K-Pop Group NewJeans Gets Blocked From Leaving Agency by Court

A South Korean court has issued an injunction preventing K-pop group NewJeans from pursuing independent projects, further escalating the ongoing dispute between the group and their label, ADOR.

The Seoul Central District Court ruled in favor of ADOR on Friday, affirming the label’s exclusive management rights over the group. The injunction prohibits NewJeans members from engaging in commercial activities without ADOR’s approval, the court stated.

Last November, the five-member group announced their departure from ADOR, rebranded as NJZ, and planned to release new music this month. However, the court’s ruling casts uncertainty over those plans.

In response, the group stated, “NJZ respects the court’s decision. However, we believe it does not fully acknowledge the complete breakdown of trust between the members and ADOR.”

The dispute stems from internal conflicts between ADOR’s parent company and the group’s creative director, who has since left the label. NewJeans members have expressed their desire to continue working with the director, accusing ADOR of mistreatment—claims the label has denied, asserting the contract remains valid.

ADOR, a subsidiary of HYBE, the powerhouse behind BTS, welcomed the court’s ruling. “With our legal status as NewJeans’ exclusive agency reaffirmed, we are fully committed to supporting the artists,” ADOR said, adding that it would be present at the group’s upcoming performance in Hong Kong.

The controversy surrounding NewJeans has dominated headlines in South Korea and beyond, involving allegations, audits, and an emotional press conference by the group.

Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, has once again emphasized the need for a caste census, describing it as a crucial step in uncovering the “truth of inequality and discrimination.”

In a post on X, Gandhi shared a video of his discussion with former University Grants Commission (UGC) chairman and academician Sukhdeo Thorat.

“I had an in-depth conversation with Prof. Thorat, a distinguished academician, economist, and expert on Dalit issues. He is also a member of the study committee on the caste census in Telangana. We discussed the Mahad Satyagraha and the ongoing struggle of Dalits for fair representation in administration, education, bureaucracy, and access to resources,” Gandhi stated on Thursday.

Recalling Ambedkar’s historic protest, Gandhi noted, “On March 20, 1927, Ambedkar directly challenged caste discrimination through the Mahad Satyagraha. It was not just about the right to water but about equality and dignity. This fight for a ‘rightful share,’ which began 98 years ago, continues today.”

He further asserted, “A caste census is vital to exposing the truth about inequality and discrimination—something its opponents want to suppress. Babasaheb’s dream remains unfulfilled. His fight is not just history; it is a battle of the present, and we will carry it forward with full force.”

BJP Responds to Rahul Gandhi’s Remarks

The BJP strongly criticized Gandhi’s statements.

“Rahul Gandhi’s shocking comments on merit reveal the Congress party’s nepotistic and feudal mindset. The dynastic Congress has a history of undermining meritorious leaders from SC, ST, and OBC communities who have risen through hard work and dedication,” BJP leader CR Kesavan told PTI.

He further accused the Congress of maintaining an anti-Dalit stance, stating, “The party has always suppressed merit and worked against the interests of Dalits.”

Govt Preparing to Introduce Annual Pass System to Replace Highway Tolls

The government plans to introduce an annual pass system to replace toll collection on national highways, aiming to improve operational efficiency and enhance convenience for road users, Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari announced in the Lok Sabha on Thursday.

Gadkari highlighted a pilot project for barrier-free toll collection at locations such as Gharonda, Choryasi, Nemili, UER-II, and the Dwarka Expressway. He mentioned that a satellite-based toll system had been introduced, as exclusively reported by Hindustan Times earlier this month. Additionally, he noted that pilot locations would alternatively operate using an Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) FASTag-based system for seamless toll collection.

He explained that satellite-based tolling requires additional satellite constellations to ensure precise positioning, along with the development of compatible receivers to integrate with India’s navigation system. “Therefore, transitioning to satellite-based tolling requires further deliberation,” Gadkari said while responding to lawmakers Dineshbhai Makwana and Dharambir Singh’s queries regarding transparency in toll fees.

According to Gadkari, toll rates are determined by the National Highway-Fee Rules, 2008, and displayed at each plaza as well as on the National Highway Authority of India’s website. Any revisions in toll charges for a financial year are announced in newspapers and made publicly available to ensure transparency and avoid discrepancies.

Gadkari also shared that the Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) has been installed on 325 national highway projects, covering approximately 20,000 km. Responding to a query from lawmaker Rajkumar Chahar, he stated that highways with four or more lanes are gradually being equipped with ATMS.

