Ex-WWE Boss Slams Netflix for Ruining his Image

Former WWE chairman Vince McMahon has spoken out for the first time following allegations of sexual abuse and trafficking from a former employee, criticizing Netflix for misrepresenting him in the upcoming docuseries Mr. McMahon. The show, set to premiere worldwide on September 25, raised concerns among WWE fans after the release of its trailer, which highlights McMahon’s various controversies, including the infamous steroid trials and his most recent legal troubles. The two-minute-and-fifteen-second trailer caught the attention of McMahon himself just days before the show’s release.

While McMahon remains pleased to be part of the project, he expressed frustration with how Netflix has portrayed him in the promotional material. The six-part series, each episode an hour long, chronicles McMahon’s 50-year career, detailing his rise as the dominant force in professional wrestling promotion. Despite the anticipation among wrestling fans, McMahon made it clear he was unhappy with Netflix’s portrayal of him.

“I don’t regret participating in this Netflix documentary. The producers had the chance to tell an objective story about my life and the incredible business I built, full of excitement, drama, fun, controversy, and life lessons. But unfortunately, based on the early cut I’ve seen, the documentary falls short, taking the predictable route of blending the ‘Mr. McMahon’ character with the real me, Vince McMahon. The title and promos make that clear,” McMahon posted on X, marking his first activity on the platform since April of last year.

McMahon further claimed, “Much has been misrepresented or entirely omitted, seemingly to confuse viewers intentionally. The producers use typical editing tricks with out-of-context footage and outdated soundbites to craft a deceptive narrative. They even use a lawsuit stemming from an affair I ended as evidence to support the idea that I am, in fact, ‘Mr. McMahon.’ I hope viewers will keep an open mind and remember that there are two sides to every story.”

What to Expect from the Docuseries

In his post, McMahon urged the audience to watch the full series before drawing conclusions. Following a controversial incident earlier this year, McMahon stepped down from his role and, in the scripted world of professional wrestling (kayfabe), was “banished” from WWE, likely never to return. The series will delve into McMahon’s roller-coaster career, from the struggles of WWE during the Monday Night Wars to its transformation into a global entertainment powerhouse.
