No CBFC Cuts Yet for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Sony Pictures Dismisses Runtime Speculation as ‘Inaccurate’

Sony Pictures Entertainment India has dismissed speculation that Spider-Man: Brand New Day starring Tom Holland and Zendaya was censored by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The studio clarified that the film has not yet been submitted for certification in India, making reports of runtime cuts or censorship entirely unfounded.

How the speculation began

The rumours surfaced after fans spotted differing runtimes across cinema listings. While international chains such as Cineworld listed the film with a runtime of 2 hours and 30 minutes, a temporary listing on PVR Cinemas showed a runtime of 2 hours and 25 minutes.

The discrepancy quickly fueled online speculation, with some assuming the CBFC had already ordered cuts for the Indian release. Sony Pictures Entertainment India has now clarified that no certification process has taken place so far.

In an official statement, the studio said: “We love the excitement around Spider-Man: Brand New Day. To address speculation circulating online, the film has not yet been submitted to the CBFC in India, and any reports regarding certification are inaccurate. For verified information, please follow our official channels.”

Advance bookings now underway

At the same time, Sony Pictures Entertainment India has opened advance bookings for audiences across the country.

Shony Panjikaran, General Manager and Head of Sony Pictures Releasing International India, said the studio aims to make Spider-Man’s return to cinemas a major theatrical event.

“Spider-Man has a special connection with Indian audiences, and every new film becomes a celebration across generations. With Spider-Man: Brand New Day, we wanted to deliver the most immersive theatrical experience possible while allowing fans to secure their tickets early and enjoy the film across premium large-format screens,” he said.

About the film

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has been written by Chris McKenna, Erik Sommers and Justin Kuritzkes. The film is based on the Marvel character created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko.

The production team includes Kevin Feige, Amy Pascal, Avi Arad and Rachel O’Connor, while Louis D’Esposito and David Cain serve as executive producers.

Alongside Holland and Zendaya, the cast features Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Michael Mando and Mark Ruffalo.

The story follows Peter Parker as he embraces life as Spider-Man in a world that no longer remembers him. As his former friends move on and a mysterious new threat emerges, Peter finds himself facing challenges that could reshape his future.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is scheduled to release in India on July 30, 2026, one day before its debut in several international markets. The film will be available in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam.

Audiences will also be able to experience the film in several premium formats, including P[XL], Big Pix, ScreenX, ICE, 4DX and MX4D.
