A famous choreographer in the Telugu film industry, Jani Master has been charged with an FIR after a former colleague accused him of sexual harassment done multiple times over several years.

Is Telugu Choreographer Jani Master a womanizer?

According to the complainant, she alleged the sexual assault started when she was just a ‘minor.’ Amid the accusation, a case has been filed against Jani Master, who is majorly known as a choreographer in blockbuster movies like Bahubali and Pushpa: The Rise.

She further alleged multiple events of sexual harassment. Due to this, she approached the Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce with allegations against the accused. The film body has a panel to deal with sexual abuse/assault cases.

Here’s what the panel chief said on this matter:

Talking to the media, Janshi, an actor and the chairperson of the designated panel said that the complainant was a minor when the assault was first started and this would even attract the provisions of the POSCO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act. The body took this matter into cognizance and advised her to approach the police.

Moreover, the film body also asked the Telugu dance directors’ body, of which Jani Master is president, not to allow him to discharge any function.

Who was the victim and was she threatened by the accused?

Amid the serious allegations, an FIR has been lodged instantly. Jani Master has been charged with rape and criminal intimation. In the complaint, the victim said that she worked as Jani Master’s assistant.

The choreographer had sexually harassed her multiple times during their outdoor shoots in different cities, she added. That’s not it, she also faced a threat to her life, when the accused threatened her that she wouldn’t get any work opportunities.

‘No’ Jana Sena events for Jani Master?

Jani Master is a member of the Pawan Kalyan-led Jana Sena, which is part of the ruling coalition in Andhra Pradesh. The Jana Sena said Jani Master has been asked to stay away from the party’s events.

Kangana Ranaut, a renowned actor and BJP MP, is still shrouded under dark clouds of controversy over her upcoming film ‘Emergency’. Now, she is in legal trouble since an advocate, named Ravinder Singh Bassi – a former president of the District Bar Association, in Chandigarh filed an application claiming the actor tried to crumble the image of Sikhs in her film.

Why does Kangana Ranaut get legal notice?

Citing the reason for filing a complaint against Ranaut, the advocate said that it just not only showcases a ‘wrong image’ of the Sikhs but also features several ‘false allegations’ against the community.

Amid the registered case, the court will take up the matter again on December 5.

Kangana Ranaut’s directorial venture ‘Emergency’ has become the talk of the town since Sikh organisations, including the Shiromani Akali Dal, accused it of misrepresenting the community and hampering the historical facts.

Did Emergency controversy make BJP MP sell her property?

Amid the row, the BJP MP said that she was forced to sell off her Mumbai property after the film’s release was postponed due to delay in getting a censor certificate. According to the reports, she sold her bungalow at Bandra’s Pali Hill for ₹ 32 crore.

Kangana, playing the role of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in ‘Emergency’, said, “I had staked my personal property on this film, which was supposed to come in theatres. Now it is not releasing, so the property is there, to be sold off in difficult times.”

About Film Emergency

Film ‘Emergency’ is a political drama, written by Kangana herself and co-produced by Zee Studios and the actor’s Mnikarnika Films. The film is based on the Emergency imposed by the former PM, Indira Gandhi, govt. In 1975.

Apart from Kangana, the film also features Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, Vishak Nair, Mahima Chaudhry and Milind Soman in lead roles.

When Kangana’s Emergency will be released?

This film was set to take the theatres last year, however, it was postponed to June this year. But luck is not on the cards for Kangana, therefore the film got postponed again to September 6 amid the Lok Sabha polls. But, with no approval from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), it is not clear when the movie will be released on the silver screens.

Amid the row, Zee Entertainment Enterprises approached the Bombay High Court earlier this month, seeking its intervention to clear the film for release. However, the court refused to grant any urgent relief.

Trump Labels India as ‘Abuser on Tarrifs’

Former US President Donald Trump referred to India as an “abuser” due to its high import tariffs while speaking in Michigan on Tuesday. However, he praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling him a “fantastic man.” Trump mentioned that he would meet PM Modi during his upcoming visit to the United States, scheduled from September 21 to 23.

“India is a major abuser when it comes to tariffs. Modi is coming to meet me next week, and he’s a fantastic person. Many of these leaders are,” Trump said, emphasizing that India imposes steep import tariffs. He also described India as “very tough,” alongside countries like Brazil and China. Trump noted that while China is the toughest in terms of trade, his administration had addressed this with tariffs.

Trump promised that if elected, he would implement “reciprocal trade,” meaning the US would match the tariffs imposed by other nations. “If someone charges us 10 cents or even 250%, we’ll charge them the same. This will either eliminate tariffs altogether or bring in significant revenue,” he stated.

This speech marked Trump’s first campaign appearance since a second assassination attempt in Florida. During Modi’s visit, he will participate in the Quad Leaders’ Summit alongside Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio, and US President Joe Biden. Modi will then travel to New York, where he will address a large community event in Long Island on September 22.

