Surveillance footage from a property near the site of a gas tanker collision on the Jaipur-Ajmer highway in Rajasthan captured the moment fire erupted within seconds, engulfing the area and causing massive destruction. Other visuals revealed streets shrouded in thick smoke following the tanker’s crash into multiple vehicles, triggering a deadly explosion and blaze.
The catastrophic collision on Friday morning turned a section of the highway into a fiery nightmare. At least seven people lost their lives, and over 35 sustained injuries. The blast left more than 30 vehicles ablaze, sending plumes of black smoke billowing into the sky. The tragedy unfolded near a petrol pump, intensifying the inferno.
Tragic Aftermath and Witness Accounts
Authorities fear that some victims may have been trapped in their vehicles and burned beyond recognition. Witnesses reported seeing flames from nearly a kilometre away as ambulances and fire brigade teams raced to the site. Rajasthan health officials confirmed the death toll at seven, with over 35 injured. Police stated that a clearer picture will emerge after thoroughly inspecting all the vehicles involved.
Officials Respond
Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma and Health Minister Gajendra Singh Khimsar visited SMS Hospital, where the injured are receiving treatment. Sharma met with doctors and administration officials, issuing directives to ensure proper medical care. He also visited the accident site to assess the situation.
Home Minister Amit Shah spoke with Chief Minister Sharma to review the developments. In a post on social media platform X, the chief minister expressed his grief, stating, “Deeply saddened to hear about the casualties in the gas tanker fire incident on the Jaipur-Ajmer National Highway. I visited SMS Hospital and instructed doctors to provide immediate and necessary care for the injured.”
Jaipur Police and Health Officials Respond to Highway Tragedy
Jaipur Police Commissioner Biju George Joseph, along with other department officials, reached the accident site on the Jaipur-Ajmer highway to oversee the situation.
Health Minister Gajendra Singh Khimsar informed reporters that nearly half of the injured brought to the hospital were in critical condition.
“All available doctors, resident medical staff, and nurses were called in to handle the emergency. An additional ward has been set up to accommodate patients, while some received primary treatment at nearby hospitals,” he stated.
