support has kept them motivated. The team is hoping to resolve the financial matters in a few days and announce a new release date soon.

Besides Vikram playing the titular character, the high-octane action flick also stars Ritu Varma, Aishwarya Rajesh, Radhika Sarathkumar, and others. The multi-part franchise is produced by Menon himself.

On the work front, Vikram has other eagerly awaited films coming up including ‘Thangalaan’ and ‘Chiyaan 62’ where he reunites with composer GV Prakash Kumar after over a decade. But ‘Dhruva Natchathiram’ remains special for fans awaiting Vikram in an intense action avatar.

Here’s hoping the legal issues get ironed out and there are no further barriers to the film’s long-awaited opening in cinemas.

Adlakha was a fourth-year molecular biology Ph.D. candidate at the University of Cincinnati (UC) College of Medicine. The university described his shocking death as “sudden, tragic and senseless.”

As per reports, Cincinnati police found Adlakha critically wounded inside his bullet-ridden vehicle after gunshots were heard in the area and passersby called 911. He succumbed to his injuries two days later at UC Medical Center.

Hailing from Delhi, Adlakha was an alumnus of Ramjas College and the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences. The UC community fondly remembered him as an exceptionally kind and intelligent student dedicated to exploring neuroimmune interactions.

With the motive behind the premeditated attack still unclear, Adlakha’s murder has left faculty and international students rattled. The UC administration offered counseling services while extending deepest condolences to his loved ones.

The incident has also reinforced concerns over gun violence and the safety of Indian students on US campuses. As police continue investigating, Adlakha’s demise stands as a chilling reminder of the precious lives lost to America’s shooting epidemic year after year.

UC officials described the bright scholar’s tragic death as unfathomable – snuffing out a life brimming with academic promise. As the Indian family grieves the terrible loss, questions remain on whether US campuses are doing enough to protect international talents from the mortal dangers of unchecked gun culture.

Afghanistan Shuts Down Embassy In New Delhi Over Visa Curbs.

The Islamic Republic of Afghanistan has announced the permanent closure of its embassy in New Delhi due to “persistent challenges from the Indian government”. This comes after suspending operations on September 30th hoping for resolution of issues like visa extensions.

In a strongly-worded statement, the embassy expressed regret over the shutting down of its mission due to “persistent challenges from the Indian government.” It said neither the objectives of securing visas for staff and families nor a change in India’s stance could be realized despite an 8-week hiatus in functioning.

India has been a key supporter of an independent Afghanistan since 2001 and the embassy acknowledged New Delhi’s security and geopolitical constraints as the region grapples with a Taliban regime. However, with Taliban pressure mounting to relinquish control, sustained operations became untenable it suggested.

Over the past two years, the Afghan community in India has seen a sharp slump with refugees, students, and businesspersons returning home. Limited visa issuances have hampered the ability of Afghans to remain in India during the turmoil back home.

The embassy thanked India for cooperation over the years but said winding down at this stage safeguards Afghanistan’s interests best. As an emerging regional power, India is walking a tightrope between criticizing the Taliban’s human rights record and preventing Pakistan-based terror groups from consolidating hold.

But visa curbs strangle people-to-people ties that New Delhi itself worked hard to build over 20 years. With both sides letting diplomacy become hostage to security matters, restoring engagement looks challenging unless pragmatic solutions emerge.

For now, Afghans nurturing deep bonds with India can only hope the darkness before the dawn ends rather sooner as the embassy gates close firmly.

The BSE Sensex hovered around the 66,000 level, down 34 points led by losses in IT, auto, and metal shares. Meanwhile, the NSE Nifty50 index stayed afloat above the 19,800 mark despite weakness across most sectoral indices.

HCL Tech, Tata Motors, Infosys, Wipro, and Tata Steel faced selling pressure on the Sensex pack. On the flipside, Sun Pharma, NTPC, M&M and Maruti mustered some gains.

