Indian archery sensation Deepika Kumari added another feather to her cap, securing her sixth World Cup Final medal with a silver finish in the women’s recurve event. Despite a 0-6 defeat against China’s Li Jiaman in the final, Deepika’s performance throughout the tournament was commendable.

The 2010 Commonwealth Games champion exhibited exceptional skill in the quarter and semi-finals. She convincingly defeated Yang Xiaolei, another Chinese archer, by a score of 6-0. In the semi-finals, Deepika outperformed Alejandra Valencia, the eventual bronze medalist, by a narrow margin of 6-4.

“It’s a great honour to participate in this World Cup and to win a medal,” Deepika expressed after her match. “This victory will motivate me to work even harder in the future.”

Who received the gold in the Archery World Cup Final?

Li Jiaman, the eventual gold medalist, secured her title in the final match on her first attempt. The World Cup Final features eight of the top archers from each event (compound and recurve) per gender, qualified based on their performance in the three World Cup stages or their world ranking.

Reflecting on her performance, Li said, “The first match was quite tense, but the subsequent matches were a bit less challenging. I was still giving my best, but I wasn’t as nervous as I was in the beginning. My focus was solely on delivering the best arrows, without dwelling too much on winning or losing.”

The Indian team, comprising three compound and two recurve archers, concluded their campaign at the World Cup Final with one medal. Deepika’s consistent performance has solidified her position as one of the leading archers in the world.

Bigg Boss 18: Salman Khan shares hidden pain says, ‘Going through lot in life yet…’

Bigg Boss 18: In a surprising twist on the latest episode of Bigg Boss 18, host Salman Khan brought a dose of real-world drama to the reality TV stage. The Bollywood superstar, known for his tough-love approach with contestants, revealed a more vulnerable side amid reports of heightened security following death threats from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.

Bigg Boss 18: Salman Khan on how he is going through…

Yaar, kasam khuda ki (I swear), what all I am going through in my life, and I have to handle this,” Khan remarked with palpable exasperation during Saturday’s ‘Weekend Ka Vaar‘ episode.

His candid moment came as he addressed the contestants’ petty squabbles, which suddenly seemed trivial in comparison to his off-screen challenges.

Speaking to contestant Shilpa Shirodkar, Khan confessed, “Aaj ki meri yeh feeling hai ki mujhe yahan aana hi nahi chahiye tha. But yeh ek commitment hai, isliye main yahan pe aaya hoon (Today, I feel like I shouldn’t have come here, but it’s a commitment, so I came).”

Why did Salman Khan say this?

The actor’s sombre mood was reportedly linked to the recent murder of his friend, NCP leader Baba Siddique, who was shot dead in Mumbai on October 12.

Sources told the media that Salman Khan was “devastated” by the loss.

With a change in mood, Chahat proposed to Salman!

Despite the heavy atmosphere, the show must go on. In a light-hearted moment, contestant Chaahat Pandey jokingly proposed marriage to the bachelor superstar. Khan, showcasing his trademark wit, replied, “The qualities you mentioned, I don’t possess any of them. Plus, I wouldn’t get along with your mother at all.”

Behind the scenes, security was tight. Over 60 personnel were present during filming, with strict Aadhaar card verification required for entry. It’s a stark reminder that even in the glitzy world of showbiz, real-life concerns can’t be scripted away.

As Bigg Boss 18 continues, viewers are left wondering: Will his trials affect his on-screen persona? Or will the show provide a welcome distraction from his off-camera challenges? One thing’s for certain – in this season of Bigg Boss, the most compelling drama might just be happening outside the house.

Trump flips burgers at McDonald’s says, ‘I worked 15 mins more than Harris…’

Donald Trump

In an unexpected twist to the heated US presidential race, Republican candidate Donald Trump traded his signature suit for a McDonald’s apron on Sunday, serving up a sizzling blend of fast food and political barbs in Feasterville-Trevose, Pennsylvania.

Donald Trump making fries, burgers at McDonald’s?

The former president, known more for his golden towers than golden arches, stepped behind the counter of a bustling McDonald’s outlet, fulfilling what he jokingly called a lifelong dream. “I’ve wanted to do this all my life,” Trump quipped, as he donned the iconic black and yellow uniform.

With the precision of a seasoned fry cook (or at least an enthusiastic amateur), Trump plunged baskets of fries into bubbling oil, liberally sprinkled salt, and scooped the crispy potatoes into their cardboard homes. The impromptu shift wasn’t just about satisfying a culinary curiosity, however. It was a calculated political move, aimed squarely at his Democratic rival, Vice President Kamala Harris.

