Heavy Rains Devastate Andhra Pradesh and Telangana: Schools Closed, Train Services Disrupted

Recent heavy rains have wreaked havoc across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, causing widespread flooding and significant disruptions to daily life. Low-lying regions have been inundated, with roads submerged and rendered impassable. The intense downpour has also resulted in interruptions to train services and the closure of schools, particularly in Hyderabad, as authorities brace for more rainfall in the coming days.

Relief Efforts in Andhra Pradesh
In Andhra Pradesh, the heavy rains have resulted in devastating consequences, with at least eight fatalities reported due to flooding and landslides. Many residents from affected low-lying areas have been evacuated to safer locations. National and state disaster relief teams, along with local police, have successfully rescued approximately 80 people from various locations.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has been closely monitoring the situation, canceling all scheduled activities on Saturday due to the severe weather conditions. He has directed officials to immediately allocate Rs 3 crore to each district for relief operations.

Among the eight victims, five lost their lives in landslides in Mogalrajapuram, Vijayawada, where large boulders, dislodged by the heavy rain, crashed into two houses. In another tragic incident in Guntur district, a teacher and two students died when their car was swept away while attempting to cross an overflowing stream.

Most Affected Areas
The areas worst hit by the flooding in Andhra Pradesh include Vijayawada, Machilipatnam, Gudivada, Kaikaluru, Narasapuram, Amaravati, Mangalagiri, Nandigama, and Bhimavaram. The flooding has caused extensive damage to infrastructure and property across these regions, further exacerbating the crisis.
