Bihar: In order to provide relief for the commoners, the Bihar government has introduced special discounted bus services to help migrant workers return home for the upcoming festival season, offering significant fare reductions on routes connecting Bihar with five neighbouring states.
The Bihar State Road Transport Corporation (BSRTC) announced the launch of bus services under Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode to Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Jharkhand, and West Bengal, providing substantial relief to thousands of Bihari migrants during the festive period.
What will be the revised Bus fares?
On the Bhagalpur-Ambala route, the passengers will receive considerable savings. The original AC sleeper bus fare of ₹3,603 has been reduced to ₹2,490 after a discount of ₹1,113. Non-AC buses on the same route offer fares of ₹1,490 instead of ₹2,122, representing a ₹632 discount.
For the popular Patna-Delhi route, AC bus passengers will pay ₹1,254 instead of the original ₹1,873 fare. Non-AC bus travellers will benefit from a ₹394 reduction, paying ₹1,133 instead of ₹1,527. AC sleeper buses offer the highest savings with ₹919 discount, bringing the fare down from ₹2,812 to ₹1,893.
Comprehensive Route Coverage available during festive season:
The service covers five neighbouring states with direct connectivity:
Delhi: Direct buses from 13 districts including Patna, Bhagalpur, Darbhanga, Gaya, and Muzaffarpur.
Haryana: Services to Ambala, Gurugram, and Panipat.
Jharkhand: Routes to Ranchi, Dhanbad, Hazaribagh, and Bokaro.
Uttar Pradesh: Connections to Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Lucknow, and Sarnath.
West Bengal: Daily services to Kolkata, Siliguri, and Durgapur.
How to book and check availability of busses?
Ticket booking commenced on September 1 through BSRTC’s official website (https://bsrtc.bihar.gov.in). The subsidized bus service will operate from September 20 to November 30, 2025, covering major festivals including Durga Puja, Diwali, and Chhath.
This initiative addresses the annual challenge faced by migrant workers who often struggle with expensive transportation costs during festival seasons. The government aims to ensure safe and affordable travel for every migrant Bihari wanting to celebrate festivals with their families.
The timing coincides with Bihar’s festival season when streets and courtyards come alive with celebrations, and every Bihari feels drawn toward their ancestral homes and villages.