Donald Trump's comments on Barron

Donald Trump praised his youngest son, Barron Trump, as a “smart guy” ahead of his birthday on March 20, highlighting the teenager’s technological skills and their strong bond.

Speaking with Fox News’s Laura Ingraham on March 19, Trump described Barron as having a natural talent for technology. The former president expressed his admiration for his son, a freshman at New York University, and his impressive computer skills.

‘He has an incredible aptitude for technology’
When asked whether Barron was more inclined toward politics or business, Trump suggested it might be technology. He recounted an incident where he tried to turn off Barron’s laptop, only to find it back on moments later. When he asked how it happened, Barron simply replied, “None of your business, dad.”

“He has an unbelievable aptitude for technology,” Trump remarked.

Beyond Barron, Trump also praised his other four children—Eric, Don Jr., Ivanka, and Tiffany—for their intelligence and dedication. He described himself as fortunate to be the father of five hardworking children, all of whom attended prestigious universities and are deeply patriotic.

“I’m lucky. You need a bit of luck too,” Trump said. “They are very smart, hardworking, and they love our country. They are proud of their father, and we have a great relationship.”

Barron is also preparing to launch a luxury real estate venture with two business partners. The company, Trump, Fulcher & Roxburgh Capital Inc., was briefly incorporated in Wyoming last July before being dissolved four months later. However, it is set to relaunch in spring 2025, with Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach listed as its principal address, according to records obtained by the New York Post.

Cameron Roxburgh, Barron’s co-founder and former high school classmate, previously stated that they were still finalizing logistics and “might relaunch” in the spring. While the venture is independent, Roxburgh noted that Barron had received “private advice” from his father, though there has been no financial backing from the Trump Organization so far.

Malaysia has finalized an agreement with exploration firm Ocean Infinity to restart the search for Malaysia Airlines flight MH370, Transport Minister Loke Siew Fook announced on Wednesday. Flight MH370, a Boeing 777 carrying 227 passengers and 12 crew members, disappeared in 2014 while en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, marking one of the most perplexing aviation mysteries in history.

The renewed search effort will focus on a 15,000 sq km area in the southern Indian Ocean, operating under a “no find, no fee” arrangement. Ocean Infinity will receive $70 million only if the wreckage is found, Loke confirmed.

“The government remains committed to continuing the search and providing closure for the families of those on board MH370,” he said in a statement.

Malaysia had initially agreed in principle to Ocean Infinity’s proposal in December. The company previously conducted an unsuccessful search for the plane in 2018, following earlier efforts by Malaysia, Australia, and China, which had covered a 120,000 sq km area based on satellite data from Inmarsat.

Ship tracking data revealed that a vessel deployed for the search had already reached the designated Indian Ocean zone late last month, even before the agreement was finalized. While the exact duration of the contract remains unclear, Loke had previously indicated it would span 18 months.

Filmmaker Rakesh Roshan recently spoke about his son, actor Hrithik Roshan, and his struggles with stammering. In an interview with news agency ANI, Rakesh recalled an incident where Hrithik found it difficult to say “thank you, Dubai” at an event. He also shared how Hrithik once locked himself inside a bathroom due to his speech difficulties.

Discussing his son’s challenge, Rakesh said, “I used to feel bad because he had so much to say. He is highly educated and intelligent, yet his stammering held him back. I remember an event in Dubai where he simply wanted to say ‘thank you, Dubai,’ but he kept getting stuck on the letter ‘D…’”

Hrithik’s Dedication to Overcoming Stammering

Rakesh further revealed, “He once locked himself in a bathroom just to memorize those two sentences—‘thank you, Dubai.’ It was heartbreaking to see such a progressive individual held back by this issue. But he worked incredibly hard to overcome it. Every morning, he would spend an hour reading the newspaper in English, Hindi, and Urdu. And now, for the last 10 to 14 years, he hasn’t stammered.”

Hrithik has previously opened up about his speech impediment, recalling how difficult it was during his school days.

The father-son duo has collaborated on several successful films, including Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai (2000), Koi… Mil Gaya (2003), and the Krrish film series. Most recently, Netflix released the docu-series The Roshans, featuring Hrithik, Rakesh, and music composer Rajesh Roshan. Directed by Shashi Ranjan, the series explores the journey of three generations in the film industry, focusing on the legacy of the late Roshan Lal Nagrath and his sons.

