Karan Johar Fails to Get Coldplay Tickets; Opens up About ‘Privilege’

Coldplay announced a third show for the Mumbai leg of its Music Of The Spheres World Tour 2025 on Sunday, citing “phenomenal demand” just hours after fans voiced frustration over long wait times on the BookMyShow ticket platform. On Sunday night, filmmaker Karan Johar took to Instagram Stories, hinting that he, too, was unable to secure tickets for the British rock band’s upcoming concerts in Mumbai, scheduled for January 2025.

‘You can’t get everything you want, my darling’
Karan shared, “Dear privilege, I love that Coldplay and mini Kelly always keep you grounded… you can’t get everything you want, my darling… Lots of love… Frugal.” His post came shortly after tickets for the new January 21 show at Mumbai’s DY Patil Sports Stadium went live on BookMyShow at 2 PM.

Coldplay ticket sale backlash in Mumbai
“Due to phenomenal demand, a third Mumbai date has been added at DY Patil Stadium for January 21, 2025. Tickets on sale at 2 PM IST today,” Coldplay announced on X, sharing the booking link.

According to reports, BookMyShow’s website and app crashed on Sunday when ticket sales for the band’s 2025 concerts went live. Soon, hashtags like #Coldplay, #BookMyShow, and #Crashed were trending on X.

Coldplay had already announced two shows on January 18 and 19, 2025, at DY Patil Stadium. Many fans posted screenshots of frozen computer and phone screens, as the app struggled to handle the traffic.

BookMyShow had initially set the ticket sales for the January 18 and 19 shows to begin at 12 PM, but fans reported that tickets remained unavailable well past 12:15 PM. A spokesperson from BookMyShow called it a “landmark moment” in India’s live entertainment scene, noting the overwhelming demand and excitement for Coldplay’s tour.

According to BookMyShow, 13 million fans logged in on Sunday to try to purchase tickets. Later, the platform warned fans about unauthorized sellers offering tickets for Coldplay’s India tour. “These tickets are invalid. Ticket scalping is illegal in India and punishable by law. Please avoid falling for scams! BookMyShow is the only official platform for ticket sales,” they posted on X.
