Google Discover Set To Feature Instagram Posts And YouTube Shorts Inside User Feed

Google Discover

Google is expanding the role of its Discover feed, turning it into a one-stop space that blends news with social media updates. The company revealed that alongside articles from publishers, the feed will soon display posts from platforms such as Instagram, YouTube Shorts, and X—an update designed to cut down the need to constantly switch between apps.

The rollout will take place gradually in the coming weeks, according to a blog post by Google. The feed is set to include “new content, formats and features” that showcase updates from both global publishers and independent creators, with support for additional platforms to be introduced later.

The shift comes in response to user feedback, as many people indicated they wanted Discover to carry not just articles but also videos and social posts. By weaving together multiple types of content, Google hopes to make the feed more closely aligned with individual interests and habits.

Personalisation is also being upgraded. A new “follow” button now sits at the top of posts, giving users the option to subscribe directly to a publisher or creator. Tapping a name will open a dedicated page featuring their latest work—videos, stories, and articles—before users decide whether to follow. These features, however, require signing in with a Google account.

Google has already introduced tools that let people choose preferred sources in search results, helping them cut through low-quality material and focus on trusted outlets. With Discover’s latest transformation, the company is moving further toward a personalised hub that combines journalism with social updates in one feed.

For Indian users especially, the changes could mean quicker access to information and entertainment without juggling multiple apps, making Discover a central place for daily updates.

Nepal’s interim Prime Minister Sushila Karki used her first public address to promise a clean and accountable government after weeks of unrest shook the country’s leadership. Speaking on the occasion of Nepal’s national day, which marked a decade since the adoption of the current constitution, she said her administration would prioritise jobs, higher living standards, and a determined fight against corruption.

“The protests reflect the aspirations of the young generation, a growing level of popular awareness and dissatisfaction over the rising corruption,” Karki told the nation, acknowledging that recent demonstrations were the result of governance failures. “We must accept the fact that the protests took place because of the failure to fulfill the spirit and objectives of providing good governance and prosperity enshrined in the constitution.”

Karki, 73, took charge last week after violent youth-led protests—branded by organisers as “demonstrations by Gen Z”—forced the resignation of Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli. At least 72 people were killed and more than 2,100 injured, while public offices, including the prime minister’s complex, the Supreme Court and parliament building, as well as private establishments like luxury hotels, suffered heavy damage in arson and vandalism.

The former Supreme Court chief justice, and the first woman ever to hold both that role and the premiership, has been tasked with steering the country to parliamentary elections on March 5. She stressed that her interim government’s priorities will be employment creation, anti-graft measures, transparency, development, and social welfare.

Backed by Gen Z representatives for her reputation as a principled defender of the rule of law, Karki has already named three ministers with reformist credentials to join her cabinet. She also underlined that elections would be held on schedule, calling it her foremost responsibility.

A 29-year-old software professional from Telangana’s Mahabubnagar district was fatally shot by Santa Clara Police in California on September 3, following what authorities described as a violent domestic dispute with his roommate.

Indian Software Professional Shot Dead By US Cops – Incident Details

Mohammed Nizamuddin, who had completed his Master’s degree in the United States before working as a software professional, was killed during a police response to a reported altercation. His father, Mohammed Hasnuddin, learned of the death through one of his son’s friends and was only informed of the shooting on Thursday morning.

According to the family, the conflict with the roommate began over a minor issue, though exact circumstances leading to the fatal encounter remain unclear.

Here’s What US Police Said:

Santa Clara Police reported responding to the incident at approximately 6:18 AM on September 3, where officers encountered Nizamuddin allegedly armed with a knife. He was transported to a hospital but later pronounced dead, while the roommate was hospitalized and treated for injuries.

Police Chief Cory Morgan stated that the roommate dispute had escalated to violence before officers arrived. “Based on our preliminary investigation, we believe the officer’s actions prevented further harm and clearly saved at least one life,” Morgan said. Officers claimed Nizamuddin was holding a knife and threatening to attack again when they forced entry into the residence.

Two knives were recovered from the scene, according to police reports.

Family Seeks Indian Government Intervention

In a letter to External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Hasnuddin requested assistance in repatriating his son’s body to Mahabubnagar. “I do not know the actual reasons why police shot him dead,” he wrote, seeking urgent help from Indian officials in Washington and San Francisco.

Amjed Ullah Khan, spokesperson of the Majlis Bachao Tahreek (MBT), shared the family’s appeal with media and urged government intervention in the case.

