Saudi Arabia has commenced construction on The Mukaab, a colossal cubic structure in Riyadh that aims to become the world’s largest building. The ambitious project, estimated to cost $50 billion, will stand 1,300 feet high and 1,200 feet wide, with dimensions vast enough to encompass 20 Empire State Buildings.

Saudi Arabia to build World’s largest building – The Mukaab

The Mukaab, which will feature 2 million square metres of floor space, represents a key component of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s “Saudi Vision 2030” economic transformation plan. This initiative seeks to diversify the Kingdom’s economy beyond oil revenues, targeting a $51 billion increase in non-oil GDP and the creation of 334,000 jobs.

The development will integrate residential units, hotels, offices, retail spaces, and entertainment facilities within its massive frame. Advanced technology will play a central role, with plans for AI-powered experiences and exterior displays similar to the Las Vegas Sphere.

The Mukaab: Architecture & design

Architects have incorporated elements of Saudi Arabia’s cultural heritage into the design. The cubic structure reflects traditional Najdi architecture, known for its mud-brick construction and geometric patterns. The surrounding landscape will mirror the region’s natural wadis or dry riverbeds.

According to official plans, the broader district will include more than 104,000 residential units and 9,000 hotel rooms, along with retail establishments, office complexes, and community spaces.

Resemblance to the Kaaba & Mecca

However, the project has attracted criticism from multiple angles. Some observers have noted The Mukaab’s controversial resemblance to the Kaaba, Islam’s holiest site in Mecca. Human rights organizations have also expressed concerns regarding potential migrant worker exploitation during construction and possible displacement of residents.

The megastructure represents Saudi Arabia’s latest effort to establish itself as a global architectural and technological pioneer. It follows other ambitious projects within the Kingdom’s extensive urban development program.

Cricket icon MS Dhoni has finally weighed in on the viral phenomenon “Thala for a reason,” the meme that turned simple mathematics into a national obsession. The former Indian captain, whose mystique seems to grow even after retirement from international cricket, shared his thoughts at a RIGI event about the trend that has dominated social media since December 2023.

‘Thala for a reason’: MS Dhoni speaks on a meme

The meme, which playfully connects everything to MS Dhoni through the number seven (his iconic jersey number and birth date), has taken on a life of its own, with even IPL franchises jumping on the bandwagon. But what does the man himself think about it?

“I know about it. But I don’t know the reason behind it,” Dhoni admitted with his characteristic calm. “I don’t know if it is funny, if it is supposed to pull my leg, it’s a banter, it’s a meme.” In true Dhoni style, he credited his fans for turning the trend in his favor, demonstrating once again why he’s earned the nickname ‘Captain Cool.’

CSK Fans loves MS Dhoni!

The Chennai Super Kings legend praised his supporters’ fierce loyalty: “I have got brilliant fans. I don’t need to open my mouth or say something. If they feel somebody has been nasty to me, they take care of it.” With his trademark smile, he added, “So I am keeping quiet, enjoying my life and trying to play good cricket. And that’s what it is for me.”

But the real bombshell came when Dhoni hinted at his continued presence in IPL 2025, suggesting he wants to “enjoy the last couple of years he has left in him in the game.” This revelation sent waves through the cricket community, proving that even at this stage of his career, Dhoni continues to keep fans on their toes.

As for the meme that started it all? Well, that’s just another feather in the cap of the man who turned seven into more than just a number – Thala for a reason, indeed!

Ratan Tata’s Will: In a heartwarming revelation that perfectly encapsulates the humanitarian spirit of Ratan Tata, his estimated Rs 10,000 crore estate will benefit not only his family but also extends to his loyal staff and beloved German Shepherd, Tito, according to The Times of India.

Ratan Tata’s Will: Share for dog & butler

The former Tata Sons Chairman, who passed away on October 9 at age 86, has made provisions for “unlimited care” for Tito in his will, entrusting his longtime cook, Rajan Shaw, with the dog’s care. This gesture reflects Tata’s well-documented love for animals, particularly dogs, which defined many of his personal and philanthropic choices throughout his life.

The will, currently awaiting probate at the Bombay High Court, reveals Tata’s characteristic thoughtfulness in providing for those close to him. His loyal butler of over three decades, Subbiah, and executive assistant Shantanu Naidu are among the beneficiaries. Known for his generosity, Tata often purchased designer clothes for both Subbiah and Shaw during their international travels together.

In a particularly magnanimous gesture, Tata relinquished his stake in Goodfellows, Naidu’s companionship venture, and waived the latter’s educational loan for overseas studies. The estate distribution also includes bequests to his brother Jimmy Tata and half-sisters Shireen and Deanna Jeejabhoy.

What are Ratan Tata’s substantial assets?