In the broader market, midcap and smallcap stocks saw keen investor interest after the recent underperformance. Nifty Pharma outshone rising over 1% while the IT index slid nearly 0.5%.

The last day of the week is seeing cautious trading amid the scheduled F&O expiry of November contracts. Consolidation may continue but analysts expect the positive undertone to sustain on the back of FIIs slowing down their selling spree.

Globally, Asian indices were trading mixed on China reopening optimism being offset by recession worries and geopolitical tensions. European stocks had ended with mild gains overnight.

On Thursday, domestic indices halted their two-day losing run despite volatility surrounding the expiry session. The Sensex closed 6 points lower at 66,018 while the Nifty settled 10 points down at 19,802.

Going ahead, investors may log some profits on frontline stocks after the recent rally. But market experts foresee the rally regaining momentum after a pause on global rebound hopes.

X To Restore News Headlines In Link Previews After Aesthetic Makeover Backlash

X To Restore News Headlines In Link Previews After Aesthetic Makeover Backlash

X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, will reintroduce displaying news headlines on link preview cards – reversing an unpopular visual redesign by CEO Elon Musk.

In a recent post, Musk stated that an upcoming update will overlay titles on the top portion of images on URL preview cards. This restoration comes just months after headlines were removed in October to “enhance aesthetics”, sparking backlash.

Originally, preview cards on tweets displayed both the article’s headline and imagery when sharing links. But Musk’s tweak forced users to click through to read titles or outlets to incorporate overt keywords on images instead.

Now confronting user frustration and publisher SEO troubles, a rollback seems imminent. However, Musk did not specify an exact timeline for the restored previews.

The fickle billionaire’s product whims also involve molding X into a one-stop platform for dating, jobs, sports streaming, and more. He recently suggested evaluating individuals by histories of likes, retweets, and replies.

But while chasing lofty Web3 goals, Musk cannot afford to alienate X’s core base too frequently. Reinstating a crucial feature like readable headlines signals someone behind the scenes is nudging him to fix what isn’t broken.

Whether preview titles ultimately return looking better or worse, Musk’s one-man design dictatorship has sparked chaos at X. For the company to thrive, he must balance his radical instincts with constructive criticism – including knowing when to rewind hasty changes completely missing the mark.

Government To Introduce Regulations To Tackle Deepfake Menace

Government to Introduce Regulations to Tackle Deepfake Menace

Alarmed by the proliferation of deepfakes, the Indian government plans to formulate new rules to tackle the AI-enabled impersonation videos that are threatening privacy and spreading misinformation online.

At a meeting with social media firms on Thursday, IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that specific regulations are on the anvil to detect, prevent, and raise awareness about deepfakes – a disruptive technological challenge.

The policy formulation comes on the heels of high-profile Indian personalities like Katrina Kaif and PM Modi himself being targeted through fake AI-generated videos and audio. Emphasizing the dangers of deepfakes, PM Modi highlighted global regulatory concerns around AI safety at the recent G20 summit.

Minister Vaishnaw announced that over the next 10 days, stakeholders will finalize precise policy actions to rein in deepfakes, including potential amendments to existing IT rules or new legislation altogether. Regulating Big Tech platforms where such content spreads will be a key thrust area.

Deepfakes represent an ethical dilemma with free speech arguments around parody colliding with privacy violations through impersonation. However, the meeting concluded that malicious deepfakes clearly overstep limits and require firm policy interventions.

Alarm bells have rung louder since the viral Modi deepfake video depicting him dancing at a Navratri event. While it turned out to be an actual Modi lookalike businessman, more sophisticated AI could fuel future impersonation attempts. Critics have also warned of national security threats from high-quality fakes inciting violence or unrest.

As AI democratizes faster than policy evolves, the government realizes the need for urgent rules before deepfakes trigger irreversible damage. With expert inputs on technical safeguards and defining red lines, India hopes its template regulations can inspire global consensus around deepfakes.
