Delhi Gets its New CM: AAP’s Atishi to Take Oath this Saturday

Delhi is all set to witness Aam Aadmi Party (AAM) leader and Chief Minister-designated Atishi to take oath of office on Saturday – September 21, the party said today.

AAP’s Atishi to take oath as Delhi Chief Minister

This announcement came just hours after Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena proposed September 21 as the date for the swearing-in of CM-designated Atishi in a written communication to President Droupadi Murmu.

Initially, AAP had decided that only Atishi would be sworn-in, according to the sources. However, it was later decided that her council of ministers would also take oath on the same day.

Atishi selected as Delhi’s designated-CM

Notably, Atishi Marlena, who is also the lone woman minister in the Delhi Cabinet, Tuesday – September 17, was unanimously selected for the Delhi Chief Minister’s post by the ruling AAP legislators.

She is the Kalkaji MLA, who holds the maximum portfolios in the AAP govt. and is all set to take over from party supremo Arvind Kejriwal just months before the Delhi Assembly polls.

Arvind Kejriwal resignation

Since former-CM Arvind Kejriwal announced his resignation following his bail by the Supreme Court in connection with the alleged controversial Delhi Liquor Policy Scam.

However, Atishi was the frontrunner for the top job as she had assumed a pivotal role in the AAP after the arrest of Kejriwal and his former deputy Manish Sisodia in the controversial case.