Ratan Tata’s substantial assets include a 2,000-square-foot beach bungalow in Alibaug, a two-storey house on Mumbai’s Juhu Tara road, fixed deposits exceeding Rs 350 crore, and a 0.83% stake in Tata Sons.

The stake will be transferred to the Ratan Tata Endowment Foundation (RTEF), while his numerous awards and recognitions will be preserved at the Tata Central Archives for future generations.

Tito: Ratan Tata’s beloved dog

Tito, adopted around six years ago following the death of Tata’s previous dog of the same name, represents the industrialist’s enduring commitment to animal welfare. This commitment was evident in July 2023 when Tata inaugurated India’s first Small Animal Hospital in Mumbai’s Mahalaxmi area, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities including ICUs, HDUs, CT scans, X-Rays, and MRI services.

His dedication to his pets once prompted him to skip receiving an award from Prince Charles in 2018 due to an ailing dog. The Prince’s response captured the essence of Tata’s character: “That’s a man. That’s the man Ratan is. That’s why the house of Tata is what it is.”

Ratan Tata’s Will: A Legacy for All

The provisions in Tata’s will mirror his lifelong principles of caring for both humans and animals. His relationship with Naidu began through a startup focused on stray dogs, further illustrating how his love for animals influenced both his personal and professional decisions.

This final testament stands as a powerful reminder of Ratan Tata’s multifaceted legacy – one that encompasses not only his business acumen but also his deep compassion for those around him, regardless of their species or station in life.

Delhi Pollution Crisis: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) announced on Thursday a substantial fund allocation of Rs 2.4 crore across its 12 zones to tackle the capital’s persistent air quality issues. The announcement comes as Delhi-NCR experiences a marginal improvement in air quality due to strong winds.

MCD allocates Rs 2.4 crore to combat Delhi Pollution

Each zone will receive Rs 20 lakh to bolster dust control measures, including the deployment of sprinklers and additional manpower. The initiative aims to address the city’s pollution challenges, primarily stemming from dust accumulation and stubble burning in neighbouring states.

The comprehensive plan includes enhanced utilization of anti-smog guns and dust suppressants, with Zonal Deputy Commissioners overseeing debris collection and enforcing strict dust control measures at construction sites. Weekly cleaning operations will target Public Works Department (PWD) roads to minimize dust accumulation, while daily inspections will ensure compliance with pollution control measures.

Delhi Lt Governor chairs a meeting with officials

Earlier on Thursday, Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena chaired a meeting where key suggestions emerged, including the deployment of mechanical road sweeping (MRS) trucks and the installation of rotating smog guns on high-rise buildings. The Lt Governor emphasized the urgency of reducing internal pollution sources in the national capital.

Following the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) meeting, the Lt Governor instructed both the MCD and Delhi Development Authority (DDA) to intensify efforts in collecting construction and demolition waste, dried-up silt, and road dust.

The MCD has pledged to strictly adhere to CAQM directives and implement all feasible measures to combat air pollution. This initiative represents a significant step in Delhi’s ongoing battle against deteriorating air quality, combining financial commitment with practical measures for immediate impact.

YouTube is turning its Indian creators into digital shopkeepers with the launch of YouTube Shopping, bringing a new meaning to the phrase “like and subscribe.” The platform’s latest monetization feature, already a hit in South Korea and the US, allows creators to transform their videos into virtual storefronts.

YouTube to star – ‘YouTube Shopping’ in India

The program, which went live on Friday, lets eligible creators tag products from major e-commerce giants Flipkart and Myntra in their content – be it traditional videos, bite-sized Shorts, or livestreams. Viewers can browse these products without leaving their entertainment bubble, making impulse shopping even more tempting across web, mobile, and connected TV platforms.

But there’s a catch – not every content creator gets to join this digital bazaar. YouTube has set some ground rules: channels must be part of the YouTube Partner Program, call India home, and boast more than 10,000 subscribers. Sorry, kids’ channels and music channels – this shopping spree isn’t for you.

What benefits will be given to YouTube creators?

The reward for qualifying creators? A commission on their viewers’ entire purchase when they shop through tagged links. Creators can play digital visual merchandiser with up to 30 product tags per video, with commission rates displayed during the tagging process.

However, YouTube’s keeping things clean – channels with Community Guideline Strikes in sensitive areas won’t get an invitation to this shopping party. Videos with claimed content will also stay tag-free.

How to turn YouTube channel into a shopping destination?

