In a swift action, police arrested a 20-year-old man in Noida for allegedly making death threats to Bollywood actor Salman Khan and NCP MLA Zeeshan Siddique, son of recently murdered politician Baba Siddique.
Suspect arrested for threatening Zeeshan Siddique, Salman Khan
Mohammad Tayyab alias Gurfan was apprehended Tuesday morning from Noida’s Sector 39 and is being transferred to Mumbai on transit remand.
The threats were made on Friday evening, prompting immediate action after a complaint from Zeeshan Siddique’s office.
The threats come in the wake of Baba Siddique’s murder on October 12, when he was shot dead outside his office while celebrating Dusshera.
The Bishnoi gang claimed responsibility for the killing, citing the former minister’s association with Salman Khan as the motive.
Baba Siddique’s son, Zeeshan Siddique joins NCP
The incident gains significance as Zeeshan Siddique recently joined the Ajit Pawar-led NCP faction after his expulsion from Congress for alleged cross-voting in the Maharashtra legislative council elections.
“Joining the party was emotional,” said Siddique, who plans to contest the November 20 Maharashtra Assembly elections from Bandra East, a seat he won in 2019 on a Congress ticket.
The constituency holds special significance for the Siddique family. Baba Siddique served two terms as Congress MLA from the formerly undivided Bandra seat before joining the NCP earlier this year.
Police have made significant progress in Baba Siddique’s murder case, with 15 arrests so far. The latest threat case adds another layer to the ongoing investigation into the growing nexus between organized crime and political targeting in Maharashtra.