India’s IPO Market Defies Global Trends; Accounts for 25% in the First Half of 2024

0

India’s Initial Public Offering (IPO) market has emerged as an outlier, defying the global slowdown in public listings, according to a report by Angel One Wealth, a wealth management firm.

While the global IPO market peaked in 2021, India has continued to see robust demand for public listings over the past year, driven by strong domestic inflows and the rise of emerging sectors and companies. In the first half of 2024 alone, India accounted for a quarter of global IPO volumes, with the country now hosting the highest number of mainboard-listed companies globally, exceeding 5,450.

Globally, 2021 marked a record year for IPOs, with 2,388 companies raising USD 453.3 billion, the most in two decades. However, by 2023, India led with 178 IPOs, followed by China with 103, the US with 21, and the UK with 22.

The report also highlighted that the BSE IPO Index, with a 348% absolute gain, significantly outperformed the broader BSE 500 index’s 165% gain, largely due to strong listing performances. Notably, IPOs from small and medium enterprises (SMEs) outpaced mainboard IPOs in listing gains. Average listing gains for SME IPOs surged from 2% in 2019 to 74% in 2024, while mainboard IPOs saw gains of around 30% since peaking in 2020.

Companies from sectors such as consumer products, retail, industrial products, financial services, and healthcare were the most active in tapping the IPO market, according to the report.

A recent study by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) revealed a “disposition effect” among investors, where they were more likely to sell IPO shares with positive listing gains compared to those that listed at a loss. This study, covering 144 IPOs from April 2021 to December 2023, also found that stock returns significantly influenced investor behavior in selling decisions.

Microsoft Purchases Another Land Parcel in Pune’s Hinjewadi

0

Global tech giant Microsoft has made a significant investment of nearly ₹453 crore to acquire a 16.4-acre land parcel in Pune’s Hinjewadi, a major IT hub, according to property registration documents accessed by Square Yards.

The land purchase, registered in September 2024, involved 66,450 square meters (approximately 16.4 acres) bought from Viva Highways Limited. The deal, finalized on September 5, incurred a stamp duty of ₹27.18 crore and a registration fee of ₹30,000.

This follows a similar acquisition by Microsoft of over 16 acres in Hinjewadi earlier for ₹519.72 crore. With these purchases, Microsoft has invested a total of ₹972 crore in Pune’s real estate over the past month. The company’s growing investments in India’s commercial real estate include data centers, development centers, and flexible office spaces.

In 2022, Microsoft acquired 10.89 lakh square feet of commercial land in Pune from Finolex Industries for ₹328.84 crore. Earlier in 2024, the company secured 48 acres of land in Hyderabad for ₹267 crore.

Anand Moorthy, co-founder and CBO of Capital Market & Services at Square Yards, noted, “India is the most exciting market for tech expansion right now, with a strong talent pool and maturing infrastructure. Our research shows more tech-oriented global companies are expanding their presence in India for office spaces, development centers, and data centers.”

Real estate data from Anarock revealed that 101 separate land deals, totaling approximately 2,989 acres, were sealed across India in FY 2023-24. Among the top cities, the National Capital Region (NCR) led with 29 deals covering over 313 acres, followed by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) with 19 deals for more than 157 acres.

Iran Frees Austrian Citizen From Prison Right Before Sentence End

Iran has granted early release to Austrian citizen Christian Weber, who was originally convicted of offenses including espionage, Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer announced on Tuesday.

“I am very pleased that the Foreign Ministry and our embassy in Tehran have successfully secured the early release of Christian Weber from Iranian custody,” Nehammer shared on the social media platform X.

He added that the Austrian embassy in Tehran is now working diligently to ensure Weber can leave the country as soon as possible and reunite with his family in Austria.

Both Austria and Iran have disclosed little about the case, which Vienna first revealed in late 2022. This was during a period of widespread anti-government protests in Iran, triggered by the death of Mahsa Amini, a Kurdish woman who died in custody after allegedly violating dress code laws. Austria had clarified at the time that Weber’s charges were unrelated to the Amini case.

In February, Austria’s foreign minister stated that Weber’s espionage conviction had been overturned on appeal, and his sentence for other unspecified offenses had been reduced by half.

On Tuesday, Austria’s foreign ministry said that “administrative steps” still need to be finalized with Iranian authorities.

According to the Iranian judiciary’s Mizan news agency, Weber had been detained for crimes in West Azerbaijan Province and was released out of Islamic mercy. The report noted that Weber was handed over to Austria’s ambassador to arrange his departure, though the specific crime for which he was jailed was not disclosed. Calls to the Austrian embassy outside regular business hours went unanswered, and Iran’s judiciary was not immediately available for comment.

Supreme Court Shunts Bengal Govt’s ‘No-Night Shift’ Order

Kolkata Rape and Murder: Supreme Court Criticizes West Bengal Government Over Night Shift Policy for Female Doctors

The Supreme Court on Tuesday criticized the West Bengal government for its notification instructing state-run hospitals not to assign female doctors to night shifts, stating that women require security, not special treatment.