Donald Trump vs Kamala Harris

Harris has long touted her experience working at McDonald’s during her college years in 1980s California, using it to bolster her “middle-class background” narrative. Trump, never one to let an opportunity for a zinger pass, seized the moment to question Harris’s claims.

“It was a big part of her resume that she worked at McDonald’s — how tough a job it was,” Trump said, his voice dripping with scepticism. “She made the french fries, and she talked about the heat: ‘It was so tough.’ She’s never worked at McDonald’s.”

‘Worked for 15 mins more than…’

Then came the punchline, delivered with all the subtlety of a Big Mac to the face: “I’ve now worked for 15 minutes more than Kamala.”

The political theatre drew a large crowd to the Bucks County location, a crucial swing voter region just north of Philadelphia. Supporters lined the streets, their cheers mixing with the sizzle of frying oil and the beep of drive-thru orders.

Trump, ever the showman, revelled in the attention. “Look at the crowd over here. They are so happy because they have hope. They need hope,” he declared, somehow managing to turn fast food into a metaphor for the American dream.

When asked about Harris’s 60th birthday, which happened to fall on the same day, Trump showcased his unique brand of political etiquette. “I would say, ‘Happy Birthday, Kamala,'” he offered, before adding with a mischievous grin, “I think I’ll get her some flowers.”

Elon Musk shares video of Trump

The stunt didn’t go unnoticed in the business world. Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk shared a video of Trump’s fry-cooking exploits, dubbing it “awesome” in a tweet that quickly went viral.

As both candidates crisscross Pennsylvania in the final weeks before the November 5 election, it’s clear that every photo op, every handshake, and now every french fry counts. With hundreds of millions of dollars pouring into the state from both parties, the race for the White House is heating up faster than a deep fryer on a busy lunch rush.

In the end, whether Trump’s McDonald’s adventure will sway voters remains to be seen. But one thing’s for certain: in the high-stakes world of presidential politics, sometimes you have to be willing to get your hands greasy.

Delhi’s Air Quality deteriorates to ‘Very Poor’ as Diwali approaches

Delhi’s air quality plummeted to the ‘very poor’ category just a week before Diwali, with several areas in the capital region recording an Air Quality Index (AQI) of over 300, according to data from SAFAR-India. A thick fog blanketed parts of the city on Monday morning, reducing visibility as the AQI fell to 307.

Delhi’s AQI falls into very poor

The AQI scale categorizes air quality from ‘good’ (0-50) to ‘severe’ (401-500), with Delhi’s current status falling in the ‘very poor’ range (301-400). This decline in air quality is attributed largely to stubble burning in neighbouring agrarian states like Punjab and Haryana, a practice that releases significant amounts of smoke and particulates into the atmosphere each autumn.

SAFAR-India reports that stubble burning contributed 1.7% to Delhi’s PM2.5 pollution on Sunday, with projections indicating an increase to 7% by Tuesday. PM2.5, or fine particulate matter, consists of tiny particles and droplets in the air measuring 2.5 micrometres or less in diameter, smaller than the width of a human hair.

Political row over environmental crisis in Delhi

The deteriorating air quality has sparked political debate. BJP Delhi chief Virendra Sachdeva criticized the Aam Aadmi Party-led government for inaction, stating to ANI, “They set up a smog tower worth Rs 20 crore, but that ‘crematorium’ still stands there. It doesn’t function. In the last 10 years, they have turned Delhi into hell.”

In response, Delhi Chief Minister Atishi and Environment Minister Gopal Rai inspected pollution control measures at the Anand Vihar bus depot on Sunday. Atishi identified the influx of buses from other states as a major contributor to pollution in the Anand Vihar area and announced plans to engage with the Uttar Pradesh government to implement anti-pollution measures at their nearby bus depot.

As Diwali approaches, concerns grow about the potential further deterioration of air quality due to increased vehicular traffic and fireworks. The situation underscores the urgent need for comprehensive and coordinated efforts to address Delhi’s persistent air pollution problem.

Pouch vs Tetra Pak: Which Milk is Safer?

0
Milk
Milk

In a world where convenience often trumps tradition, the humble milk carton has become an unexpected battleground for consumer preferences. Remember those family trips abroad, where packing tetra paks of milk was as essential as your passport? Or the pandemic-induced hoarding that saw these long-life cartons fly off the shelves? Yet, for many Indians, there’s still something about carton milk that doesn’t quite hit the spot. But is our scepticism justified, or are we crying over spilt misconceptions?

Milk in Pouches or Milk in Tetra Pak?

Let’s pour over the facts and cream off the truth about UHT milk versus its pouch counterpart.

