KC Tyagi Resigns as JD(U) Spokesperson Amid Tensions with BJP

KC Tyagi, a veteran spokesperson for the Janata Dal (United) [JD(U)], has resigned from his role following a series of public statements highlighting growing rifts between his party and its ally, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The JD(U) officially announced Tyagi’s resignation in a statement.

It is widely speculated that Tyagi’s frequent remarks, which often garnered national attention due to his experience and eloquence, were perceived as exacerbating tensions between JD(U) and BJP. His critical stance on several central government policies reportedly contributed to a strain in the alliance between the two parties.

New National Spokesperson Appointed

In the aftermath of Tyagi’s resignation, JD(U) president and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar appointed Rajiv Ranjan Prasad as the new national spokesperson. The party stated that Tyagi stepped down for “personal reasons,” though sources within the party suggest that his resignation was influenced by internal pressure related to his contentious comments.

KC Tyagi: A Prominent Voice for JD(U)

For years, Tyagi has been a key figure within JD(U), often acting as a liaison between the party and the national media. His resignation marks a significant shift in the party’s communication strategy, especially with the 2024 general elections on the horizon.

Tyagi’s departure underscores the underlying tensions between JD(U) and BJP, despite their continued alliance. The appointment of Rajiv Ranjan Prasad is expected to bring a fresh approach to JD(U)’s public messaging, while Tyagi’s exit may indicate a more cautious tone in the party’s future interactions with its principal political partner.
