AAP Seeks Govt. Housing for Kejriwal, Atishi Set to Become New Delhi CM today

In a significant political development, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has called for government accommodation for its national convenor, Arvind Kejriwal, following his recent resignation as Delhi’s Chief Minister. AAP leader Raghav Chadha cited Election Commission rules, stating that national party leaders are entitled to such housing.

Arvind Kejriwal needs govt. housing: AAP

“Under the rules of the Election Commission, any national party is given two resources. The first of which is the national office. Apart from this, the national convenor of a national level party is also given a government residence. Therefore, we demand from the central government that Arvind Kejriwal should get a government residence”, Raghav Chadha said.

This request comes as Kejriwal prepares to vacate his official residence at 6 Flagstaff Road in Civil Lines, north Delhi, where he has lived since the AAP’s landslide victory in 2015. Before his first term as Chief Minister in 2013, Kejriwal resided in Ghaziabad’s Kaushambi area.

Atishi to take oath as Delhi’s youngest CM today

Meanwhile, the political landscape in Delhi is set for a historic shift. Atishi, a prominent AAP leader, is poised to become the youngest Chief Minister of Delhi. Her swearing-in ceremony, scheduled for Saturday at 4:30 PM at the Raj Bhavan, will be a low-key affair.

Joining Atishi in the new council of ministers are AAP veterans Gopal Rai, Kailash Gahlot, Saurabh Bharadwaj, and Imran Hussain. A notable addition is Mukesh Ahlawat, a first-time MLA from Sultanpur Majra, representing the party’s Dalit constituency.

The transition follows Kejriwal’s resignation on September 17, shortly after receiving bail from the Supreme Court in the alleged liquor policy case. Atishi, who held 13 key portfolios in the outgoing government, including finance, revenue, and education, may face a potential reshuffle of ministerial responsibilities.

As Delhi witnesses this political change of the guard, all eyes are on how the new leadership will navigate the city’s challenges and continue the AAP’s governance agenda. The coming days will reveal whether Kejriwal’s request for government housing is granted and how Atishi’s tenure as the capital’s youngest Chief Minister unfolds.
