Jammu Army Base Gets Attacked; 1 Army Jawan Injured

An army jawan was injured when terrorists fired from a distance near the Sunjawan military camp, the largest army base in Jammu, on Monday morning. Defence spokesperson Lt Col Suneel Bartwal stated that the gunfire occurred between 10 and 10:30 am.

The military camp has since been sealed off, and a search operation is underway.

Previously, in February 2018, the Sunjawan military camp was attacked by Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorists, resulting in the deaths of six soldiers, a civilian, and three terrorists. Approximately 20 others, including both soldiers and civilians, were injured in that attack.

This recent incident near the army base follows the killing of three terrorists by security forces in two separate encounters in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district. Two terrorists were killed in the Machhal area, and another was killed in the Tangdhar sector.

In another development, an encounter occurred in Rajouri district, Jammu, after security forces launched a search operation to find terrorists hiding in the Lathi area. This operation began at 9:30 pm in the vicinity of Kheri Mohra Lathi and Danthal.

These infiltration attempts are taking place as Jammu and Kashmir prepare for upcoming assembly elections, with nominations for the first phase already submitted. The elections will be conducted in three phases on September 18, September 25, and October 1, with the results announced on October 4, according to the Election Commission of India.

This year, Jammu and Kashmir have seen numerous encounters, prompting government and military leaders to reassess the security situation in the region. At least five security personnel and seven civilians have been killed in terror attacks in Kashmir, while 14 security personnel and 11 civilians have died in separate extremist attacks in Jammu.