Ongoing Investigation

The incident adds to growing concerns about police encounters involving Indian nationals in the United States. While authorities maintain their response prevented further violence, the family continues seeking answers about the circumstances that led to the fatal shooting.

The case highlights the challenges faced by Indian families navigating international legal systems following tragic incidents abroad.

Apple Stores across India opened at 8 AM to unprecedented crowds seeking the rumoured iPhone 17 series, with scenes of chaos erupting at multiple locations as eager customers queued for hours before sales commenced.

Mumbai Store witnesses Violence to grab iPhone 17

The Mumbai Apple Store at BKC Jio Centre experienced significant disorder as large crowds competed for access to Apple’s latest devices, including the speculated iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max models, alongside new Apple Watches and AirPods Pro 3.

PTI footage captured physical altercations among customers, with individuals throwing punches while security officials attempted crowd control through whistles. Authorities quickly intervened to remove aggressive participants from the crowd.

Queue-Jumping Sparks Tensions

Customer complaints focused on inadequate crowd management and line-cutting incidents. Shopper Mohan Yadav told ANI: “I have been waiting since the morning. Have been standing in a queue… but the security here has no responsibility. People are breaking lines. Those standing behind don’t get the chance to buy the product due to a lack of responsibility among the security officials.”

Nationwide Enthusiasm to buy iPhone 17

Similar scenes unfolded at Apple’s other Indian locations in New Delhi, Bengaluru, and Pune. At the New Delhi Saket Select Citywalk Mall store, customers waited overnight, with some traveling from Punjab specifically for the launch.

The media reported that dedicated buyers had been queuing since 1 AM for the 8 AM opening, with several calling in sick to work to attend the event. The New Delhi queue spanned two mall floors, with seating provided for waiting customers.

Premium Pricing Structure

The theoretical iPhone 17 would start at Rs 82,900, with the ultra-slim iPhone Air priced at Rs 1,19,900. The iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max models would cost Rs 1,34,900 and Rs 1,49,900 respectively.

Despite premium pricing, customer enthusiasm suggests strong market demand for Apple’s flagship devices in India’s growing smartphone market, indicating continued brand loyalty among premium consumers.

Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Chief V. Narayanan announced Thursday that India’s ambitious Gaganyaan program will send a half-humanoid named Vyommitra to space in December, marking a crucial milestone before human astronauts embark on the historic mission.

ISRO launches Vyommitra – Half Humanoid

Speaking to media in Coimbatore, Narayanan outlined the structured approach to India’s first human spaceflight program. “Right now, we are in the advanced stage… This December, we plan to send the first uncrewed mission, which will include a half-humanoid called Vyommitra instead of a human being. Once this is successful, two more uncrewed missions will be completed next year,” he stated.

The ISRO chief confirmed that human astronauts, referred to as ‘Gaganyatri,’ will launch by the first quarter of 2027. “By the first quarter of 2027, we aim to send our own ‘Gaganyatri’ to space and bring it back safely. The crew for Gaganyaan are already selected, have undergone training, and we are preparing for our own mission,” Narayanan added.

Recent Technical Achievements of ISRO

ISRO recently completed its first Integrated Air Drop Test (IADT-01), demonstrating the parachute-based deceleration system essential for safe crew return. The collaborative effort involved the Indian Air Force, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Indian Navy, and Indian Coast Guard.

ISRO announced on social media: “ISRO successfully accomplishes first Integrated Air Drop Test (IADT-01) for end-to-end demonstration of parachute-based deceleration system for Gaganyaan missions. This test is a joint effort of ISRO, Indian Air Force, DRDO, Indian Navy and Indian Coast Guard.”

Program Development Status

Union Minister of State for Science and Technology Dr. Jitendra Singh confirmed Wednesday that development and ground testing of the Human Rated Launch Vehicle (HLVM3) have been completed. Key achievements include propulsion systems for crew and service modules, crew escape system development, and establishment of specialized facilities including the Gaganyaan Control Centre and crew training facilities.

Future Vision

The Gaganyaan program represents India’s transition to an established spacefaring nation, supporting the ‘Viksit Bharat’ vision. Long-term objectives include establishing the Bharatiya Antariksha Station (BAS) by 2035 and achieving an Indian Moon landing by 2040, positioning India among elite space exploration nations.