The notification was issued following the August 9 rape and murder of a doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

While hearing the case suo moto, Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud questioned the state’s decision through counsel Kapil Sibal, asking, “Why restrict women doctors from working at night? They do not want a concession; they are willing to work the same shifts.” He emphasized that the solution lies in enhancing security measures, not limiting work opportunities. The court directed the Bengal government to amend the notification accordingly.

CJI Chandrachud further noted, “It is the government’s duty to provide security. You cannot stop women from working night shifts, as women in professions such as pilots and army personnel work during these hours.”

During the hearing, the Supreme Court also asked Wikipedia to remove the victim’s name from its platform.

What Happened at the State-Run Hospital in Kolkata?

The victim, a female doctor, was discovered raped and murdered after she had gone to sleep in the hospital’s seminar room during a demanding 36-hour shift on August 9.

The police arrested a civic volunteer, Sanjay Roy, in connection with the crime. The case has since been transferred to the CBI.

The incident sparked protests from thousands of junior doctors demanding justice for the brutal crime. On Monday, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee reached an agreement with the protesting doctors, agreeing to their primary demand—the removal of the police commissioner, a DCP, and two senior health officers. However, she refused to dismiss the health secretary.

Kapil Sibal informed the court that Banerjee assured no punitive action would be taken against doctors who return to work.

Supreme Court Halts Bulldozer Demolitions Across India

0

The Supreme Court on Tuesday halted bulldozer demolitions across India until October 1, unless they are on public roads, water bodies, or railway lines, and require the Court’s permission. The Court also stated that it would establish guidelines on how and when properties can be demolished under municipal laws.

Last week, a Supreme Court bench comprising Justices Hrishikesh Roy, Sudhanshu Dhulia, and SVN Bhatti criticized “bulldozer justice,” noting that such demolition threats are unthinkable in a country where the rule of law prevails.

The case arose when municipal authorities in Gujarat threatened to demolish the house of a family, one of whose members was named in an FIR. The petitioner, a co-owner of the property in Kathlal, Kheda district, brought the case to the Supreme Court. The petitioner’s lawyer argued that the family had lived in the houses for about two decades.

“In a country governed by the rule of law, the actions of one family member cannot justify action against other members or their legally constructed homes. Being accused of a crime is not a valid reason for demolishing property,” the bench remarked.

Guidelines to regulate demolitions: Supreme Court
On September 2, the Supreme Court indicated that it would issue guidelines to regulate demolitions across India. “We are looking at broad guidelines to prevent unregulated demolitions. There should be documentation, notice, time to file a reply, and an opportunity to pursue legal remedies before demolition… we aim to resolve this issue on a national scale,” stated the bench of Justices Bhushan R Gavai and KV Viswanathan.

Shreyas Iyer has No Place in Test Team; BCCI’s Verdict

0

Three years ago, Shreyas Iyer made an impressive Test debut with a century against New Zealand in Kanpur. However, since then, the format has not been favorable to him. His vulnerability to short-pitched deliveries became apparent early in his international career, hindering his progress as a reliable overseas Test player. To make matters worse, his performance even at home suffered, with just 146 runs in eight innings over the last two years in India.

Iyer was dropped from the Indian Test team earlier this year, midway through a series against England, and was also excluded from the BCCI’s central contract list. The 2024 Duleep Trophy offered him a chance at redemption, especially with the Bangladesh Test series approaching. Despite being named captain of the D team, Iyer managed only 104 runs in four innings, including a duck and one half-century.

Speaking to The Telegraph, a BCCI official issued a blunt assessment following Iyer’s disappointing Duleep Trophy performance, casting doubt on his future in the Indian Test team. “There’s no room for Shreyas in the Test team right now. Who will he replace? His shot selection has been concerning, particularly in the Duleep Trophy. He was well set but played an unnecessary shot off left-arm spinner Shams Mulani. When you’re batting on a flat track, you need to make the most of the opportunity,” the official remarked.

‘Iyer won’t go to Australia’
Iyer still has a chance to improve his form in the third and final round of the Duleep Trophy later this week, followed by the Irani Cup, where he is expected to play for the Mumbai squad. This will coincide with his national duties for the T20 series against Bangladesh, and he will also have the 2024/25 Ranji Trophy season to prove himself. However, another BCCI official suggested that even if Iyer regains his form, he is unlikely to be selected for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy squad.

“Shreyas could be part of the Mumbai squad for the Irani Cup starting October 1 in Lucknow. Even if he’s picked for the Bangladesh T20Is, he might still play the Irani and join the T20 side from the second match onwards. If he doesn’t perform in the Irani Cup, he will still have the Ranji Trophy to score runs,” the official added.

The official acknowledged Iyer’s previous good form in last year’s ODI World Cup and the injury he suffered, which should be taken into account. “There’s still one round left in the Duleep Trophy, and he could score a hundred. While it’s unlikely he’ll go to Australia because of his weakness against the short ball, his runs at home cannot be overlooked,” the official concluded.