Hrithik’s Upcoming Project

Hrithik Roshan will next be seen in War 2, directed by Ayan Mukerji. The highly anticipated action film, also starring Jr NTR, is set for a worldwide theatrical release on August 14.

Samsung CEO Apologies to Shareholders for Price Fall; New Strategies Coming

Samsung Electronics co-CEO Han Jong-hee announced on Wednesday that the company is exploring major deals to accelerate growth, as it faces mounting pressure from shareholders.

Shareholders have raised concerns over Samsung’s failure to capitalize on the artificial intelligence (AI) boom, which contributed to it being one of the worst-performing tech stocks last year, according to a Bloomberg report.

In 2023, Samsung’s shares plunged by nearly a third, reaching a four-year low in November, while competitor SK Hynix saw a 26% surge.

“I sincerely apologise for our recent stock performance not meeting your expectations,” Han stated during the company’s annual general meeting. “Over the past year, we failed to respond adequately to the fast-evolving AI semiconductor market.”

His statement came after investors criticized Samsung’s management for the declining stock value and demanded a clear strategy to revive share prices.

Han also warned that 2025 would be a challenging year due to economic policy uncertainties in major markets. To navigate these difficulties, Samsung plans to pursue “meaningful” mergers and acquisitions, particularly in the US, to drive growth.

In addition to its stock slump, the South Korean tech giant has been grappling with weak earnings and has lost market share to TSMC in contract chip manufacturing, as well as to Apple and Chinese competitors in the smartphone sector.

The stock decline poses a challenge for Samsung, which introduced a stock-based performance incentive for executives last year and is now considering expanding it to employees in 2025.

As South Korea’s most valuable company, Samsung has a market capitalization of $235 billion, accounting for 16% of the country’s main stock exchange. The report further noted that nearly 40% of South Korean investors hold Samsung shares.

The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) arrested a junior works manager from Kanpur Ordnance Factory on Wednesday for allegedly sharing classified and sensitive information with a suspected Pakistani intelligence operative, according to an official statement.

As reported by PTI, the accused, Kumar Vikas, had been leaking information through social media. Following a detailed investigation into the security breach, he was taken into custody.

What Information Was Leaked?

Investigations revealed that Vikas had been in contact with a suspected Pakistani agent who posed as “Neha Sharma” to establish communication.

According to ATS, Vikas had been transmitting confidential documents and sensitive data, including ordnance manufacturing details, employee attendance records, machine layouts, and production charts, via WhatsApp.

Authorities stated that the Pakistani agent initially introduced herself as an employee of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) and connected with Vikas through Facebook. Their interactions later moved to WhatsApp after exchanging phone numbers.

To evade detection, they reportedly used the Ludo gaming app for covert communication. The ATS statement further mentioned that Vikas was allegedly enticed with financial incentives to share classified information. Vikas’ arrest followed the recent detention of another Ordnance Factory employee, Ravindra Kumar, on March 13 in Firozabad for similar offenses.

During his interrogation, Ravindra Kumar admitted to leaking sensitive data, leading ATS officials to probe Vikas, who had been in contact with the suspected Pakistani agent since January 2025, according to PTI.

Following Ravindra Kumar’s confession, authorities charged him under Section 148 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Official Secrets Act of 1923 before placing him under arrest.

The ATS statement concluded that Ravindra Kumar, a chargeman at the Ordnance Factory in Hazratpur, had been passing sensitive and confidential information to a Pakistani agent whom he befriended on Facebook.

Lalu Prasad Yadav Gets Summoned by ED For Money Laundering Probe

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav for questioning on Wednesday in connection with its money laundering investigation into the land-for-jobs scam, which dates back to his tenure as Union Railway Minister from 2004 to 2009, sources familiar with the matter said on Tuesday.

Other members of Lalu Yadav’s family, including his son Tej Pratap Yadav and wife Rabri Devi, have also been asked to appear before investigators on Tuesday, officials confirmed.

The case involves allegations that appointments for Group-D positions in the Indian Railways were made between 2004 and 2009 in violation of recruitment norms. It is alleged that candidates, either directly or through their family members, transferred land to Lalu Yadav’s family members at heavily discounted prices—often as low as one-fourth or one-fifth of the market value—in exchange for railway jobs.

The ED’s investigation is based on a First Information Report (FIR) filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is conducting a parallel corruption probe into Lalu Yadav and his family.

