Anand Mahindra Praises Kamala Harris

Ahead of the U.S. Presidential election in November, Anand Mahindra, Chairman of the Mahindra Group, praised U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris and her speech as she accepted her party’s nomination at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. Harris is the second woman to be nominated by the Democratic Party, following former First Lady Hillary Clinton.

Mahindra shared a photograph from The New York Times taken at Harris’s Chicago event, calling it an “amazing photograph” that captures the essence of Harris’s campaign—Hope, Aspiration, and Dreams. The image features a young girl looking up at Harris, symbolizing inspiration.

Mahindra remarked that the 75 days remaining until the election feel like an eternity in the context of a political campaign, noting the race is tight and the outcome uncertain. He highlighted that what we are witnessing is a remarkable transformation of perception and image in just a month—a phenomenon that will be studied and analyzed by psychologists, academics, and strategists for years, regardless of whether Harris wins or loses.

Reflecting on Harris’s acceptance speech in Chicago, Mahindra described it as a “tour de force,” showcasing her strength, skill, and ingenuity in terms of optics, content, and delivery. He emphasized that a powerful speech requires a clear, defining goal, which Harris achieved by both reiterating and boldly redefining the American Dream.

Mahindra encouraged students of public speaking and communication to watch Harris’s speech, describing it as a valuable learning experience. Discussing Harris’s unexpected rise to the top of the Democratic ticket following President Joe Biden’s decision to exit the race in July, Harris, 59, remarked, “America, the path that led me here in recent weeks was no doubt unexpected. But I’m no stranger to unlikely journeys.”