Veena V, a chief clinical dietitian at Aster Whitefield Hospital in Bengaluru, gives us the lowdown on UHT milk: “Tetra Pak, or ultra-high temperature (UHT) milk, is milk that has been treated by ultra-high temperature processing in order to be stored for a long time under normal conditions without requiring refrigeration until the package is opened.”

Picture this: milk being blasted with temperatures hotter than the surface of Venus (okay, not quite, but close) at 135°C to 150°C. This cosmic heat zaps away all the nasties, allowing the milk to boldly go where no milk has gone before – onto unrefrigerated shelves for months on end.

Which of these milk tastes better?

But what about the taste? Well, it’s a bit like the milk equivalent of an astronaut’s space food – safe, and nutritious, but perhaps lacking that fresh-from-the-cow zing. The high heat gives UHT milk a slight “cooked” or “caramelized” flavour that might make your taste buds do a double-take.

On the flip side, we have the familiar pouch milk – the plucky underdog of the dairy world. Heated to a modest 72°C for a mere 15 seconds, it’s like the milk equivalent of a quick summer tan compared to UHT’s full-body sunburn. This gentler treatment means pouch milk keeps more of its natural enzymes and flavours, but at the cost of a shorter shelf life.

Here’s what experts say:

Dr. Nimra Choudhary, a general physician at Prakash Hospital, NCR, weighs in on the safety debate: “Both UHT and pouch milk are safe and nutritionally similar. UHT milk undergoes more processing but remains safe due to the high heat, which kills bacteria. Pouch milk may be preferred for its fresher taste, but both are healthy options.”

But what about those precious nutrients? Are they casualties in this heat treatment war? Studies show that UHT processing does cause some protein changes, with these milk molecules doing a molecular dance of unfolding and sticking together. It’s like a protein rave party in there! However, fear not – most of the nutritional goodness survives the heat.

Does milk in packaging contain nutrients?

Veena V reassures us, “Research proves that the protein levels in UHT milk are mostly unscathed because the high heat treatment affects only certain vitamins, like Vitamin B12 and Vitamin C, which lead to spoilage of milk over time. In addition to this, UHT milk is also suggested for some people as a nutritionally beneficial option because a large portion of the nutrients, including other macro minerals like calcium and phosphorus, are still found in the milk even after processing.”

So, which milk should you be putting in your shopping cart? Well, it depends on whether you’re Team Convenience or Team Fresh-and-Creamy.

If you’re always on the go, with a fridge as empty as your social calendar during lockdown, UHT milk might be your dairy knight in shining armour. It’s perfect for those “just in case” moments and reduces the risk of crying over spoiled milk.

But if you’re all about that farm-fresh flavour and don’t mind frequent fridge restocks, pouch milk is your creamy companion. Its less processed nature means it retains more of those natural enzymes and flavours, giving you a thicker, creamier experience that might make your taste buds do a happy dance.

What is your preference?

In the end, both types of milk have their place in the dairy aisle and in our hearts. Whether you’re a UHT devotee or a pouch milk purist, you’re still getting a healthy dose of calcium and other essential nutrients.

So next time you’re faced with the great milk dilemma, remember: whether it comes in a space-age carton or a humble pouch, it’s all about finding the option that fits your lifestyle and tickles your taste buds. After all, in the grand scheme of things, isn’t the most important question just: “Got milk?”

Yamuna Choked by Toxic Foam, Delhi AQI Worsens

In a concerning development for Delhi residents, the national capital faced a dual environmental challenge on Friday. The average air quality index (AQI) remained in the poor category at 293, while severe frothing was observed in the Yamuna River, with large sections covered in white foam.

Frothing observed in Yamuna River in Delhi

Environmental experts warned that the foam, rich in ammonia and phosphates, poses significant health risks. “This kind of foam formation is common when fats from decaying plants and pollutants mix with the water, but its presence during the monsoon is surprising,” one expert told PTI. They attributed the unusual frothing to the absence of flood spells that typically wash away pollutants.

Delhi’s AQI report

The air quality situation was equally concerning. Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data revealed that by 9 am Friday, several parts of Delhi had entered the ‘very poor’ AQI category (301-400).

Wazirpur in north Delhi recorded an AQI of 379, while Vivek Vihar in east Delhi stood at 327. Central Delhi’s Shadipur and west Delhi’s Punjabi Bagh reported figures of 337 and 312 respectively.

Here’s what the Delhi Minister said:

In response to the worsening conditions, Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai announced measures to combat pollution. “Different local sources of pollution have been identified at 13 hotspots in the capital,” Rai stated. He added that 80 anti-smog guns would be deployed to control dust, and each hotspot would have a coordination committee to address local pollution sources.