Punjab Government Funds Foreign Education For SC Students Granting ₹13.17 Lakh

0
Baljit Kaur announces new Punjab scheme.

The Punjab government, under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has rolled out a series of ambitious education initiatives that could reshape opportunities for Scheduled Caste, Backward Class, and minority students. Social Justice Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur announced that the state will now fund overseas education for SC students and children of landless farm laborers, covering airfare, visa costs, tuition, medical insurance, and a maintenance allowance of ₹13.17 lakh.

Applicants under 35 with at least 60 percent marks and a family income below ₹8 lakh can apply, and thirty percent of the slots will be reserved for women. “This scheme will open new doors of opportunity for Punjab’s talented youth, and now parents will no longer have to mortgage their property to send their children abroad,” she said, adding that the NOS portal will accept applications until October 24.

The foreign scholarship programme complements a restructured Post-Matric Scholarship scheme that the AAP government claims to have freed from “years of disputes and irregularities.” The results are visible: from 1.76 lakh students in 2022, beneficiaries have risen to 2.37 lakh—a 35 percent jump in just three years. By comparison, the previous five-year term reached only 3.71 lakh students, while the Mann government has already supported 6.78 lakh in less than half that time. For 2025–26, the target has been set at 2.70 lakh, with awareness campaigns in schools and colleges to ensure maximum coverage.

Alongside this, the Top Class Education scheme will extend scholarships to OBC, EBC, and DNT students from families earning below ₹2.5 lakh annually, admitted to eleven premier institutions including AIIMS Bathinda, IIT Ropar, IIM Amritsar, IISER Mohali, and NIT Jalandhar.

Not all efforts are focused abroad. A special two-month PCS crash course will begin at the Ambedkar Institute in Mohali for SC, BC, and minority candidates preparing for civil services. Forty aspirants will be selected through a test on September 30, and the upgraded institute, renovated with ₹1.47 crore and further supported with an additional ₹1.22 crore, will now attract top professors with enhanced honorariums.

For a state where the migration of young people has long defined aspirations, these measures mark a shift—transforming dreams into structured policy. They aim to ensure that the next generation of students does not chase education abroad through debt, but with a government-backed ticket. “Our goal is to make higher education accessible, affordable, and attractive for every eligible child in Punjab. Only through education can we socially and economically empower our students,” Dr. Kaur emphasized.

PM Modi Launches National Makhana Board with Rs 475 Crore Package to Boost Bihar’s ‘Superfood’ Industry

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the National Makhana Board in Bihar’s Purnea district on Monday, establishing a dedicated framework to promote the cultivation, processing, and export of makhana (fox nut), which has gained global recognition as a superfood.

PM Modi launches National Makhana Board in Bihar

The board’s establishment was first announced in the Union Budget of 2025 and comes with Centre approval for a development package worth nearly Rs 475 crore. The initiative aims to scale up production standards, improve post-harvest management, introduce new technologies, expand value addition, and strengthen marketing and export linkages.

Officials indicate the board will support farmer-producer organizations and help makhana farmers access relevant central government schemes.

PM Modi has been a vocal advocate for makhana’s potential, stating: “I eat makhana at least 300 out of 365 days a year. It is a superfood that we must now take to global markets.”

The ‘Black Diamond’ Explained – About Makhana

Makhana, the edible seed of Euryale ferox, is an aquatic crop native to South and East Asia. The seeds are small and dark before processing, earning the nickname “Black Diamond,” and turn white when popped. Bihar’s GI-tagged Mithila variety holds significant culinary and ritual importance.

Nutritional Profile

The popped kernels are low in calories and fat while providing plant-based protein, dietary fiber, and essential minerals including magnesium, potassium, and phosphorus. They also contain antioxidants and are naturally gluten-free and vegan-friendly, driving demand among health-conscious consumers.

Production and Processing

Cultivation occurs in stagnant ponds and wetlands, where farmers harvest spiky fruiting pods by wading through shallow waters. The labor-intensive processing involves drying, high-temperature roasting, and popping to yield familiar white kernels, making it crucial for livelihoods across Bihar’s Mithilanchal and Seemanchal regions.

Export Success

Bihar accounts for 90% of India’s total makhana output, with exports reaching UAE, US, and Western markets. In September 2025, a seven-metric-ton GI-tagged Mithila Makhana consignment was dispatched to New Zealand, Canada, and the United States.

The Rs 475-crore plan will modernize processing units, improve storage and packaging facilities, and support farmer cooperatives across key districts including Madhubani, Darbhanga, and Purnea.

