On Sunday, British rock band Coldplay added a third show to the Mumbai stop of their 2025 Music Of The Spheres World Tour, following “phenomenal demand.” This announcement came after fans voiced frustration over long virtual queues on BookMyShow while trying to secure tickets. In response, the ticketing platform released a new statement condemning ticket scalping and distancing itself from unauthorized sellers. BookMyShow also confirmed that a police complaint had been filed regarding the issue.
BookMyShow on Ticket Reselling Platforms
BookMyShow’s website and app faced technical issues due to overwhelming traffic, which limited ticket availability for Coldplay’s January 2025 shows in India. Adding to the frustration, tickets were being resold at inflated prices on platforms like Viagogo and Gigsberg, with resellers charging far above face value.
On Tuesday, BookMyShow issued a fresh statement on X, strongly condemning ticket scalping and disassociating itself from unauthorized sellers. The platform urged fans to avoid purchasing from these sources, warning of potential counterfeit tickets and financial loss. It reiterated its commitment to fighting ticket scalping and mentioned that a police complaint had already been filed.
In the official statement, BookMyShow emphasized, “We have no affiliation with any ticket selling/reselling platforms such as Viagogo and Gigsberg, or any third-party individuals reselling tickets for Coldplay’s Music Of The Spheres World Tour 2025 in India.”
Scalping Condemned and Punishable by Law
The statement added, “Scalping is strictly condemned and is punishable by law in India. We have filed a complaint with the police and will fully support their investigation. We advise customers not to fall prey to these scams, as tickets bought from unauthorized sources may be counterfeit. Beware of such scammers.”
Since the announcement of Coldplay’s India tour dates—January 18, 19, and 21, 2025, at Mumbai’s DY Patil Sports Stadium—fans have rushed to secure tickets, leading to widespread complaints on social media about server crashes and long wait times. Even celebrities like filmmaker Karan Johar reportedly faced difficulties obtaining tickets, providing a small consolation for disappointed fans.