Ready to turn your channel into a shopping destination? The sign-up process is straightforward:

  • Log in to YouTube Studio
  • Click on ‘Earn’ in the left menu
  • Head to ‘Programs’ > ‘Join Now’
  • Accept the terms of service

This move marks YouTube’s latest effort to transform from a mere video platform into a comprehensive entertainment and shopping destination, potentially revolutionizing how Indians shop online. With this launch, the line between content creation and e-commerce just got a lot blurrier – and potentially a lot more profitable for creators.

In the high-stakes world of professional chess, where prodigies are plentiful but superstars are rare, 20-year-old Arjun Erigaisi has emerged as India’s latest sensation, rocketing to World No. 3 with a live rating of 2797.2 Elo – a meteoric rise that has left the chess world buzzing.

The young grandmaster’s most recent triumph came at the Chess Olympiad in Budapest, Hungary, where he played a pivotal role in India’s historic victory. Manning the third board, Erigaisi delivered a masterclass in chess dominance, securing nine wins and two draws in eleven rounds. His extraordinary performance rating of 2968 Elo earned him 19.2 rating points and catapulted him past American chess titan Fabiano Caruana in the world rankings.

From Prodigy to Powerhouse: Arjun Erigaisi

Arjun Erigaisi’s chess odyssey reads like a grandmaster’s dream playbook. After earning his International Master title in 2017, he blazed through to Grandmaster status in 2018 at just 14 years old. Even as a FIDE Master, he showed his exceptional potential by claiming the runner-up position in the under-14 category at the 2017 World Youth Chess Championship.

The young maestro’s style has undergone a fascinating evolution. Initially recognized for his positional prowess, Erigaisi has transformed into a universal player, wielding a diverse arsenal of strategies that keep his opponents guessing. His calculating abilities, combined with his adaptability across different positions, have become his trademark.

The Breakthrough of Arjun Erigaisi

2022 marked Erigaisi’s explosive entry into chess’s upper echelons. Starting the year outside the world’s top 100, he engineered a remarkable ascent to super grandmaster status. His domination began at the Tata Steel Challengers tournament, where he scored an impressive 10.5/13 points, claiming victory by a commanding two-point margin.

The momentum continued as he clinched the Indian national championship in March and conquered the 2022 Junior Speed Chess Championship in June, ending Nihal Sarin’s two-year reign. His prowess across different chess formats became evident when he triumphed in two Tata Steel events on different continents.

Perhaps most notably, Arjun Erigaisi caught the attention of world champion Magnus Carlsen, who predicted his inevitable rise to a 2700 Elo rating – a prophecy that would soon be fulfilled. At the Lindores Abbey blitz tournament, Erigaisi demonstrated his tactical brilliance by winning 13 out of 18 games, soaring 107 rating points to secure third place.

The Present and Future

Today, Erigaisi stands as a testament to India’s chess renaissance, ranking fourth among Indian players behind chess legends Viswanathan Anand, Vidit Gujrathi, and Harikrishna Pentala. His journey from a 2500-rated player to breaking into the world’s top three showcases not just natural talent, but the results of rigorous training and an unwavering dedication to the game.

As the chess world watches this young phenomenon’s continued ascent, one thing becomes clear: Arjun Erigaisi isn’t just playing chess – he’s redefining what’s possible for the next generation of chess prodigies. According to sources familiar with the developments, Indian and Chinese forces have commenced the disengagement process along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh following a recent agreement between the two nations to end their military standoff.

India, China begin the disengagement process along LAC

Initial steps include the dismantling of one tent from each side and several temporary structures in the area. Indian forces are repositioning to the west side of the Charding Nala, while Chinese troops are moving to the east. Sources indicate approximately 10-12 temporary structures and 12 tents on both sides are slated for removal.

The process gained momentum on Thursday when the Chinese military reduced their vehicular presence, matched by an Indian troop withdrawal. Sources suggest that patrolling activities in Depsang and Demchok regions are expected to resume within 4-5 days after the completion of the current phase.

India announces breakthrough agreement

India announced the breakthrough agreement on October 21, marking a significant step toward resolving the military standoff that began with the violent Galwan Valley confrontation in May 2020.

China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian confirmed the deal the following day, stating Beijing’s commitment to implementing the resolutions alongside New Delhi.

PM Modi – Xi Jinping’s meeting at BRICS

The agreement received high-level endorsement during a meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping at the BRICS summit in Kazan. This marked their first encounter in five years, where Modi emphasized the importance of preventing boundary-related issues from disrupting border peace and tranquillity.

During the meeting, Xi reportedly agreed “in principle” to PM Modi’s suggestions for improving bilateral relations. The leaders’ discussions have led to directives for reviving various bilateral dialogue mechanisms, indicating potential steps toward normalizing relations between the two Asian powers.

The disengagement process represents a crucial development in easing tensions between India and China, potentially paving the way for improved diplomatic relations after more than four years of military standoff along the LAC.