Amit Shah Slams Rahul Gandhi’s Voter Deletion Claims, Targets ‘Infiltrator Protection’ in Bihar

Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched a fierce counterattack against Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Thursday, dismissing his recent voter deletion allegations as false narratives while accusing him of protecting Bangladeshi infiltrators through his Bihar campaign.

Union Minister Amit Shah counters Rahul Gandhi’s allegations in Bihar

Addressing BJP workers in poll-bound Bihar, HM Amit Shah reframed Gandhi’s recent ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ as an infiltrator protection mission. “Rahul Gandhi did a yatra in Bihar… The topic of his yatra was not good education, employment, electricity, roads. His yatra was aimed at saving the ghuspaithiya (infiltrators) who have come from Bangladesh. This was Rahul Gandhi’s Ghuspaithiya Bachao Yatra,” he declared.

The two-week campaign saw Rahul Gandhi and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav traverse Bihar, protesting against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The opposition has alleged this exercise serves as a smokescreen for disenfranchising traditional opposition voters, with over 65 lakh voters dropped from draft electoral rolls published by the Election Commission last month.

The union minister also warned that Bihar would be “teeming with infiltrators” if the RJD-Congress alliance assumed power, positioning infiltration as the BJP’s primary campaign theme ahead of November elections.

Dismissing Rahul Gandhi’s  ‘Vote Chori’ Claims

Responding to Gandhi’s Thursday allegations of systematic voter deletion ahead of elections, The union minister, Amit Shah urged BJP workers to counter what he termed false narratives. “They (Congress leaders) had taken recourse to a similar tactic earlier when they had alleged that we were out to scrap reservations for SCs and STs. Nothing of the sort happened,” the Union minister stated, referencing opposition campaigns during 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

NDA Unity Display

Earlier Thursday, Amit Shah met Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in Patna, with Kumar surprising observers by personally driving to Shah’s hotel. The gesture, captured in viral visuals showing cordial greetings between the leaders, signals NDA unity ahead of elections.

This development counters recent speculation that the Bihar CM had “refused” to meet Shah and BJP chief Jagat Prakash Nadda during their previous Patna visit last week, demonstrating the alliance’s cohesion despite earlier rumours of internal tensions.

The exchange highlights intensifying political rhetoric as Bihar prepares for crucial electoral battles.

CM Nitish Kumar Declares ₹1,000 Monthly Benefit Scheme For Unemployed Graduates

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday declared that his government will now extend financial support of ₹1,000 per month to unemployed graduates for a period of two years. The assistance will be offered under the Mukhyamantri Nishchay Swayam Sahayta Bhatta Yojana, a scheme that was earlier restricted to intermediate-pass youth.

Sharing the announcement on X, the Chief Minister wrote, “I am pleased to inform that under the state government’s seven resolves programme, the previously operated ‘Mukhyamantri Nishchay Swayam Sahayta Bhatta Yojana’ has now been expanded.” He further added, “Under this, the benefit of the Self-Help Allowance Scheme, which was previously being provided to intermediate-passed youth, has now been extended to unemployed graduate youth who have passed in arts, science, and commerce.”

Expanding on eligibility, Kumar clarified, “Graduate-passed youth in the 20-25 age group who are not pursuing any studies anywhere, are striving for jobs/employment, do not have any self-employment, or have not obtained government, private, or non-government employment, will also be paid the Chief Minister’s Resolves Self-Help Allowance at the rate of ₹1,000 per month for a maximum of two years.”

The Chief Minister urged students to utilise this allowance to improve their prospects. “I hope that the youth will use this assistance allowance to obtain necessary training and prepare for competitive examinations so that their future can be secured,” he wrote.

Nitish Kumar reminded citizens that employment has been a key focus since his government was first formed in November 2005. “Since the formation of the new government in November 2005, providing government jobs and employment to more and more youth and empowering and enabling them has been our top priority,” he said.

He also pointed to the government’s long-term vision for employment in the state. “You are aware that a target has been set to provide government jobs and employment to one crore youth in the next five years. In the coming days, a large number of new jobs and employment opportunities will be created in the government and private sectors. To achieve this set target, youth are being provided skill development training so that they can obtain jobs/employment,” Kumar explained.

Looking ahead to the Assembly elections later this year, the Chief Minister said the initiative reflects his government’s larger goal. According to him, the objective is to ensure that young people in Bihar get access to maximum employment opportunities, become self-reliant and skilled, and contribute meaningfully to the growth of the state as well as the nation.
