DogeRAT Malware: Android Users to Stay Safe!
The Indian government recently issued an advisory about a concerning threat for Android users. It is going on through social media as well as messaging platforms. The malware in the talks is codenamed as DogeRAT which poses a threat as it compromises sensitive data by granting access to hackers over the devices infected by it.
As of now, the source is unknown. DogeRAT is classified as a Remote Acess Trojan Malware which is targeting Android users in India as a part of the cyber campaign. The malware disguises in legit application APKs of popular apps like Opera Mini, and ChatGPT. Some versions also include paid versions of YouTube Premium, Netflix, and Instagram to lure users in the name of premium mods.
How DogeRAT Malware works?
After infecting a victim’s device, the malware gains unauthorized access to sensitive information of the user such as contacts, messages, and banking credentials. More malicious activities are possible such as taking complete control of the compromised device.
This can allow hackers to send spam messages, conduct unauthorized payments, modify files, capture photos, and monitor keystrokes and location. It can even allow recording audio and further compromise the privacy of the user in real life as well.
Advises from the Indian government against DogeRAT Malware to Android Users
As a response to this threat, the Defense Ministry has advised everyone to exercise caution. Everyone is requested not to download apps from unknown or 3rd party sources or unknown senders. All smartphones must be updated with the latest software and security patches. If possible, install Anti-virus and Anti-malware apps on your phone.

This advisory comes after earlier findings by researchers from CloudSEK. It is a contextual AI company, that discovered DogeRAT targeting users across various industries mostly from banking and entertainment.
