45 Tonnes Of Laddus To Be Offered To Ram Lalla As Prasad During Ayodhya Pran Pratishtha

Grand preparations are underway in Ayodhya for the highly anticipated ‘Pran Pratishtha’ ceremony at the Ram Mandir on January 22nd. As part of the elaborate arrangements, around 45 tonnes of laddus are being specially prepared to be offered as prasad to the idol of Ram Lalla during the event.

A group of skilled confectioners from Varanasi and Gujarat have been working tirelessly since January 6th to craft a huge quantity of laddus with pure desi ghee. They are making approximately 1,200 kg of sweets every day which will cumulatively amount to 45 tonnes by January 22nd.

The aromatic laddus will be presented to Ram Lalla as part of the offerings by priests during the installation ritual, expected to be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with several other dignitaries.

Meanwhile, a 1008 Kund Havan Yagna has also been organized in Ayodhya in the run-up to the ceremony. Thousands of devotees arriving in the temple town will be served bhog meals after the culmination of the yagna. Luxurious tents have additionally been installed to accommodate over 15,000 visitors coming for Pran Pratishtha.

The grand celebration has tremendously boosted economic activity for local businesses. Shopowners have claimed their daily earnings have shot up 5 times due to high demand for Ram Mandir merchandise.

Elaborate security arrangements are in place across Ayodhya along with facilities for smooth travel and accommodation to ensure a safe and convenient experience for all attendees. With the temple trust and administration pulling out all stops, the stage is set for an iconic and spiritually rewarding Pran Pratishtha ceremony.

Indian Stocks Surge As IT Majors Post Strong Earnings

Sensex Surges Over 700 Points; Nifty Tops 21,600 As Banks Lead Rally

The Indian stock markets kicked off Friday’s trading session on a strong note, building on the positive momentum from the previous day. The benchmark BSE Sensex jumped over 600 points while the Nifty 50 surged nearly 180 points in early trade.

The information technology stocks spearheaded the rally after Index heavyweights Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Infosys posted better-than-expected earnings for the December quarter. Shares of Infosys zoomed nearly 7%, leading the Sensex pack while TCS jumped over 3%. Tech Mahindra and Wipro also climbed over 4% each. Besides IT, banking and realty stocks also witnessed strong buying interest.

The optimism on Dalal Street comes despite mixed cues from global markets and surging crude oil prices. Market analysts pointed out that the absence of any negative surprises or cautious commentary from IT firms in their earnings reports buoyed sentiment. Investors seemed to ignore macroeconomic headwinds as they lapped up stocks of sectors expected to remain resilient amid global uncertainties.

The broader markets also joined the rally as midcap and smallcap indices on BSE rose between 0.3-0.5%. Among other notable stocks, State Bank of India and HCL Technologies gained around 1-2% each. On the flipside, Bajaj Finserv, Asian Paints, and Maruti were among the notable losers. Friday’s rally has taken both Sensex and Nifty near their highest levels since April 2022.

Going ahead, stock-specific action will continue amid the ongoing Q3 earnings season. Investors will keenly await the financial results of other heavyweights like HDFC Bank, HUL, and HDFC Life next week which could influence the market trend.

Congress To Skip Ayodhya Event As Oppn Leaders Split On Attending Ram Temple Ceremony

Congress To Skip Ayodhya Event As Oppn Leaders Split On Attending Ram Temple Ceremony

The Congress party has announced its decision to not attend the grand Ram Mandir inauguration ceremony in Ayodhya on January 22nd. Party president Mallikarjun Kharge and senior leaders like Sonia Gandhi, Manmohan Singh, and Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury will be giving the mega event a miss.

The move has set off a political debate as other key opposition figures remain undecided on their participation. AITC’s Mamata Banerjee, CPI(M)’s Sitaram Yechury and CPI’s Brinda Karat have also declined their invites for the idol consecration rituals.

Meanwhile, the likes of Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, NCP’s Sharad Pawar, Shiv Sena’s Uddhav Thackeray, and SP chief Akhilesh Yadav are yet to confirm. BSP head Mayawati and Bihar CM Nitish Kumar are also among opposition leaders on the fence.

Congress has alleged the ruling BJP is politicizing the temple inauguration to reap electoral dividends. However, VHP Joint General Secretary Alok Kumar clarified that invites have been extended to leaders across party lines. BJP veteran L6K Advani will be gracing the high-profile ceremony.

The consecration rites, set to be attended by Prime Minister Modi, will culminate decades of legal and ideological struggle by the Hindu right-wing for a Ram temple at the disputed Babri Masjid site. The inaugural event signifies ideological and political consolidation for the BJP.

Congress seems wary of lending legitimacy to this bitterly divisive project months ahead of general elections. Its absence also spotlights opposition disunity despite Anti-BJP consolidation attempts in recent years. Symbolic regional satraps like Mamata and Nitish skipping the event could have helped mount a united front against BJP’s religious mobilization.

Taliban Detain, Lash Afghan Girls For Flouting Hijab Rules

The Taliban’s moral police have allegedly detained and lashed several young women in Kabul for violating strict hijab guidelines, accusations the fundamentalist group has denied.

The latest development adds to the mounting challenges faced by Afghan women. ( Image Source: Getty Images )

As per a 16-year-old victim Lale’s account to The Guardian, she was seized along with other girls from her English language class by Taliban enforcers. Those confronting the men were beaten, while she was whipped on her feet and legs after trying to reason with them. Her father was also badly assaulted later for “raising immoral girls”.

