2 Schoolgirls cycling Back Home, Harassed by 4 Bike-Borne Men in UP’s Deoria

Two Class 8 students narrowly escaped an attempted assault by four motorcycle-riding men while cycling home from school after an exam in Uttar Pradesh’s Deoria. The incident, captured on nearby residential CCTV footage, occurred in broad daylight.

The surveillance video shows the assailants causing the girls to lose balance and fall from their bicycles. One attacker attempted to drag a victim toward an adjacent paddy field. While one girl managed to escape immediately, the other fell while attempting to flee through the fields. The attackers fled when residents, alerted by the girls’ screams, rushed to help.

Here’s what the Deoria police said:

Deoria Superintendent of Police (SP) Sankalp Sharma confirmed the incident and outlined the police response: “We have received a report of two girls being harassed and followed by motorbike riders. Based on this, a case has been registered under relevant sections of the law. Five police teams have been formed, and we are reviewing the CCTV footage. The culprits will be arrested soon.”

A case has been lodged against the accused. The culprits are on the hunt, said the SP.

The incident has raised concerns about student safety in the area, particularly for those travelling to and from school. Local authorities are investigating the case, with a special focus on identifying the perpetrators through the available CCTV evidence.