BJP slams AAP govt. over environmental crisis

The environmental crisis has also sparked political debate. North East Delhi MP and BJP leader Manoj Tiwari criticized the AAP government, saying, “Arvind Kejriwal was the chief minister for 10 years and Atishi has been in the post for a month. They have no intention of tackling pollution and letting the people of Delhi breathe.”

Rai countered these accusations, stating, “We are doing everything to curb pollution. It is the Arvind Kejriwal government that ensured 24-hour power and reduced the smoke from generators. The BJP is a party that spreads pollution, our party reduces it.”

As Delhi grapples with these environmental challenges, experts urge immediate action, especially with major festivals like Chhath Puja approaching. The situation underscores the urgent need for comprehensive and collaborative efforts to address both air and water pollution in the national capital.

Who is Yahya Sinwar, Hamas chief claimed to be killed by Israel?

Yahya Sinwar
Yahya Sinwar

Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar was killed by Israeli soldiers on Wednesday, according to Israel. This news has been confirmed by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and the Israel Security Agency. However, no official confirmation has been made by Hamas yet.

Who is Yahya Sinwar, the Hamas Chief?

Yahya Sinwar, born in October 1962 in the Khan Younis refugee camp in the southern Gaza Strip, is a prominent Hamas leader. He received his education in Khan Younis and graduated from the Islamic University of Gaza with a bachelor’s degree in Arabic studies.

Sinwar’s involvement with Hamas led to multiple arrests by Israeli authorities. His first arrest came in 1982 at age 20, followed by several subsequent detentions. In 1988, he was sentenced to four life terms for his role in the kidnapping and murder of two Israeli soldiers and the killing of four Palestinians suspected of collaborating with Israel.

How did Yahya Sinwar become prominent for Hamas?

During his imprisonment, Sinwar became a key figure among Hamas prisoners, leading the Supreme Leadership Committee of Hamas inmates. He used his time in prison to study Hebrew and write on political, security, and literary topics.

In 2011, Sinwar was released as part of a prisoner exchange for Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit. Following his release, he quickly rose through Hamas’s ranks. In 2012, he was elected to Hamas’s political bureau, taking charge of security matters. By 2013, he assumed leadership of Hamas’s military wing, the al-Qassam Brigades.

Sinwar’s influence within Hamas continued to grow. In 2017, he was elected as the head of Hamas’s political bureau in Gaza, a position to which he was re-elected in 2021 for a second four-year term.

Yahya and his rare public appearances

Known for his cautious nature, Sinwar rarely makes public appearances. His residence has reportedly been targeted multiple times during conflicts between Hamas and Israel.

Sinwar is widely considered to have played a significant role in planning the October 7, 2023 attack on Israel, which led to the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

Although Yahya Sinwar remains a key figure in Hamas leadership, and Ismail Haniyeh continues to serve as the overall leader of Hamas, the situation in the region remains volatile and deadly for civilians.

Salman Khan gets New Threat: Pay Rs 5 crore or it will be Worse than…

In a concerning development, Mumbai Traffic Police received a threatening message allegedly from a member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, demanding Rs 5 crore from Bollywood actor Salman Khan.

Bishnoi gang demands Rs 5cr from Salman Khan

The message warned of dire consequences if the demand was not met, stating, “If Salman Khan wants to stay alive and wants to end the enmity with Lawrence Bishnoi, then he will have to pay Rs 5 crore. Do not take this lightly, otherwise, Salman Khan’s condition will be worse than Baba Siddique’s.”

Fresh threat to Salman Khan

This threat comes in the wake of the recent murder of NCP leader Baba Siddique, a close friend of Khan, who was shot dead on October 12 outside his son’s office in Bandra.

The police have arrested four individuals in connection with Siddique’s killing, with Shubham Lonkar, a suspected key conspirator, claiming on social media that the Lawrence Bishnoi gang was responsible for the murder.

The ongoing feud between Khan and the Bishnoi gang stems from a 1998 incident where the actor allegedly hunted and killed two blackbucks, animals considered sacred by Bishnoi’s community. Despite being incarcerated, Bishnoi has reportedly orchestrated several high-profile killings, including that of Punjabi singer Siddhu Moosewala.

Salman Khan gets Y+ security

In response to these escalating threats, authorities have heightened security measures for Khan. The actor has been granted Y+ security, and a substantial police presence has been deployed outside his residence, Galaxy Apartments.

Additionally, Mumbai Police have installed AI-enabled high-resolution CCTV cameras with facial recognition technology to bolster surveillance.

This incident marks the latest in a series of threats faced by Khan from the Bishnoi gang, including a shooting incident outside his residence in April. As the investigation into the recent threat unfolds, concerns about the safety of public figures and the reach of organized crime groups continue to mount.
