Indian Diplomat Vikram Doraiswami Blocked from UK Gurdwara
Vikram Doraiswami: The Indian High Commissioner to the UK, Vikram Doraiswami, faced an incident where he was prevented from entering a gurdwara in Scotland by Khalistani extremists. This incident unfolds against the backdrop of escalating tensions following Canada’s accusations of Indian involvement in the killing of terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
A video circulating on social media purportedly shows a pro-Khalistan activist obstructing Mr. Doraiswami from entering the Glasgow Gurdwara on Albert Drive. The video reveals two individuals near the High Commissioner’s car in the parking area, with one attempting to open the car door, which was locked from the inside. Subsequently, the High Commissioner’s car departs from the gurdwara premises.

It’s worth noting that the Indian High Commissioner had been invited by the gurdwara managing committee. In a longer version of the video, Khalistani extremists are seen threatening the gurdwara managing committee staff as well.
Indian Government’s Response and Security Measures
There has been no immediate reaction from the Indian government. But, considering the incident’s implications, sources suggest that a police complaint has been filed.
This incident occurred amid heightened tensions following Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s allegation of “Indian government agents” being involved in the killing of terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. India vehemently rejected Trudeau’s charges, labeling them as “absurd.”
Trudeau’s allegations were made without providing any concrete evidence. Nevertheless, reports indicated that this information was shared within an intelligence alliance. It comprised the US, UK, Australia, and New Zealand. India countered the accusations by asserting that Canada was providing a safe haven for terrorists.

Tensions between India and Canada have been simmering since PM Modi raised concerns about increasing secessionist activities in Canada. It was done during a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Delhi. In 2018, India reportedly handed Trudeau a list of nine Khalistani operatives.
Escalating Diplomatic Tensions
The incident involving the Indian High Commissioner’s encounter with Khalistani extremists in the UK highlights the escalating diplomatic tensions between India and Canada. Accusations and counter-accusations regarding terrorist activities have strained relations, with both countries maintaining their positions firmly. The situation underscores the complexities of international diplomacy in addressing issues related to extremism and terrorism.
