Japan Records Warmest October in 125 Years of Weather Tracking

Japan experienced its hottest October on record since measurements began in 1898, according to data released Friday by the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA). The nationwide average temperature surpassed typical October readings by 2.21 degrees Celsius.

Japan records highest temperature this October

The warming trend affected the entire country, with regional variations showing significant increases. Eastern and western Japan recorded the most dramatic rises, with temperatures climbing 2.6 degrees above normal.

Northern Japan saw a more moderate but still notable increase of 1.9 degrees.

Urban areas experienced particularly striking temperature spikes. Kyoto led with a 3.2-degree increase, followed closely by Nagano at 3.1 degrees, while central Tokyo recorded a 2.6-degree rise above typical October averages.

What would be the weather like in November?

JMA officials indicate that November temperatures are likely to remain above average, though they predict an influx of cooler air in the latter half of next week, which could bring more pronounced temperature variations.

The October heat continues a pattern of elevated temperatures that has persisted since July, raising concerns among meteorologists about the increasing frequency of unseasonably warm weather in Japan.
