Delhi Metro to Start Services at 3:15 AM on Four Lines for Half Marathon on October 12

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation will commence train services early on four metro lines on October 12 to facilitate participants of the Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon scheduled at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, according to an official statement.

Early Service Schedule

Delhi Metro services will begin at 3:15 AM from terminal stations on the Red, Yellow, Blue, and Violet Lines. The affected routes include:

  • Rithala-Shaheed Sthal (Red Line)
  • Samaypur Badli-Millennium City Centre Gurugram (Yellow Line)
  • Dwarka Sec-21-Noida Electronic City/Vaishali (Blue Line)
  • Kashmere Gate-Raja Nahar Singh (Violet Line)

Frequency Details

Trains will operate at specific intervals during early morning hours:

  • Every 15 minutes between 3:15 AM and 4:00 AM
  • Every 20 minutes between 4:00 AM and 6:00 AM
  • Regular Sunday schedules will apply after 6:00 AM

Metro services on all other lines will follow the standard Sunday timetable, DMRC stated.

Participant Support Services

To assist marathon runners, volunteers deployed by event organizers will be stationed at key metro stations including Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Jor Bagh, Janpath, and Jangpura.

Event organizers are sponsoring metro travel for marathon participants, providing complimentary round-trip rides. Runners can collect wristbands featuring special QR codes along with their race bibs from organizers, according to DMRC.

The Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon represents one of the capital’s major sporting events, attracting thousands of participants annually. The early metro services aim to ensure convenient transportation for runners who need to reach the venue well before race start times.

Logistical Coordination

The arrangement reflects coordination between DMRC and marathon organizers to manage large-scale participant movement efficiently. The QR code-enabled wristband system will streamline entry and exit at metro stations while preventing misuse of free travel facilities.

The special schedule accommodates participants traveling from various parts of Delhi-NCR, ensuring they reach Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium comfortably despite the early morning race timings. Regular commuters using other metro lines will experience no disruption to their usual Sunday travel schedules.
