Director Meghna Gulzar rang on her 50th birthday on December 13th with sweet messages from her nearest and dearest. Among them was leading man Vicky Kaushal, who is currently starring in Gulzar’s biopic Sam Bahadur.
Kaushal took to Instagram to post a heartwarming behind-the-scenes clip from the sets of the film. In it, the actor gracefully waltzes with Gulzar to wish her on her special day.
“Here’s a little birthday dance with you Meghna,” Kaushal captioned affectionately. He expressed a desire to celebrate with her in person while praising her uncompromising work ethic that motivates everyone around Gulzar to overdeliver.
The filmmaker replied to Kaushal’s post with a simple “You” and heart emoji. Their creative partnership runs deeper than just the director and actor.
And Sam Bahadur itself continues to be a passion project for both even after release, amidst glowing reviews. As it enters its second week in theaters, the biopic on Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw has earnings of ₹61 crore – higher than its reported ₹55 crore budget.
While competition was stiff this holiday season thanks to Ranbir Kapoor-starrer Animal, Sam Bahadur continues to draw crowds thanks to stellar word of mouth. Gulzar can surely consider it a fine birthday gift.
Moreover, seeing the bond between her and leading man Vicky Kaushal on display reminds me that relationships forged between actor-director duo often translate to on-screen success. Their previous collaboration Raazi was also a critical and commercial smash.
