Jio AirFiber launches on September 19; Here are the specs and differences!

Reliance Jio is all set to launch Jio AirFiber promising speeds of 1.5Gbps on 19th September. It is a portable wireless internet service designed for homes and offices. It is similar to Jio-Fi but without a battery and works on AC.

The AirFiber is supposed to deliver speeds of 1.5Gbps, allowing all users to stream high-quality videos, video conferences, online gaming, and much more without any lag. Mukesh Ambani announced that Jio AirFiber would be available on Ganesh Chaturthi during the AGM meeting of Reliance Industries.

About Jio AirFiber

The upcoming Jio AirFiber includes features like Wi-Fi 6 support, parental controls, security firewall. The device is compact and easy to set up as well. In order to set up your new Jio AirFiber device, Jio says one needs to do only this:

“You just have to just plug it in, turn it on, and that’s it. You now have a personal Wi-Fi hotspot in your home, connected to ultra-high-speed internet using True 5G. With JioAirFiber, it will be really easy to quickly connect your home or office to Gigabit-speed Internet,”

-says Jio

Alternative Options

There is a similar offering from Airtel as well. It is called Airtel Xstream AirFiber. All these AirFibers are based on connecting to existing towers just like the phone. If one resides in a poor reception area, then one is bound to get bad speeds. This is unlike Fiber connections which are provided in the form of fiber cables unlike wirelessly.

Following is the difference between AirFiber technology and Traditional Fiber:

AspectJio AirFiberJio Fiber
TechnologyWireless (Point-to-Point)Wired Fiber Optic

CoverageExtensive coverage, wirelessLimited coverage, wired
InstallationPlug-and-playProfessional installation

AirFiber v/s Traditional Fiber

We hope it will help you make a better purchase decision. This plug-and-play solution is going to be very useful for some users who require that use case. But it is not for all, so decide it well. As of now, the pricing has not been released yet. However, the price is expected to be around Rs. 6000.
