Helmed by acclaimed director Abhishek Chaubey (Udta Punjab, Sonchiriya), the darkly humorous thriller follows a hapless home chef Swathi Shetty (Konkona) plotting to murder her husband Prabhakar (Bajpayee). Her clever scheme goes hilariously awry when meddling cops and amateur goons get involved.

Chaubey, also the showrunner and co-writer, described Killer Soup as “a pot-boiler sent completely over the top with an exceptional cast.” Alongside leads, Bajpayee and Sen Sharma are comedic talents like Nasser, Sayaji Shinde, and Lal meant to amplify the madness.

The series aims to shock viewers with eccentric characters and crimes while also eliciting big laughs. It’s loosely inspired by a strange real-life news story that Chaubey has fictionalized in his trademark gritty style seen in titles like Gangs of Wasseypur.

For Netflix, Killer Soup makes for a promising start to its 2023 India slate banking on the pairing of Bajpayee and Sen Sharma. Netflix India VP Monika Shergill called the show “a genre audiences love…like no other. Crazy, quirky, and bizarre.”

With filming wrapped, post-production duties now lie with producers Honey Trehan and Chetana Kowshik. Together the team hopes to cook up a dark comedy feast blending intrigue and humor to perfection for viewers worldwide come January 2023.