Lale said the Taliban labeled them “infidels” for learning English and harboring dreams of going abroad. She was freed only after village elders intervened and signed a pledge to not leave home without a headscarf. But she has now been barred from attending her classes altogether.

“I can no longer imagine anything for my future other than staying home and getting married. I don’t have the motivation to study after this,” the distressed teen added.

Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid has denied these were “usual practices” and claimed the arrests happened after families complained to the moral police about foreign groups influencing their daughters’ attire.

This comes within days of the UN Security Council proposing to appoint a special envoy to engage with the Taliban on women’s rights, which the hardliners dismissed. Experts warn such detention drives can further intimidate women in public life.

Over the last 16 months, the Taliban have issued decree after decree curtailing Afghan women’s rights and freedoms in direct contravention of their reform promises. These include barring girls from secondary education, mandatory face coverings, and severe limits on movement and work.

Rights groups have documented several instances of brutal crackdowns on women protesters rallying to demand their rights. The fundamentalist regime has also dissolved the women’s affairs ministry after barring most females from returning to government jobs.

Human rights observers say Taliban 2.0 has implemented the same repressive regime as its previous 1996-2001 stint in power despite initial pledges of upholding rights within the contours of Islam.

Abu Dhabi Decked Up To Welcome PM Modi For Grand Hindu Temple Opening

The stage is set for Prime Minister Narendra Modi to inaugurate the first traditional Hindu temple in Abu Dhabi on February 14th. The lavish ceremony will be hosted by the Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan (BAPS) Sanstha.

Swami Ishwarcharandas and Swami Brahmaviharidas, representing the BAPS Hindu Mandir, have invited PM Modi to attend the inauguration on behalf of the temple board. The event assumes special significance coming soon after the opening of the Ayodhya Ram Mandir.

The temple construction started in 2019 after the UAE government allocated land in Abu Dhabi. PM Modi will participate in the consecration ritual of seven deities on the 14th, while the public opening is slated for February 18th.

Architectural firm RSP designed the intricate pink sandstone edifice, incorporating thousands of hand-carved blocks from India. With a capacity for 8,000 to 10,000 visitors, the complex features prayer halls, gardens, shops, and a food court.

Standing 108 feet tall, the structure blends traditional Vedic design with contemporary elements. Visitors will be welcomed by water streams symbolizing the Ganga and Yamuna rivers. The temple is designed to last over 1,000 years as a place of unity.

The Rs. 700 crore Abu Dhabi Hindu temple project underlines the UAE’s commitment to promoting inter-faith harmony and cultural diversity. PM Modi’s presence indicates deepening India-UAE bonds spanning trade, energy, and the Indian diaspora.

As Abu Dhabi residents eagerly await the opening, the BAPS temple is set to serve as the fulcrum of the Hindu community in the region for current and future generations. The grand inauguration stands out as a new chapter in India-UAE ties.

Delhi Shivers At 3.3°C; Season's Lowest Temperature Amid Dense Fog

An intense cold wave gripped Delhi on Thursday leading to very poor visibility due to dense fog and a minimum temperature of 5.8°C – lower than the season’s average.

The fog cover resulted in the delay of 24 trains entering the capital in the early hours. Visuals showed people huddled around fires trying to keep warm as the cold wave tightened its grip.

Delhi’s Safdarjung observatory recorded a minimum temperature of 5.8°C while Lodhi Road logged 5.6°C. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said cold day conditions have prevailed in the capital for the past couple of days. Just yesterday, a yellow alert for similar conditions was issued in parts of the city.

Citizens took refuge in night shelters deployed by the government to provide the homeless population with blankets, beds, hot meals, and drinking water during extreme weather events. Schools have extended winter break for junior classes till January 12 given the harsh cold.

North Indian states like Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan have also been experiencing below-normal temperatures since early January. As per the IMD’s latest predictions, the region is expected to reel under dry and cold weather in the coming days.

While Delhi recorded its lowest minimum of the season at 5.3°C on Tuesday, the cold spell is projected to intensify this week based on forecasts. The weather office has urged governments to take necessary measures as exposure can lead to health risks.

Sensex Surges Over 700 Points; Nifty Tops 21,600 As Banks Lead Rally

The Indian stock markets opened higher on Thursday, building on the positive momentum from previous sessions. The BSE Sensex index rose 282.72 points to 71,940.43 at the opening, while the NSE Nifty 50 index climbed 84.65 points to 21,703.40.

In the first hour of trading, advances outpaced declines. Hero Motocorp, Axis Bank, Bajaj Finserv, HDFC Life, and Reliance were among the top Sensex gainers. On the flip side, Dr Reddy’s, Infosys, HCL Technologies, Sun Pharma, and Wipro saw some declines.

According to Varun Aggarwal, founder and MD of Profit Idea, the rebound from 10-day moving average support signals the Nifty’s return to a positive trend. He noted the recovery comes after a “false downside breakout” below 21,500.

Globally, Asian markets took cues from the upticks on Wall Street overnight. Japanese stocks hit multi-decade highs, aided by the weaker yen and a surge in US tech firms. Nikkei 225, Topix, Kospi, Hang Seng, and ASX 200 all traded higher in early deals.

Overnight stateside, the Dow rose 170 points, the S&P 500 added 27 points and Nasdaq surged 112 points to extend the tech-fuelled rally.

In commodities, oil prices edged up amid Middle East tensions although an unexpected build in US crude inventories limited gains. Gold also saw mild gains helped by the US dollar weakness ahead of key inflation data.

As Thursday’s session progresses, domestic traders seem focused on global cues while closely tracking economic releases for hints on the central bank’s policy stance.