Both agencies have filed multiple charge sheets in the case and obtained prosecution sanction against the RJD leader from the relevant authorities.

Key Allegations

In its charge sheet filed in August 2024 under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), the ED claimed that Lalu Yadav used his close aide, Amit Katyal, to incorporate a company, AK Infosystems, to acquire multiple land parcels in Patna. Once these acquisitions were complete, Katyal transferred 100% of the company’s shares to Rabri Devi (85%) and Tejashwi Yadav (15%) on June 13, 2014, effectively making them the sole owners of the land.

According to the ED, AK Infosystems—along with all its assets, which had a book value of ₹1.89 crore—was handed over to Rabri Devi and Tejashwi Yadav for a mere ₹1 lakh. However, the agency’s valuation suggested that the actual market worth of these assets on June 13, 2014, was ₹63 crore.

The ED also claims to have linked Tejashwi Yadav to another company, AB Exports Pvt Ltd (ABEPL), which is reportedly controlled by Lalu Prasad’s family. The charge sheet states that Tejashwi Yadav owns 98.25% of ABEPL, while his sister, Chanda Yadav, holds the remaining 1.75%.

ABEPL allegedly purchased a bungalow—D-1088 in New Friends Colony—in 2007 for ₹5 crore using optionally fully convertible debentures from five shell companies. In March 2023, the ED issued a press statement asserting that the current market value of the property stands at ₹150 crore.

Apart from Lalu Prasad, Rabri Devi, Tejashwi Yadav, and Katyal, the ED’s charge sheets have also named Lalu Yadav’s daughters, Hema Yadav and Misa Bharti, as accused in the case.

The first charge sheet under PMLA was filed in January 2024.

Israel Strikes Gaza Ceasefire; Medics Claim Over 300 Dead

0

The Israeli military launched strikes across Gaza early Tuesday, ending a weeks-long deadlock over extending the ceasefire that had paused fighting since January. According to Palestinian health ministry officials, at least 235 people were killed, AFP reported.

A senior Hamas official, cited by Reuters, accused Israel of “unilaterally ending the Gaza ceasefire” following a series of Israeli airstrikes that left dozens dead.

Hamas media, quoted by Reuters, confirmed that senior security official Mahmoud Abu Watfa was killed in the strikes. The head of the Palestinian health ministry, Mohammed Zaqut, told AFP that at least 330 people, including several children, had been killed, while dozens were wounded across Gaza.

“The health ministry has recorded more than 330 deaths, the majority being Palestinian women and children, with hundreds wounded, many in critical condition,” Zaqut stated.

In a joint statement, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and Israel Security Agency said they were carrying out extensive strikes on Hamas targets in Gaza. According to Fox News, Israel consulted the White House before launching the attacks on Monday.

Ceasefire Collapses

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his government have decided to revoke the ceasefire agreement, exposing hostages in Gaza to uncertainty, Reuters quoted a Hamas official as saying.

Netanyahu stated that he had instructed the military to take “strong action” against Hamas in response to the group’s refusal to release hostages and its rejection of ceasefire proposals.

“Israel will now act against Hamas with increasing military strength,” his office announced.

Medics and witnesses reported that Israeli airstrikes targeted three houses in Deir Al-Balah, a building in Gaza City, and locations in Khan Younis and Rafah. The Palestinian civil emergency service counted at least 35 airstrikes on Gaza.

Ceasefire Disagreements

The renewed violence comes amid ongoing disputes between Israel and Hamas over the continuation of the three-phase ceasefire, which began in January.

Despite mediation efforts led by Arab negotiators and backed by the United States, the two sides have failed to reach a consensus over the past two weeks. During the initial phase of the ceasefire, Hamas released around three dozen hostages in exchange for nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners. However, negotiations for the second phase—aimed at securing the release of the remaining 60 hostages and ending the war—have stalled.

Netanyahu has repeatedly threatened to resume military action and, earlier this month, cut off food and aid deliveries to Gaza in an effort to pressure Hamas.

The conflict began on October 7, 2023, when Hamas launched a cross-border attack that killed approximately 1,200 people and took 250 hostages. In response, Israel’s military campaign has killed over 48,000 Palestinians, according to local health officials, and displaced around 90% of Gaza’s population. The Health Ministry in Gaza does not differentiate between civilians and militants but states that more than half of the casualties are women and children.

During the ceasefire, hundreds of thousands of displaced Palestinians were able to return to the ruins of their homes, providing some relief before hostilities resumed.
