In 2021, Vir was accused of defaming India during a US show, even garnering the label of “terrorist”. The backlash had left him contemplating suicide from overwhelming pressure. However, he persevered through the darkest period.

Fast forward to 2022, he bagged an International Emmy representing Indian comedy. Vir expressed gratitude for the honor in his vote of thanks while dedicating the win to advancing Indian narratives globally.

Vir Das also shared a picture of himself on Instagram and penned a note that said, “For India 🇮🇳 For Indian comedy. Every breath, every word. Thank you to the @iemmys for this incredible honor.”

In an Instagram monologue, he poignantly stated, “On the night I was called a terrorist, I was nominated for an Emmy for Vir Das: For India.” This exemplified how the universe had come full circle for him.

From crafting hyperlocal jokes to receiving an international accolade – Vir’s trajectory has been both challenging and rewarding. He thanked streaming giant Netflix for the creative freedom that amplified his comedy onto the world stage.

The post resonated with fans as a testament to overcoming life’s difficulties. Vir concluded with an uplifting message – for those engulfed in darkness now, stay, for sunlight and love will find you again. Through resilience and art, he transformed controversy into glory.
